The Blues
The city of Chefchaouen, in northwest Morocco, features many buildings painted blue. According to legend, the practice of blue buildings dates back to the 15th century, when Jews fled the Spanish Inquisition and settled in Chefchaouen. In the Jewish faith, blue reminds worshippers of the sky, and therefore, God.
If you’ve been wondering why you haven’t heard from Dallas Wittgenfeld in recent days, it seems that he was briefly a guest of the State of Maryland, but it appears that he bonded out so he should be back at his antics soon. We haven’t located his mugshot from his most recent vacation, so if you find it, I’d love to have a copy.

Fist!
This made me laugh my ass off.
you don’t wanna know about the first fisting injury I ever treated…the horror
You mean there’s more than one???
Fucking skimmers. And Marines.
Yeah, the kink-related injuries are always memorable. I’ve run more than a few calls in which my efforts to determine the mechanism of injury left me begging the Heavens for brain bleach. Normally, you ask, “What happened?” but these ones elicit more of a “Jesus H. Christ, how the fuck did you…”
And then there’s the occasional structure fire where, in the course of trying to salvage as much property as possible for the owner, you come across stuff you really didn’t want to know about. There’s been a few times where I looked at the rest of my crew and just said, “Let’s never again speak of this.”
My favorite was the officer off the Indy in Yokosuka… he came out of the shower and “accidentally” sat on a racquetball.
Even though this is an Urban legend, it’s still a funny listen to.
yeah yeah…I knew that would come up.
I have to admit, this is one of my favorite GIFs to post when it’s appropriate.

Bwahahahahahahaha!
ChipNASA – should have posted a trigger warning for a “special someone” that is/was a member of the intel community.
Which one? The former MI guy or the pogey bait?
Fist on the List!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
I have no idea why this amuses me so BUT, from now on, my challenge in the WOT is to be the “First” to declare “FIST!”..and sit here giggling my ass off like a 12 year old girl.
It’s all IDC SARC’s fault.
“It’s all IDC SARC’s fault”
I get that a lot.
lololololol
First!
Your tax dollars at work. 🙂
Isn’t that an oxymoron?
lol…actually I was kidding. I stayed home today….with pay. Govvie computer usually isn’t fast enough to make me competitive in the WOT
I was going to cut grass but it’s been raining in buckets.
Sensei, since it is raining, when you have time, please share about the tradition of SLUG (still hanging my head in shame). Thanx.
It’s hard to explain and some facets I simply cannot discuss under threat of harsh penalties.
The Navy and Sailors in general have many euphemisms and traditions.
The slug signifies transition from occupying the non-rate and petty officer ranks to the Chief’s community. Slithering, primitive, transitioning to a higher purpose.
SLUG as an acronym is said to mean Selectees Learning Under Guidance, but the term actually predates that.
Every year there is a time of about 2 months between the Chief’s selection list coming out and the entire Navy advancing the new Chiefs in September.
Between selection and advancement there is the period of initiation (a term temporarily lost now reinstated) in which the slugs must learn to work through events/tasks by themselves and with their fellow selectees.
They will seek out Honorable Chiefs to get their signatures in their charge books and gain their acquaintance and wisdom.
There is a final night of camaraderie and a bit of pageantry which as an Honorable Chief I cannot further explain, but it is memorable and unique and something no Chief ever forgets.
In that final celebration is there a performance of that memorable ritual know as “the Dance of the Flaming Assholes?”
that’s east coast..dance of the sugarplum faeries on the west coast
“The Dance of The Flaming Assholes” seems to be a British Army tradition as well.
No shit, there I was, my 31st birthday at the Neureut Club, Neureut Kaserne. 72nd Signal Battalion had a Brit signal unit as a partner in crime, which involved very little signal and much drinking. My “gift” on my birthday was the aforementioned “dance”.
The dance consisted of CPL Huxtable streaking into the club, nekkid except running shoes. A long plume of toilet paper trailing from his ass, the end which was flaming. CPL Hux proceeded to run 1 lap around the dance floor and back outside.
There were no survivors
When I first observed this extraordary social event, it was a competition between two drunk SF SGM’s in the UK during Opn. Flintlock IV. As they danced around the pub with their pants around their ankles, the winner was determined by the man to last remove the flaming paper napkin from his “anuse.”
I’m no Chief, but I did do that dance once or twice at the Horse AND Cow Bar.
Any submariner will be happy to explain it given enough libations.
Prop Blast?
Or don’t they do that anymore?
I had way too many drinks from the 503rd Regimental Prop Blast helmet at our Dining In wayyyy back in 1981.
NOW I understand…it does indeed sound sacred..honorable..thanx for spelling out SLUG.Now I also see why Lam will never be worthy of bring acknowledged as a SLUG.
I thought they just got drunk and dumped buckets of water on each other. But maybe that was the old Navy from Days of Yore… in the Olden Times.
water…yeah, that’s the ticket….water
good clean fun
A fistful of dollars?
Second. Just walked back in the door.
4th
My highest yet!
3rd actually
Even better
Top ten
Snuck that WOT right by us. I’ll claim Top Ten.
Yeah, WAY early on a Holiday Weekend.
12:06?
Damn
Dullass is now gainfully employed restaurant equipment. At least I think so, since he carries around a briefcase with his stool samples.
Bernath couldn’t even keep a job as a TSA hack, who else would even think of hiring him? DuLlAsS, he’s like the wino in front off a bus station always sitting there talking to himself.
Arrrrrrggg!
Well I have something for everything.
