Chicago wants UN peacekeepers
Remember when President Trump was talking about sending Federal troops to quell the violence in Chicago and the uproar that caused? Well, according to Chicago Fox 32, Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin was in New York this week to discuss with United Nations officials a possibility that the UN could mount a peacekeeping mission in the City of Big Shoulders.
Boykin met with the U.N.’s assistant secretary-general for peace-building support.
He calls the violence in Chicago a, “quiet genocide” in the city’s black community and he appealed to the U.N. because it’s trained in keeping the peace.
There is no word on exactly what they’ll be doing when they get to the city.

Boykin said Chicago must “utilize every avenue” available to protect its people from gun violence, possibly including U.N. peacekeepers.
“They’ve been able to help in places like Africa and abroad, where they’ve sent troops in and sent forces in to help protect minority and vulnerable populations, and so quite frankly I think the same can be said for here in Chicago,” Boykin said. “I’m talking about physical security. I’m also talking about maybe suggestions for what we can do in Chicago to help protect our minority populations. We’re being, again, decimated by the violence that we see here in Chicago. I mean this is really a genocide, and we have to do something to stop it.”
Somehow, troops from the third world are more palatable to Chicago leadership than Americans.
“I know that the mayor may tout the fact that the number of people being shot is down, and the number of people being killed is down, but let me tell you, we’ve had over 600 people killed by gun violence already this year alone. That is a huge number,” Boykin said.
Through the end of November, Chicago has had at least 620 homicides. While down significantly from last year, when there were more than 720 homicides through November, that’s still a significant increase from most of the past 15 years.
Yeah, just wait until there are a bunch of blue helmets roaming the streets.

UN troops are not ‘The UN’; troops deployed under a UN mandate are still under the National Command Authority of the contributing nation. They also reflect the values of those nations.
You get what you pay for- US troops committed to UN missions have done pretty well, it’s not surprising that troops from a third world nation with human right issues would cause problems.
Many nations have professional UN Armies, meaning that their national security budget is paid in whole or part by money for UN missions.

First, how is making such overtures to a foreign power (which the U.N. is, for all intents and purposes, even if not a particularly powerful one) to have foreign troops deployed in any operational capacity on US soil without the expressed permission and cooperation of the constitutional government not a major federal felony, possibly even treason? After all, this slapdick is trying to invite a foreign military invasion.
Second, he’s clearly never talked to anyone the UN ever “helped.” Folks from the Balkans, Haiti, and a dozen shitholes in Africa have some things to say about that, none of it pleasant. The UN peacekeeping force in Somalia, for example, consisted mainly of Pakistanis and Malaysians who both conducted human trafficking and sex slavery of locals when they weren’t too busy shooting at eachother. This despite the fact that they both came from islamic countries and were deployed to an islamic country and thus hypothetically should have been bound by religious solidarity and islamic laws regarding charity.

This is a foolish proposal on many levels.
For one, it arguably illegal under the Logan Act. If we are going to dredge that up for Our Man Flynn, we should do the same here.
Also, although knucklehead is negotiating on behalf of the city and county, his proposal assumes the US would agree to the deployment.
And that’s where this man really looks foolish. There is simply no way the federal and state governments would agree to UN troops in the US.
I suppose he may have done this to grandstand, but I think that makes him look like an idiot. He is essentially saying that the people of Chicago have such deep racial or political divisions that civil authority cannot keep the peace.
In other words, this isn’t a crime problem, it’s an ethnic conflict. In that most of the killers and victims are from the same group, it makes one wonder how you would separate a group from itself?
What would the UN deployment look like on the ground? A blue helmet on every corner? Random checkpoints? Warrantless searches and seizures?
Finally, it demonstrates tat this man does not understand how the federal government and the UN work, not to mention his own local government and the people he ostensibly leads. It’s kind of scary that we continuously elect people who failed Civics 101.
