Clifford Currie, the man who set Army Nurse Katie Blanchard on fire, has been sentenced to 20 years.

| November 5, 2017

In August we reported on the horrific case of Army nurse Katie Blanchard who was attacked by Clifford Currie and set ablaze with gasoline.   This past week the Kansas City Star reports that Currie was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of assault with the intent to kill.

According to court documents and trial testimony, Blanchard was in her office when Currie doused her with gasoline and ignited it with a match.

Currie also tried to attack her with a razor and a pair of scissors. He also tried to stomp on her neck before other employees were able to intervene and subdue him.

Lt. Blanchard had filed numerous reports through her command about her concerns that Currie was dangerous.  It seems that the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) does not have much to say about the incident.  However, it has been widely reported that Audrey Harris,  who was President of the Unions Local 738 at the time,  made statements to several people that Lt. Blanchard got what she deserved.

From what Google Fu I have conducted, it appears Audrey Harris still is the President of Local 738.  I can’t seem to find anything online about her being disciplined or the AFGE denying that one of their Local Presidents condoned setting an active duty  Army Officer on fire.  Surely, The American Federation of Government Employees must be outraged that something like that was reported about one of their Presidents.  If it is indeed true, maybe they have taken some kind of disciplinary action with Ms Harris that they are keeping very, very quiet.

I wouldn’t want to upset anyone with the AFL-CIO over a little thing like people being set on fire.  I am sure they have much more important things to worry about.  The AFGE must be too overwhelmed  trying to carry out their mission to respond.

AFGE takes seriously its responsibility to help provide good government services while ensuring that government workers are treated fairly and with dignity. The union supports a meaningful transformation of the federal workplace to improve the way services and benefits are delivered to the American public.

Ahh, what the hell…you can read all about the AFGE, AFL-CIO and some other Alphabet Soup organizations missions HERE.  I hope National President J. David Cox  doesn’t get his panties in a bind over any of this.   It might appear to Cox that I am being a Richard but between us Davids…I just don’t give a damn.  Harris might need Cox, but I just don’t swing that way.

Lt. Blanchard has my utmost respect and best regards.

Clifford Currie can rot in hell for all I care.

Well, at least he is going to jail. I work as a contractor for the gubmint. GS workers get away with stuff that would get them fired in the corporate world. Glad this stain on the world can rot in jail. I know how long it takes to heal from burns, all our prayers are with Lt. Blanchard.

Cobrakai99

His job is probably waiting for his release from prison, with the help of th AFGE.

Ret_25X

public employee unions are to public service what dysentery is to public health.

The reason they love to “represent” this kind of turd is because they own them completely. No amount of extortion…errr…dues will be denied them by a person wholly dependent upon the union for any employment at all.

desert

The Prez of this “disUnion” said she got what she deserved? That bitch deserves the 20 years, the evil son of a bitch that did it should be hung, there is no place in civilized society for an evil bastard like that! imho

Haltom

You’re right as long as he keep his dues up.

Ret_25X

doesn’t matter whether he does or does not. He is part of the crowd and is very valuable at bargaining time as headcount.

Ctitic

I wonder what she did to get set on fire..

3/10/MED/b

The fact that you could even conceive such a question renders you an asshole in the greatest degree.

Animal

If you’re just trying to get a reaction you’re wasting your time here. If you’re serious then you should be set on fire. Nobody but the most vile deserve that fate and you just may be in that category.

SFC D

The world regrets your birth.

Combat Historian

Hopefully somebody will set this scumbag on fire in prison; turnabout is fair play…

Tom Huxton

Run him through the garbage grinder. Fake his escape and watch the action. He will be famous like Hoffa.

That beard is a tinder box for sure.

I would honestly be able to, and take pleasure in, gutingt this demon alive if allowed to.

AMEN!

I’m sure that one of the lifers in the pen would be happy to expedite Currie’s trip down to the hot place in exchange for a carton of Lucky Strikes…

Not long enough, Katie Blanchard got a life sentence, this drizzle that should have run down his momma’s leg, should have gotten life, too.
Prayers for her.

Ex-PH2

If LT Blanchard has copies of the reports she filed, and documented what Harris said, then she can and should sue the pants off Harris under 1964 Civil Rights Act, Title VII.

If Harris is this prejudiced against white people, which is rather obvious in my view, she needs to be dismissed, period.

Just glad to be out of the work place now and don’t have to be worried about these things.