Damn, that was early and I wasn’t even abusing my F-5 key yet!!! Maybe top 10? Have a great 4TH of July weekend guys!!!
I’m angry because I only got to hit my F5 key once. That wasn’t even enough to get it up to flaccid.
I’m sure if you go to your doctor, he/she can give you a “little blue pill” to fix the problem…
🙂
That’s going to make my F4 and F6 keys very uncomfortable, like a super fat guy trying to wedge himself in the middle seat on an airliner.
Great news about Dullass. What about his mentor?
What about Joe Cryer?
Everytime he farts it’s a cell block love call.
LOL!!!!!
Dunno if this link will work, but here goes:
http://casesearch.courts.state.md.us/casesearch/inquiryDetail.jis?caseId=D021CR17000212&loc=6&detailLoc=ODYCRIM
If I interpret that correctly, looks like his case may have been disposed of via some type of “Other Plea”. Not sure what that means.
It looks like the case is closed (# D-021-CR-17-000212) – shows the disposition as “Nolle Prosequi” on both charges. Shows a disposition date of 6/28/17.
I hope I’m reading that correctly…
Fucking Maryland pussies.
Don had a nice after action report of the proceedings on his site.
LOngDonGSlurPer41 was allowed to bond out so he can get an attorney. Just kicking the can down the road.
Cryer did bring an attorney, who basically told him to pound sand as soon as the Judge’s Decision was read, and went over and talked to Don and told him he was a fan.
“Nolle Prosequi” is far from not guilty or dropping charges.
If Cryer is arrested for anything else the charges will be bought up again.
“Cryer did bring an attorney, who basically told him to pound sand as soon as the Judge’s Decision was read, and went over and talked to Don and told him he was a fan.”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…
No, wait….
He -paid- for that burn.
Yowza!
Top 20, anyway.
Just remember kids, it’s not possible to freedom too hard.
Oh, and DRG? Fuck you. Fuck you long, hard, and deep. Enjoy your time in jail, fuckers.
“Top 20, anyway.”
At my age I am just grateful to be able to show up at all.
Freedom Boner!
You people are all sick bastards.
Channeling our newest troll, PH-2?
This place wouldn’t be half as charming without it’s chew toys.
No one on Team TAH has actually ever been in combat, or seen any ‘real violence’.
Everyone knows that.
And, according to the other troll, some of us here aren’t even vets…
Well, since I fit in that category, that particular troll has a point.
But I just post here, I’m not a poser or a writer for TAH.
And some are lizard people according EX-seal and former wrestlers.
Correction:
There! I fixed it for you.
Hmmmmmm …..apparently I lost my [strikethrough] mojo!
“Ex-seal” should have been stricken-through.
But you love us, nonetheless.
And we, you.
It’s fate.
Just expressing my inner warrior girl.
Well, OK, but just remember, you’d better not think about advocating for any more mindless ‘violence’ anywhere in here…
Oh, so we can advocate mindful violence and the intelligence won’t be triggered?
Mindless violence – wouldn’t that be Transformers? Or The Alien?
Mindful…mindless….meh
im the guy with the gun
Bruce Campbell… hubba-hubba!
Ex-PH2,
If you haven’t already. you really need to see ” Bubba Hotep”.
IMHO Bruce’s greatest work.
And freakin’ hilarious!
Aren’t ye a wee bit late in figuring that out, lass? (smile)
Still training behind me, Hondo? 🙂
Provisional Proxy First….
Your tax dollars at work: I am not First again – because I was in another meeting.
But: vacay coming up!
The weather is confusing. It’s 80-something one day, then 60s for two or three after that. I don’t know whether to ventilate my winter wear or store it.
Total solar eclipse will be Aug. 21. See Sky & Telescope for information about your area: http://www.skyandtelescope.com/total-solar-eclipse-august-2017/
Other stuff coming up.
I’ll take 80s and 60s any day of the week, since February in my neck of the sticks
All we have had here is 90s 100s 110s and now we have monsoon trying to kick-off
There is nothing like 110 with 50 percent humidity
BHWHAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!
supposed to be the highest low for the date here… felt like 88 at 7AM. Supposed to feel like 105 before the day is done due to humidity…. just love Houston. I figure we are like an outpost of Australia – our miserable season is May-September, but instead of cold causing us to avoid outdoors, it’s heat.
They try to compare us here in Tucson, Az to Alice Springs, Australia. I laughed at it when I saw it
They should compare them to us instead Lol..
I’ve driven through Texas many times the part from Dallas to Houston in the middle of summer was like sitting in a sunna
Talk about cutting the air with a knife Lol..
doing that stretch of road Sunday… I hate car AC but for once I’m gonna be glad to have it.
The Hou-DFW run is never fun. The more so for the constant construction along some portion of it. A few weekends ago they even had the entire freeway shut down while they removed a bridge north of Conroe.
I stepped out of the house at 0715 this morning and it was 80 feeling like 93, I believe.
But I mind the time the Mrs and I were driving to CO to meet our son after his AD was done. It was so hot between DFW & Amarillo that we the wind burned us even with the windows down at 70mph. (We didn’t have a/c in the car at the time.) I believe it was 110-115F there that year.
Was that 2011? I was living in A-town at the time and remember that summer WELL. Ironically, it hit 20 below the January just before that, and 2% relative humidity that spring.
Could be, Eden. It all is a blur, but 2011 seems right. He was in the Army’s 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team (2nd ID) which pulled out in 2010, and he got out some months later.
As I recall it was very early summer/late spring – the snow was still in the passes in CO. But it was astoundingly hot in that stretch of Texas.
