Thursday morning feel good stories

From Chicago, Illinois;

About 8 p.m., a 22-year-old man and two other people were in the rear of a building in the 1500 block of West 71st Street when they were approached by a 23-year-old man and another person, according to Chicago Police. The older man and his accomplice tried to rob the group, and shots were fired.

The 23-year-old alleged suspect, identified as Robert Ward, was shot on the left side of his body, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Ward was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 8:41 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. He lived on the same block where the shooting happened.

The 22-year-old victim of the robbery attempt was shot in the leg and was also taken to Christ, where his condition has stabilized, police said.

From Middleton, Ohio;

The man told police he was sleeping at 8:15 a.m. today when he heard someone banging on the door of his apartment in the 100 block of Crawford Street, according to the police report.

He grabbed his gun and walked to his front door where he saw a man looking through the window of his door. He told the intruder that if he didn’t leave, he would be shot, according to the report.

The intruder then left and got into a car that belonged to the man in the apartment. The man left his apartment, walked to his car and pointed his gun at the man in his car.

The man left the vehicle and ran into the apartment, the report said. That’s when the man turned and fired one shot, missing the intruder, the report said.

Both men were transported to the police department for questioning.

A story from Columbus, Ohio about Khomary Rand and his pal Nathaniel Easley who forced their way into a home on April 6, 2016 with their firearms. Someone in the home shot Mr Easley twice in the chest. He stumbled outside and then collapsed, DOT (dead over there).

Mr Rand was arrested soon afterward while fleeing the scene. The other day, Mr Rand was sentenced to six years for the felony murder of Mr Easley – they committed a felony and Mr Easley was killed as a result, so Mr Rand was charged with his murder. Rand’s sentence will be served concurrently with his five year sentence for felonious assault, because of a deal he struck with prosecutor, a deal that kind of defeats the purpose for the felony murder laws.

No one in the home admitted to firing the gun that they used to kill Easely.

In Orlando, Florida;

Orlando police said they were called to the store and found a 21-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.

Police said a man inside the store told officers that the shooting victim tried to rob him, but he took the man’s gun and shot him with it.

Officers, however, said they have received conflicting stories about what happened.

The shooting victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition. His name has not been released.
