Elizabeth Honig sentenced

| October 25, 2017

Earlier this year, we talked about Elizabeth Honig who admitted in court that she managed to rip off the VA to the tune of about $2.8 million when she enrolled veteran students in her school, despite the fact most of them weren’t eligible to study at the Computer Insight Learning Center.

Well, according to NJ.com, she was sentenced this week;

The owner of a computer training school program in Monmouth County was sentenced Monday to two years in prison for stealing $2.8 million from a federally funded program for veterans.

Elizabeth Honig, 52, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, previously pleaded guilty to theft of government funds.

Honig was also ordered to pay $2,831,455 in restitution, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey said Monday. She will be subject to three years of supervised released after completing her prison stint.

I’ll be over here holding my breath until she coughs up the 3 million bucks.

Two years for swiping $3 million? Yeah, some sentence and I wonder if she’ll pay even a dime of it back? I hope they use the IRS to collect it!

Does the VA have ANY quality control?

I can’t even sign up an extra upgrade to my phone/tv package because of some small print…

Amazing…I get 10% for hearing loss and tinnitis when others seem to be getting 20% just for tinnitis and this bitch walks off with almost 3 million?

DataDawgDVX

I guess she’ll have to become a madam in a brothel and make sure she sells a good service in order to pay off those millions.

ChipNASA

I wouldn’t give a plug nickle to just hate fuck her.
/I’ll leave that to IDC SARC

Old Trooper

Yeah. I was gonna say that IDC SARC would hit that!

IDC SARC

Yes, yes I would.

ChipNASA

I bet that C**T isn’t smiling now, but she probably is, on the inside because I don’t think the Government will see dime one.

Graybeard

I wonder if they can seize all of her assets to help repayment?

Texas protects ones’ homestead from all but nonpayment of property tax or failure to pay the mortgage.

Seizing all of her property ought to really take the smile off her face.

See my comment about them siccing the IRS on her, I hope they do!

Graybeard

I’d not had that sink in, API. That would ensure that she gets reminded of her stupidity at least once a year for the rest of her life.

Hope she and any partner filed jointly.

It depends, I had an early lesson in asset protection from a true criminal once upon a time…

When his business went belly up like a dead fish in the Koi pond it was discovered he owned nothing….not one thing…he paid himself $10k a week from his company’s payroll but didn’t even own a car….lived in a house owned by his mom, drove his nephew’s car, etc…etc…

He earned 500k a year for 20 years before he rolled over and went under….had no money in the bank either…there was nothing of a personal nature to be found.

The IRS can seize his tax returns to this day, but his new business only pays him minimum wage….imagine that…still drives a brand new six figure automobile, still has a 12,000 square foot home..still has hand tailored clothing…

I realize it’s not the same as stealing from the VA for tuition reimbursements, but he stole from other businesses who were stupid enough to extend credit…none of them were made whole.

Hmmm… Houstonian here with homesteaded property. Federal judgement vs. Homestead Law… any lawyers around? (I don’t have to worry about Bernasty answering, because he’s hanging at the BTJT Deli!)

Graybeard

And Hondo’s on the road.

I’m no lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, however it is my understanding that a Federal judgment would not be impeded by a State law. Federal law is, as a rule, held to supersede State law.

Some may take a chance of non-enforcement of a law that a state finds onerous, especially if the Federal position is unpopular. That, however, is a risk I would not be willing to take.

David

ditto on the Houstonian with homesteaded house… I am pretty sure the Federal court order would be considered like a Federal tax lien and supersede the Texas homeowner exemption. Would not want to bet the house either way, though.

Graybeard

I see what you did there.

Wilted Willy

I will be surprised if the government ever gets back a dime from this bitch! Why can’t I get them to go after my thieving brother and arrest him? They continue to pay him his 3K a month for the PTSD false claim. Nobody ever cares about that??

OldSoldier54

The government does nothing well.

I am convinced that, because nobody ever appears to get fired, irregardless of incompetence or lack of performance, this is the true reason why.

Fyrfighter

I’ll disagree a but Old Soldier,
1. The govt is pretty good at the military thing, kicking the crap out of the bad guys (though politicians getting in the way have mucked it up more than once)
2. Almost without exception, the civilian side of the govt EXCELS at providing a safe haven for the type of slackers / scum you reference above…Not that that’s a good thing, just that they’re good at it..

This sounds like a two-way street to me. Yeah, she was guilty for taking G-money for false tuition, but what about all the jackasses who were using her to get GI Bill money?