GB, just for reference, there’s STILL snow in some of the passes here in CO…
Really? Try mid-90s F with 80+% relative humidity. Do anything physical, and soon the only non-soaking-wet clothing you’re wearing is the cuffs of your pants and the brim of your hat. And eventually the cuffs of your pants get soaked, too.
I’ll take 110 F and 50% humidity any day of the week over that.
Some friends of mine in tappahannock, va. Said that is what they were dealing with a few weeks ago. Talk about nasty and hell 😕😟
Try 110 with 5% humidity.
That’s better then 115 with 40 percent humidity
Any day of the week 😁
Been there, done that. More than once.
WAY preferable to mid 90s F with 70+% relative humidity.
I’ve lived in both. They are each their own special kind of hell.
So have I. I’ll take hot and dry in a heartbeat – especially if doing anything physical is involved.
Got a solar filter for my 8″ SCT and a NexImage CMOS camera for August 21st. Now if the weather holds out…
Fred Espenak has a lot of info at Nikon’s website about solar eclipse photography. He does not, however, have any info on how to make the weather behave.
http://www.nikonusa.com/en/learn-and-explore/a/tips-and-techniques/how-to-photograph-a-solar-eclipse.html
This company sells correct solar viewing glasses.

Present and Accounted for
IT’s FRIDAY
The chicken is in the pot.
— I say again —
The chicken is in the pot.
Screw the chicken. I want steak.
👍👍👍
Roger.
Grill it.
— I say again —
Grill it.
Getting kinky on us, Ex-PH2?
Nah. Just getting in touch with her “inner Sailor”. (smile)
No. I haven’t had a decent steak in donkey’s years. I have to stop whining and wait a bit on it. Chicken and ham are simply cheaper than beef.
Joey is driving a black 4WD pickup truck.
Keyturn in 3,2,1…
This just in: per the State Bar of California, Daniel A. Bernath IS STILL DISBARRED!
If anyone is interested, the reason why may be found here.
It also appears that yet another judge has decided to give DAB a well-deserved “kutomba wewe” shout-out – though this latter case also appears to be under appeal.
Yo, Danni-boi:
Too bad, so sad
Sucks to be you
Received your due
Courts said, “Screw You . . .
. . . and the horse you rode in on.”
(Note: linked image is possibly NSFW and also is not recommended around prudes, clergy, or children.)
Hope being a world-class jerk was all worth it, fella. Enjoy – especially that upcoming “all inclusive” yearlong vacation at that Virginia “Crossbar Hotel”. Along with that pending “quality time” in front of a judge in Kansas City.
Holy Shit now he is doing the crazy in KCMO
BHWHAHAHAHA !!!!!
My dad (USN) was stationed in Sidi Yahia in the early 70’s. I can still smell the place. Good times, at least for a kid.
I was just thinking, “Mais où sont les poseurs d’antan?”. It seems gone are the Heavy Chevy’s, the Round Rangers, and the like. The ones who would defend themselves without getting lawyers and lawers involved. The sock-puppeting legends in their own mind.
Honorary First yet again.
I use to self identify as FIRST
Then thank god I grew a pair of ball 😂
Now I self identify as 35th
BHWHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
Out of sight out of mind
😆😆😆
NOBODY on TAH has the number of self-awarded Honorary firsts that I do, so *BLEEEEAAAAHH!*
Please be considerate this weekend with your fireworks. Remember to invite a veteran to help you blow shit up.
KA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
I self identify/diagnose as having PTSD….you just made me shit my pants…be more considerate with your explosions this Fourth of July weekend…
Will this do?
Ah, yes . . . Ivy Mike.
As Zaphod Beeblebrox might have said at the time: “Best bang since the Big One!”
Those Boooooooms just remind me I still haven’t bought GOW4
B-b-b-b-b-b-b-uuuttt JONN, what about the Attention Whores that have 10 of these posted all over their property??
Not saying that PTSD is not a thing and certainly there are some folks that may have an issue or two on the week around the 4th of July, but I have a real hard time believing this when folks go all batshit like this.
Actually, in real life, I have YET to actually see one of these.
http://kwwl.images.worldnow.com/images/8214515_G.jpg
Glad you posted that, because I always wonder about the following: I thought all who served minus a couple had to qualify with a weapon that goes BOOM! Yes, we wear ear plugs, but still, one can hear BOOM! Soooo….how does one have trauma on things that go BOOM! when they had to be proficient on Boomy things? What about the whistling sound firecrackers make? Does this mean a person may get trauma when hearing a person whistle? Or the lights? Someone please enlighten this ignorant person.
Assuming your question is serous, there’s a huge difference between being in control of something going boom and having unexpected/unanticipated booms suddenly occurring somewhere near you.
For instance, I enjoy going to fireworks displays, but nearly had a heart attack when a new neighbor down the road set off fireworks one evening – I wasn’t prepared for it and took a defensive position before figuring out what it was and where it was coming from. I thought my reaction was entirely normal, but the rest of the family saw it as a bit over the top.
Thank you, OWB and yes, was serious when asking. Now have a different perspective when you shared the difference between being in control versus the unexpected. Never thought of it that way…makes sense.
Yup!
I hope I don’t blow my hand off with a pen-flar like i almost did two years ago 🤣🤣
Since it’s the Weekend Open Thread, I’d like to take the opportunity to point out how depressingly pathetic the Internet can be as a news medium if you pay attention to the dogs not barking. Here are a couple of examples:
I’m probably not the only member of the TAH deck crew with an interest in sailboats who was pissed to hear that the U.S. lost the America’s Cup this week in a 7-0 series against New Zealand. You don’t have to even like Larry Ellison to consider this a matter of national honor. Good on the Kiwis, bad on us.