LT Blanchard did not deserve this at all. I can only give her the emotional support that she needs.

And yeah, currie can rot in the depths of Hell for eternity.

Ret_25X

Let’s add to that. What sanctions have been levied against the “leaders” said reports when to?

They need to be joining the fire bug in jail

Ret_25X

geebus…*went not “when”

Thunderstixx

I just wonder if he stays on the gubmint payroll while he’s in the pokie???
I’m certain that the AFGE will be fighting to keep him on the payroll.
And the good Lt should be eligible for a huge lawsuit against the AFGE and the rep in person while she’s at it.
Stupid unions have way too much power. Shit like this is why we now have President Trump.

Airdale (AW) USN ret.

We got Trump because of idiots voted for him!!

A Proud Infidel®™

And I’m PROUD to say I voted for him, DON’T BLAME the Russians, BLAME ME and all the rest of us Red State Americans who made the right choice, did you REALLY want Das Hildebeast #666 as POTUS?

11B-Mailclerk

Yup. We could have had that utterly-corrupt self-dealing russian-bought-and-owned vengence-monkey HRC.

The dippies had a chance with Bernie. But your party sold its soul and your vote to the Arkansas trailer-trash hoodlem.

Way to go Donkeys!

To TAH Navy Personnel:

Question.

What is an “Airdale” in the US Navy?

Thank You.

Ex-PH2

An ‘Airedale’ is someone working in the aviation-related ratings, such as Aviation Ordinance, Aviation Electrician, Air Controller, Aviation Storekeeper, Photographers Mate, Aerographers Mate, etc.

AnotherPat

Thank You, Ex.

Was wondering if the term was suppose to be “Airedale” and not “Airdale”. Thank you for the correction and the info.

Does this mean you were also an Airedale since you were a Photographers Mate?

Redacted1775

It literally takes setting someone on fire to get rid of a civilian employee. It’s damn near impossible otherwise.

E-6 type, 1 ea

If you don’t follow her on facebook, you should. She posted that she is going to actively go after all responsible parties, and rightly so. This guy should have been gone a long, long time ago.

Commissioner Wretched

I agree, and have just started following her on Facebook. I believe she was promoted on 2 Nov (or was supposed to have been) …

She is a shining example of the “you will not defeat me” mentality we all should have when confronted by pure evil. This alleged “man” who burned and tried to kill her should rot under the penitentiary. As for the union leaders who protected him (including the bitch who said Lt. Blanchard “got what she deserved”), may Hell hold special heated rooms for them.

MK75Gunner

Since my retirement I’ve been employed by DHS as a civilian and as such we are all “represented” by AFGE. The difference being that you may choose not to be a dues paying member, which I did. In my region we have 4 other guys that I work with. Interestingly enough the 2 of us that are non dues paying members seem to be doing the lions share of the work, and the 2 big union proponents and paying members are the 2 biggest sacks of shit you’ve ever met. Every single thing that they don’t like or want to do is automatically grounds for them to file a grievance through the union. Fuck the AFGE and all the useless fucks they protect on a regular basis. And especially fuck this giant sack of shit, Currie.

just some feller

I’m a GS-blankety-blank and am not a member of our version of AFGE in any way, shape, or form.

Ret_25X

not only am I not a member of an SEIU or AFL affiliate, my position is not even eligible for “collective bargaining”

I like it that way.

QMC

Same here with my agency. Don’t pay any dues for the AFGE, and fuck this POS.

MK75Gunner

Are you sure your agency isn’t represented? AFGE has 700k members out of 1.7 million fed employees. More than one-half of AFGE’s members are consolidated into agency-wide bargaining units. Agencies with the highest concentration of union membership include the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Social Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Justice. You may not be a dues paying member but if you’re in any of the aforementioned agencies don’t be surprised by the fact that they represent your GS-13 and below personnel. Like I said, even though I am not a dues paying member, our agency within DHS is represented by AFGE. And they are the worst and protect the worst.

just some feller

Oh yeah, they “represent” all civil servants — but I am not a member nor do I pay dues. I delete all emails encouraging me to join.

JSFeller

MK75Gunner

I’m with you. I’ve been approached multiple times by other employees that try and get me to be a dues paying member and every time I tell ’em the same thing, I don’t need union protection because I do my job and I do it right and I don’t break the law. Unfortunately the guys I’ve seen on the job that are union cheerleaders always seem to be the worst workers and the biggest complainers.

