Kenneth John Boyles behind bars
We wrote about Kenneth John Boyles when he was wearing his motorcycle vest in Clarksburg, West Virginia more than four years ago. He claimed to be a Desert Storm veteran and a special forces soldier.
He was indicted late last year for defrauding the VA out of $224,000 of benefits between 2008 and 2017. He was sentenced last week, according to WAJR;
Kenneth Boyles, 52, of Clarksburg pleaded guilty to the charge of health care fraud in January. He admitted to falsely reporting symptoms related to his service in the U.S. Army Reserves to the Veterans Health Administration in order to fraudulently collect more than $224,000 in benefits.
The crime occurred between 2008 and 2017 in Harrison County.
Boyles will pay back $244,320.07 in restitution and serve six months in prison.

Too bad Robert Livingston did not live in WV as opposed to Minnesota. The irony is that Boyles actually served.
This case as well as other VA Fraud cases and Mugshots.com all have something in common: the love of money.
I’m sure he has that $244K just sitting around. He’ll pay it back – yeah, right. Not until we re-institute debtors prisons.

How in the blue blazes can someone rack up $244,320? I don’t think I could hit that number in 30 years let alone 9.
Over nine years of fraud, that comes to just under $25,000 per annum. Not unreasonable depending on the benefits he received.
He likely conned the VA into paying him a VA disability pension based on fake PTSD. The VA is so clueless, they are paying PTSD claims for service in the Viet of the Nam for guys that never set foot there or never saw combat if they did serve there. So, color me not surprised. The max VA pension is over $3K per month for 100% disability.
Also, the likelihood that the gov’t will collect a substantial portion of that restitution judgment, if any, is slim and none.
Heck, I racked up $76K in one day after an emergency room visit and minor heart procedure (stents). Of course that was in a civilian hospital, not a VA hospital.
Don’t forget the value of the medical care he conned the VA into providing due to his lies and bogus symptoms. Medical care ain’t exactly cheap, and care provided by the VA is no exception.
The recipient doesn’t pay for it (with the exception of copayments) – but Uncle Sam does.
I like this story. I hope it’s well publicized. When one claims any sort of disability for compensation and he’s lying, that’s a crime. It’s called fraud.
I say that for what may be obvious reasons. If not, let me know. What I don’t like about this story is the amount of fraudulently obtained funds. It allows other liars to rationalize, to say, ‘Hell, I’m only pulling $800 a month, no way near this guy. Yeah, it’s still a crime.
Fraud it may be, but actually he’s stealing from some deserving Vet, be it meds, care, or dollars.
I hate thieves.

Since he only got six months, he will likely serve it in some half-way house like the one Dinesh DeSouza served his less than one year sentence. He will never go to a hardcore federal pound-him-in-the-ass lock-up. The worst that could happen to him is he is sent to that prison camp next to the Ranger Camp at Field #7 near Eglin AFB, in Floriduh, and that is unlikely.

i spent just over 3 years in the WTU at ft benning fighting to stay in. once things started to draw down it went from legit combat injuries to “i fell off a 5 ton one time in iraq and now 5 years later i got the PTSD, let me tell you how bad it is”. by oct of 2012 i stopped fighting to stay in is because i would have ended up in the brig if i didn’t get discharged or move back to the line. so many people i wanted to punch in the throat….
I retired in 2013. It was bad. Guys I had known for decades were trying to convince me to make stuff up. I was ashamed for them. Sure I got issues but stealing isnt one of them.

In order to get any serious prison time in the federal system one has to rob a bank, deal drugs, or go all Bernie Madoff on hundreds or thousands of people. Most white collar crime other than tax fraud will get the defendant incarceration in a low security facility or a half-way house night-time only lock-up. For example, I had a case involving a bank VP who was convicted of multiple counts of bank fraud on his own bank. He served a couple of years at the federal pound outside Vandenberg AFB. He stayed in a barracks outside the prison walls, while the bank robbers and other violent federal felons were in cell blocks inside the walls. He said it more like being in the Army than being in prison.
Look at that smiling fool, all happy that he’s scamming the government and impressing those who are easily impressed. Yeah, he’ll make repayment. He’ll be put on the $50 a month plan with the option to miss up to six payments per year due to circumstances. Those circumstances would be inability to get a job b/c his character will be trashed on Google, as it should be. He’s the moral equivalent of pond scum. I have higher regard for a bank robber who robbed a bank of $244K. Fuck him.
Now that this dog is in the pound, he can finally enjoy licking his one nut. Just sayin’.
Now that he has a plastic nut, it will come in handy with a plastic inflatable doll he surely uses. She won’t challenge him about anything. Maybe he can even get a plastic tongue out of the V A.