And what sports stories dominated Google News, for example? How about the latest rumor, Number 347 or whatever, on a pending off-season NBA trade that might happen. Maybe.
This month also marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Frank Lloyd Wright, and while it’s true his personal life had more melodrama than an episode of the Kardashians, it seems wrong to just ignore what may arguably be the most gifted architect the U.S. ever produced.
And what did the online news media apparently decide to go with instead? Here’s yet another hit piece on Donald Trump pointing out how gauche Trump Tower is and what a meany he was for shit-canning the Art Deco facade of the crumbling old Bonwit Teller in Manhattan. All wrapped in a smarmy narrative pointing out the cultural short comings of The Donald, along with all the rest of us, who might question the narrow focus of a news media obsessed with New Yorkers talking about New Yorkers talking about New York.
Maxine Waters says that 700 billion people will die from Trumpcare. Between that and 93 million people a day dying from gun violence, I don’t see how we’ll survive this administration;
700 billion people? Which planets is she living on?
Same planet that Pelosi lives on. Say, speaking of Pelosi…doesn’t she and Maxine look as if they are twins separated by birth? Siamese twins that is, connected to the head. Surgery separated them…but it affected their brains. And yes, there are cases of twins being born of 2 different races (fraternal).
God….how much longer do we have to put up with those 2..they are both losing it…
If I’m right, the US population is just over 300 million. So that means if 93 million are dying each day from gun violence in the USA then the Nation wouldn’t last more than 4 days!
Zombies, obviously…..
700 billion to die? That would indeed be interesting, since (as of about 4 years ago) the best estimate of the total number of humans ever to walk on this planet throughout the Earth’s history was 108 billion.
http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/fire-in-the-mind/2013/08/11/how-many-people-ever-lived/
If there were 900 billions in existence, at the point we reached that number, we’d be scattered throughout habitable star systems.
You’ll be relieved to know that while Maxine’s idiotic remarks demonstrates quite clearly that she is the ignoramus she always appears to be, the latest estimate in regard to the number of habitable planets in the Milky Way is 100 billion alone (that may grow, too).
The object, of course, is to send quacks such as Maxine to these other planets to start a new civilization and leave the rest of us alone.
A friend bought a flag at a sci-fi con. it was a modified USA flag, with a spiral galaxy in place of the 50 stars currently used.
He said the poster behind the vendor said “The future is American!”
I like.
Maxine Waters and Corrine Brown took bone head math together in “Social Promotion Elementary”.
Something I came across this morning – guaranteed to piss you off:

Gulag! Gulag! Gulag!
Was just clicking my way through the interwebs, and saw on a news site that Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim are leaving the cast of “Hawaii Five-O” over being paid 15% less than Scott Caan and whathisname who plays McGarrett. I haven’t kept up on the show lately, but always liked Chin-Ho Kelly (he’s a lot less annoying than Scott Caan), and Grace Park is of course the second-hottest Asian chick on Earth (after Mrs. Whitey), so I found this news disappointing and decided I won’t bother trying to catch up on it now.
And then I found myself pondering how Hollywood, that accuses the rest of us of racism every goddamn day, refuses to pay two Korean stars of a popular show the same as the two white stars. Which led me further to the inevitable conclusion that the Hollywierd hypocrites can go fuck themselves.
It’s the edge of the world
And all of western civilization
The sun may rise in the East
At least it settles in the final location
It’s understood that Hollywood
Sells Californication
Well, since this is WOT, I guess i’ll post here, and ask all of you to keep family and crew in your thoughts and prayers, as our Dept just had a member take her own life.
Thanks
Damn it. Prayers for her family and all of you guys. I sympathize with anyone who finds themselves in that godawful hole of depression, having been there before myself. I wish she wouldn’t have done that and would’ve reached out to somebody instead.
Yeah, exactly how I feel TOW… and she had almost 600 contacts in her phone.. why the HELL didn’t she reach out to one of us???
Sadly, many first responders risk their jobs if they admit that they are struggling. PTSD among first responders gets far less understanding and help than that among military, but it’s no less real.
Very true. Our department had an Line of Duty Death back in October, so I think everyone would have been understanding of anyone that came forward and said they were struggling… unfortunately, we’ll never know.. Thanks again for the link you left below, I saved it in my favorites, I’ll take a look tomorrow, it’s late, and I’m hoping i’ll be able to sleep tonight..
Prayers for you and your Department, Fyr…
Going through the grieving process now – lost my Mom on Wednesday. Also found out at that time that my brother has been deceased for some time (my family is dysfunctional, to put it politely). It’s just my sister and I – Dad passed away back in ’99. Sucks to find things out years after the fact…
Very sorry to hear of your losses as well HMCS, will keep you in our prayers
Condolences.
Praying for you and your family.
Thanks to all… appreciate the support.
OH, geez. That is terrible news, Fyrfighter.
My sympathies to you, your family and crew members.
Hang in there, Fyrfighter. No good answers, at least not right now. Maybe later. Maybe never.
Hug your kids, or find somebody’s kids to hug.
Thanks all, yeah, not much in the way of info or answers at this point, just hanging together as a crew for now
DAMN sorry to hear that FF, Prayers Out. I had the same thing happen with a friend and coworker couple of years ago and it hit me like an unexpected gut punch.