QMC

I think I’m represented, just don’t pay dues like yourself. Without outing myself too much, I’m with a non-DOD agency, but not DHS.

NHSparky

Keep reminding me why unions, and especially government unions, are more useless with each passing day.

Cris

“Every single thing that they don’t like or want to do is automatically grounds for them to file a grievance through the union.”

I concur. I have experienced the same time of BS with these union folks. It seems they try to find anything in writing that can excuse them from doing their job. Hell, if I only did what my job description said, I’d have nothing to do for the other 6 hours.

Federal and state laws have replaced a lot of what the unions were organized for back in the early days. It seems now their only function is to inflate wages and stifle production.

Imagine how much work would be accomplished if they weren’t consumed playing “Sea Lawyers”.

A Proud Infidel®™

Maybe it’s way past time for the AFGE to be decertified and done away with like Ronald Reagan did with the Air Traffic Controllers Union, that might make taking out the trash much easier!

rgr769

The only positive about his conviction is that he was convicted in federal court. That means he will have to serve at least 15 years of his 20 year sentence. For many of us, a quick trip to the gallows would have been a more fitting result. Too bad the nurse will be unable to successfully sue the AFGE.

AnotherPat

rgr769: Wonder when he will start serving his sentence and where he will be incarcerated.

Can’t find him in any databases.

Don’t know if his age (55) has to do with his 15-20 year sentence. Was surprised when I read the years: thought it would be more.

Bob

Yea, I’d like to know where this coward is serving his sentence. I want to send him a box of shut.

HMC Ret

I’ve worked with patients who were 90% + burned and, IMO, there is no worse injury. Blessings to you, LT. And I hope the perp and union can rot side-by-side. The LT suffered b/c she brought a no-load’s work ethic to the management of a no-load union. JMHO. Having worked 11+ years for the VA before throwing in the towel, I can attest to the mentality of union leadership and much of the membership. If that offends some of you, tough.

USAFRetired

Taking a page from the liberal playbook about not letting a “crisis” go to waste. Perhaps we should look at Ms Harris timecard for the preceding couple of years pre and post crime.
I wonder how much of her time was charged to “official time” where the Govt pays her salary to conduct Union Business. If its a sizable enough chunk, lets use this event as a catalyst to eliminate this drain on the taxpayers.

Ozzie

I guess this is why Franklin D. Roosevelt was against allowing government workers to unionize.

AnotherPat

“There’s Strong. And then there’s Army Strong.”

That is LT Katie Blanchard.

Salute.

“Cowards die many times before their deaths; the Valiant never taste of death but once”

“Better it were not to live than to live a Coward.”

Coward. That is Clifford Currie.

May God keep and protect this poor woman and may that piece of shit rot in hell forever!

One more example of why I have never joined the union in my 15 years of GS work.

Tee

I can understand where you are coming from.

They vary from place-to-place (as far as effectiveness and corruption).

There are times when the Union stops an innocent employee from being wrongfully terminated but unfortunately, it can be a train to which dirtbag employees hitch their wagon, to eventually ride away from punishment they very well deserve.

In this case, if the Union President really made that comment–they should have been made to resign, effective immediately. That is DISGUSTING–and I would have brought civil action for damages against the local Union as well for contributing.

This happened when I still lived in Kansas (working at another installation); the only reason I believe I even found out about it is because someone working in the same facility where LT Blanchard was burned told me about it.

I was truly disturbed that so few people in the Army community even heard of it. Even when I mention what happened today, I get blank stares from people who ‘can’t believe something like this would happen on post’…

The Army used to have a program called ‘Violence in the Workplace’; it described what it was, how one should react to it and (strangely enough) what to do if it occurred. This man showed SO many warning signs that he was capable of such an act–and more importantly, LT Blanchard made her Chain of Command aware of it as well–but nothing was done. That’s the part that personally hurts me the most.

I have worked with people (yes, fellow GS employees) who thought yelling at the top of their lungs and throwing things at work was the best way to voice their displeasure. Guess what–supervisor’s consent or no, I call the MPs. I have been run through the ringer over it too, but I don’t care. I want a WRITTEN HISTORY of their explosive behavior so if/when something like this happens the ‘powers that be’ won’t be able to feign ignorance.

Violent outbursts is not someone having a ‘bad day’; they are clear signs that something is not right, and the American taxpayers dollars should not go towards paying such people. It has to end somewhere.

JimV

You should see some of the GSes in the VA system. Unbelievable.