Very sorry to hear of your loss, Fyrfighter. Hang in there, and reach out to people if you need it – sometimes stuff like that sucker punches you after the fact.
Thanks again all. Still here, finishing out a 96 hr shift ending in the morning. Vigil tonight, that’ll probably be pretty emotional…Crews seem drained, but hanging in..
FF, prayers for her family as well as for you and your brothers.
When you are ready:

Thanks Eden, and everyone else. The support is greatly appreciated! We’ll make it through this, it’s just going to be a long road.
Winn-Dixie to donate all July 4 profits to military nonprofit
Winn-Dixie will donate 100 percent of its profits made on July 4 to a nonprofit that supports post-9/11 veterans, service members and their families.
Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie, announced all if its grocery stores will partake in the effort to support Hope For The Warriors. The nonprofit offers clinical health and wellness, transition services, community engagement and sports and recreation for those who are going through physical and psychological recovery.
“Customers donate simply by shopping on the Fourth of July at all BI-LO, Harveys and Winn-Dixie stores, and additional personal donations can be made at checkout at all stores,” a release from the company stated. “Every cent of every dollar of profit” will go to the cause.
More than $5.8 million has been raised over the past two years by Winn-Dixie and its parent company.

That’s awesome! If there were any of those stores in our area, we’d definitely support them.
But which ones? either last or the year before they were donating to WWP.
From the article:
Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie, announced all if its grocery stores will partake in the effort to support Hope For The Warriors.
Good deal. Seems like a store worth finding, if you are in the southeast.

So Dallass is five six and one eighty.
BMI says that’s fat.
Hope you find the mug shot.
I didn’t know that shit can be piled that high…
well, john Kerry is like 6′ 4″….just sayin
He still looks and sounds like some wino sitting out in front of a bus station talking to himself.
Typecasting. Why has no alligator made a sandwich out of him?
(Oh, I do not mean to be mean to alligators, not at all!)
Feeding him to ANY critter would get one arrested for Animal Cruelty!
Gee, that must be where all those pounds I lost have gone to – right to his fat, idiotic gut.
This is for anyone in harm’s way.
A Happy and safe Fourth of July Weekend to ALL OF The Fine People of TAH®™!!
Anyone heard from The Most Interesting man of TAH®™ aka JRM lately?
Here’s yet another Railcam I found, this one is of the Ex-ATSF (Now BNSF) right of way from Chicago to LA which still hosts 70 MPH Freight and 80 MPH Amtrak even though La Plata MO is an Amtrak station stop. Surprising fact, the Amtrak train arrived EARLY today, I’m still trying to contact Ripley’s Believe it or Not!
Why am I watching this when absolutely nothing happens except for a bird flying by now and then? Hell, there hasn’t even been a car on that crossing. Maybe Bernasty will do a landing there soon?
I stand corrected. A car just went across.
Your timing is off. I was watching it 15 minutes ago and a container train with all the Wally World restock items went by.
Estimated speed was about 60-65 MPH.
story of my life
There goes my day. I’m sticking with this until I see a damned train. I’m a huge train fan since Dad was a railroad man for 50+ years. Ended up as Terminal Trainmaster for Seaboard Airline Railroad (later Seaboard Coastline Railroad). Used to take me to the yards and let me ride the switch engines with the fireman. I even shoveled coal a couple of time. I worked through college there as a callboy and a car knocker. Really.
Dammmit!!! Went to pee and missed the locomotives!
My Dad would have had the engineer of the 0954 train by the balls for that grade crossing whistle. Supposed to be 2 longs, a short, and a long as the locomotive hits the crossing.
As the monkey said whilst screwing the skunk, “I’ve enjoyed all this I can stand”…for now.
Claw! You have the duty. Pop smoke if that truck by the crossing gets any activity. Might be ISIS. Out
Roger. I have the duty.
Can Do. Out.
Another container train is going by right now. Truck hasn’t moved.
Couple of old farts in a golf cart just went over the crossing.
Wonder if they’re going fishing? Or making a beer run?
I saw it. East bound. And the whistling was perfect. NOW I’m off to the store.
That truck does what a GM Truck does best, it just sits there.
Hey! Sleeper cell truck is GONE!!!
Amish horse and buggy just crossed the tracks.
Ex, can you hear me? My comments aren’t showing up.
Maybe I’ve been blocked.
Lima Charlie 5×5
Loud & clear, Claw, sj.
Sarge is probably snoring, missed the call.
Claw and I’ve been on that like stink. It actually left yesterday but came back. It left again this AM. Looks like a paving job truck.
Oh, and #4 east bound is always late: 2 hours+ last few days and 4+ hours today!
Hello? Hello? Can you hear me now?
Jonn says the computerbot thought I was a spammer.
It’s gone again. I hear a train coming.
Major activity there now. Bobcat scraping up pavement on the crossing. Looks like the crossing is gonna get resurfaced.
You mean you missed two Eastbound and a Westbound?
You CAN use the You Tube feature and look back up to four hours ago, ditto with the Horseshoe Curve cam i shared last week.
P.S., the speed limit on that line is 65 for freight, 70 for Intermodal and Amtrak trains do 80.
Here’s the cam on the World Famous Horseshoe Curve, it was originally the Pennsylvania RR, then Penn Central, later Conrail and now it’s NS, they got it in the Conrail split. you can find these on YouTube and you can look back up to four hours previous using the rewind line at the bottom.
But that takes the fun out of it Proud. Plus Claw needs to refresh his Viet of the Nam experience and cover down on that VC truck.
Initial hourly SALUTE report.
ISIS stealth attack GM truck still plainly visible, no activity noted in immediate vicinity.
Out.
Breaks squelch twice on assigned radio freq (denoting no change to SALUTE report from OP/LP Claw) for the hourly update.
Where’s my relief? I’m hungry for a lunch meal of Ham&MF’rs.
Out.
Just like CQ duty: relief always late. I think LOngDonGSlurPer41 is your relief and he’s going to slither over and check out that truck.
If LOngDonSlurPer41 is my relief call the IG right now cause there’s gonna be a fragging at the LP that needs reporting.
That little shit ain’t taking my Ham&MF’rs time away from me.
Black pickup just crossed the rails, followed by a black sedan. Red sedan driving into the station parking lot.
If Amtrak can stop at a podunk town like La Plata, why cant they run a route to the city where my sister lives? It would be a lot more fun to take the train and not have to drive. I’d go visit her occasionally.
BNSF diesels hauling freight: oil tankers, hopper cars, some vehicle cars, construction materials – who said we don’t need trains any more?
Tan sedan crossing rails, white pickup crossing the opposite direction. I wonder what kind of town La Plata is. Peaceful and quiet, or starting to turn nuts.
La Plata, MO. 1,366 souls as of the 2010 census.
Three registered sex offenders, nine homes for sale.
One ISIS sleeper cell that has no knowledge of how to camouflage vehicles prior to playing chicken with oncoming freight trains./smile
Heeheehee!
My hometown has a population of 74,010, some major companies including Caterpillar, and two good teaching hospitals, plus a university, and a huge railyard for cargo. It doesn’t make sense to me to not have a passenger stop there. But I guess it’s how it is.
I noticed that Lester Dent, author of the Doc Savage novels, lived there.
That truck must belong to the sleeper cell…and they are all asleep.
Was that the red pickup?
No, not a moving red pick up.
The ISIS sleeper cell truck we’re talking about is that white, maybe two or two and a half ton, GMC parked across the road by the crossing.
Breaks squelch again. Still waiting for my relief.
Heads up CLaw! Movement near the truck at 1351. Tango pretending to be a weed whacker.
Okay. Saw it now when I rewound the video. Must have happened when I went to dig a cathole and drop a couple of biologic/eco-friendly landmines.
Definitely saw the pretend Tango flash some non-verbal hand and arm signals to the sleepers in the non-camouflaged Coyote truck.
Have forwarded the video to the crypto rats in S-2 for interpretation/analysis.
Ready for offensive actions if need be. Claymores are in place/clacker in hand. Tango Mike for running the WD-1 and TA-312 out to the OP. Now I can have some fun zapping fire ants since the relief finally showed up and it wasn’t SlUrPeR41./smile
Out.
Hey Supply Sergeant Claw! Have you considered having LOngDonSlurPer41 capture that truck and use it for trading material? Should be worth some sheets and coffee. Sucker is still there taunting us.
And, none of the cars in the station parking lot have moved all day. La Plata may be a hot bed of insurgency.
My bet is the cars at the station belong to people who are riding the Amtrak.
At 5’6″ and 180 lbs, LoNgDoNgSlUrPeR41 probably ain’t tall enough to haul his fat little ass up into the cab of the truck, let alone lead a one man assault to capture it.
But I’m betting if he attacked the sleeper cell truck while wearing his purple clownsuit and counting a drunken cadence, they’d die of laughter and taking the truck to use as trading material would be easy.
What you think?/smile
I wondered about that myself. Looks like a stake-sided flatbed to me… something that could haul lumber, melons or Wisconsin black bears looking for pizza.
White pickup again, crossing tracks.
Red 4-door sedan crossed the tracks just now.
Westbound BNSF 4 engines hauling containers and semitrailers. Sometimes, I recognize the company logos on the containers and trailers. Lots of FedEx on this train.
Two guys walking around aimlessly, plus a red pickup crossing the tracks after the train passed.
When BN (Burlington Northern) and SF (Santa Fe) decided to merge, do you know why they decided to call it BNSF instead of SFBN? That’s so they could say”Big New Santa Fe” or “Big New Shiny Frisco”instead of “Same Fuckin’ Burlington Northern” ( popular joke among us “Railnerds”).
Black SUV crossing the tracks.
Another pickup, black & white, pulling a trailer bed frame.
B&W pickup again, going back where it came from, no trailer frame.
Two ATVs with flags crossing the rails. Both stopped for look-see.
Two ATVS w/flags returning. Mission accomplished
Farm tractor crossed the rails. Looked like John Deere, couldn’t really tell.
There must be an Amish Community nearby, I’ve seen some of them on the station platform when an Amtrak train is coming.
Proud: when’s AMTRAK roll through? Want to alert Claw because that truck may be picking up VC/ISIS.
According to the live thread on YouTube it should be there soon! :hammer:
Tried the Horseshoe Curve one yet? I run the both of them in separate windows at the same time.
PLUS HSC has been good and busy today, search for “Virtual Railfan” on YouTube and you’ll find all kinds of other goodies from them they even have a video of two uncouplings while going down the mainline.
I’m afraid to watch the HSC…I’m already pissing away a beautiful afternoon. Maybe on a rainy day.
disregard. AMTRAK sked says in the AM around 0900-1000. Both ways. Looks like just 1 East and 1 West/day
Yeah, but Amtrak is sketchy at best when it comes to being on time.
I was WRONG because it just came in at 1358! Nice looking train. I’d love to take it cross country.
THERE IT IS!!!
The HSC cam also pans, you’ll see a retired PRR GP7 diesel loco that replaced a steam engine that was removed and restored to operation.
Already got a handle on what’s going on with the truck. There appears to be some type of tanker mounted on the rear. I’m betting they use the empty tank to pull a “coyote” routine to bring replacements back and forth from somewhere overseas (or Minneapolis whichever is closer) on a regular basis./smile
Getting pretty hungry. No relief in sight. Got my baby frag ready for when SLuRPer41 shows up.
Amtrak has come and gone, no Amish or Mennonites this time so I think all is well, that GM truck will keep doing what it does best, sit and rust.
Saw the Amtrak stop. One Muzzie type with two carry on rucksacks got on, five civilian types got off. No action over by the Coyote truck, though.
Battery is going dead on the PRC-25. May have to run some wire and a TA-312 out to the OP.
Relief still hasn’t showed. End of SALUTE.
Out.
How many Amtrak stops are scheduled there?
Amish, huh? They’d build a better house than most contractors could dream of building.
Another BNSF freight hauling container cars and semitrailers, plus some odd other cargo.
BNSF again, all container cars. I wish they’d restore the cabooses to freights.
BNSF westbound, hauling rigs and other stuff.
I could do this all day.
Another westbound BNSF hauling mostly trailers.
There is something relaxing about watching trains go through town.
I just wanna see a deer splat.
Move to Chicago. Metra hits deer constantly, also geese dumb enough to nest in the rails.
Westbound freight, containers and rigs. This is a satisfying hobby.
There are railroad tracks on the West boundary of my property…I walk the killing field and harvest the bones.
Splat!
…and move to Chicago?!?
That was just wrong!
😛 😛 😛 <3
Nobody wants to move to Chicago. In fact, nobody wants to live in Chicago unless they can live right downtown in the Loop. The others are moving to the burbs, putting up McMansions, "upgrading" neighborhoods, and three financial forecasters are now saying we are due for a LONG recession because the recovery from the 2009 implosion was not a true recovery, (very true), China is deep in debt, and things that should have been corrected were not.
Eastbound BNSF with two diesels pushing at the end, full load of hopper cars.
The locomotives at the end are DPUs, Distributed Power Units that are remotely controlled from the front, it makes for better handling.
The locals obviously have a healthy respect for that crossing. They almost all stop and look even if the gates aren’t in motion.
Mostly East bound too.
Bet Jonn is saying something like: I can’t believe my Dickwads are watching an empty railroad crossing on the 4th weekend.
Yeah, well, for some of us whose wives are out of town and eating bologna sandwiches for the duration, it’s something to do.
The son in Denver is hating it. The Sergeant Major has him standing tall for white glove room inspection as we speak./smile
Nice to see that Amtrak really does stop there, 2PM my time, in fact, and that family greeting each other very much was worth the wait.
Someone said on the YouTube chat that it looks like it’ll be a while until the next train comes while there have been at least three trains going over Horseshoe curve for every one passing through La Plata today.
Black pickup followed by black sedan, returned, to cross tracks going opposite direction. Must be after pork rinds.
For those liking something tamer, here’s the Merrimac, WI vehicle ferry:
Another fine livecam, API.
Thanks Ex-PH@! It looks like it’s good and windy there and I’ve seen a few folks wearing jackets as well, quite a crosswind on that lake today!
I know why this has me fascinated. The freight rail tracks in my town, 10 miles out of the city, run north of our house. You could set a clock by the banana train coming through at 9:45PM.
The old grain elevator is gone. Some houses have been torn down and replaced. My old high school was demolished and a grade school built there, and a new high school built north of town with yuppie housing nearby. But the whole place is farm country, cornbelt proper, and the trains would go through the middle of town, day and night, clackity-clack.
I didn’t realize how much I missed that sound.
Handover to Claw & Ex-PH: Truck still there and sleeper cell still sleeping. Lots of trains this AM. Railroad is switching it up on the VC/ISIS: earlier it was hard to predict which track the trains will be on. Seen East bound on the inside track and vice versa.
I got stuff to do today including go to a funeral. Never met the dearly departed – know his daughter so a respect thing. OUT
Good copy,SJ.
Have eyes on the military aged, uniformed individuals with rucksacks milling around on the platform.
Wonder if they are waiting for the heavy artillery and a FO/RTO to arrive before assaulting the station?
Thanks for the heads-up. Out.
2055 hrs SALUTE.
Nine (9) in military uniform w/rucksacks embarked the Amtrak.
Seven (7) civilian types, to include one in full Amish/Mennonite regalia, debarked.
No activity around the sleeper truck.
End report. Out.
Just watched Amtrak pull in and depart, heading westbound, and shortly after that, a freight heading eastbound.
It’s been a nice holiday for trains and watching them.
And meanwhile, a mini-typhoon hits the Casa de SEA annex, and it starts raining INSIDE.
Flooding stopped, but got some cleanup to do and have to find/correct the cause to prevent recurrence.
Holiday weekends are so relaxing.
At least I’m not tying to get to Maine. The backup from the York tolls was to Seabrook. New Hampshire. About 20 miles.
We were supposed to have rain this afternoon. My neighbor’s son is washing my house to get the algae off the siding on the north side, where the sun don’t shine. Last year, too cold, too dry, no algae. This year, warm, humid, lots of cloudy weather – algae. And my neighbor to the north offered to help me fix the front steps so that I can use them until next year, and then I’ll replace them.
There are good people everywhere.
And it’s raining again.
John Giduck – the turd with a face!
When Stolen Valorist Kyle Christopher Barwan goes to arraignment on his Violation of Probation charges on July 5th, he will have spent 42 in the company of Polk County’s sleaziest punks, thugs and miscreants. That makes a total of 122 days incarcerated this year. His “4th of July fireworks” will be during his “bite the pillow, bitch” evening with Bubba.
Ol’ “Stretched” must love the life.
My fingers are outrunning my mind this morning. That is “42 days”, above.
Marines and FMF Sailors on Team TAH:
Please be advised that our colleague ‘Yef’ ran through Dave Hardin’s ‘Beguiled by Bravado into Believing a Lie’ story over at http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=73109 during the middle of the night and dropped off this little gem for us:
“Yef says:
July 1, 2017 at 1:09 am
Well. I, for one, don’t like marines.
They act like if they are all infantrymen, when only one out of 7 is.
Embellishment anyone?”
Sorry, but I can’t let this one slide. Do with it what you will.
Semper Fidelis.
The arrogance of a Bezerkley student:

Where have we seen this type of behavior before?

“Schools” like UC Berzerkely do all they can to brainwash young minds into a logic, fact and common sense-free mental oblivion.
College student says stupid shit. Stop the presses.
For the record, what Little Miss Smarty-Pants doesn’t seem to realize is that, all things considered, the best J-School in California is probably USC Annenberg. A limited exception to that, IMO, is the UCB faculty member Alan Mutter.
Back around 2005 when newspapers started to drop like shotgunned doves, Mutter was one of only around a half-dozen people inside or outside of academia with an accurate grasp of how the sausage gets made in the business.
NBC Trump hating reported does too much nose candy in my opinion. Get your eye bleach ready.

It is NBC reporter Hallie Jackson.

For those of you stuck inside, because it’s raining or you just find battlefield digs interesting. This young man has had some interesting finds. He’s also pretty lucky he hasn’t blown himself up accidentally as well. 🙂
Eastern Europe was where the War was fought for the most part.
Very interesting finds on You Tube Channels. It’s not uncommon for them to pull an entire tank out of a Bog or river.
There are also an overabundance of Ghouls who think nothing of digging up graves and stacking up bones beside relics.
Stay safe this week, y’all.

TEN INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT DANEIL BERNATH THAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW 1. In 1967, Daniel Bernath received the Grammy for Best New Artist. 2. Although he did not win when he ran for President of The American Legion, he was voted “Most Likely To Die Of Autoerotic Asphyxiation”. 3. In May 1937, Daniel Bernath’s grandfather won a contest sponsored by the German government to pilot the zeppelin LZ Hindenburg as it docked in Lakehurst New Jersey. 4. In 2004, Daniel Bernath filed a class action lawsuit against Barry Manilow for the sum of $20,000,000, alleging false misrepresentation when he learned that Barry Manilow did not write the song “I Write The Songs”. Bernath later amended the lawsuit for an additional $10,000,000 when he discovered that Barry Manilow was born on June 17, 1943, and has not been alive forever; nor did he write the very first song, since records indicate that song publishing started in the mid 15th century, a full 500 years before Barry Manilow was born. 5. Daniel Bernath was awarded the rank of Honorary Chief Petty Officer by The National Association of Navel Photographers, a trade group affiliated with the Florida Citrus Commission to promote the consumption of oranges. 6. Daniel Bernath has argued in front of the Supreme Court. He also has argued in front of the elevator banks at Duncan Plaza, and in front of a pallet of fertilizer at a local retail store in Tigard Oregon. 7. Daniel Bernath filed a lawsuit against 20th Century Fox Studios for misappropriating his image when they introduced the character of Lionel Hutz on the television series The Simpsons. 20th Century Fox Studios was able to get the suit dismissed when they were able to prove that the character of Lionel Hutz is no way as incompetent and unethical as Daniel Bernath. 8. Daniel Bernath started an online petition to have Newton’s Law Of Gravity repealed on the grounds that is discriminatory against those that cannot read a fuel gauge. 9. Following the successful lawsuit against McDonalds Corporation when Stella Liebeck was scalded by a cup of coffee… Read more »
I did not know that.
The Internet; It’s Not Just For Porn, Anymore.
I once heard that Daniel A. Bernath sued an Aviation Gasoline maker for producing unnecessarily volatile fuel that could excessively evaporate during takeoff.
BHWHAHAHAHA !!!!!!!
😂 😜 😁 🤣 😅 👏👏👏👏👏
The blueberry season started last weekend in West Hog Flats, Indiana and I’m pissed.
Last year the opening weekend U-Pick price was $1.00 a pound, but this year’s opening weekend U-Pick price is $1.75 a pound.
But I guess either price, especially if canning jam is part of the overall plan for purchasing 50-60 pounds of blueberries, is pretty reasonable since a six ounce clamshell package of blueberries at Wally World runs you $3.96. I can’t even imagine putting up 20 jars of jam using Wally World blueberries at those prices.
Besides, I’m more of a Huckleberry fan anyway. Thank you for your time in reading into a small glimpse of the world outside the city limits./smile
The Duke was spot on back then and it rings true today:
Hell yeah, the Duke lays it out as always…
Net Call to 3/17 Air Cav.
Mule update?
Over
Claw………Mule is at a standstill, there’s one supplier for main bearings he has them but can’t find them in his warehouse. The story is his manager died so finding things are at a standstill! Go figure.
I’m planning on taking the M38A1 out of mothballs and driving it to the VFW on the fourth.
Life is good, having fun with the “little chickadee” I’m still following TAH every day, I just have not felt like commenting.
Hope your enjoying life and everything in your life is good.
