Good one. There’s always something haunting about Amazing Grace played on the ‘pipes. Another version of the song I’ve always liked is the one with flute and banjo from the film Memphis Belle. Here’s the link:

Non Cedo Ferio

Thinking of the loss of two friends this weekend. Spc Marc Anderson. KIA 4 March 2002 and Lori Ann Piestewa KIA. 23 March 2003. I wanted to share a little about both of them. Marc served in the 75th Rangers. I met him during Marne Focus FTX 2001 I was with an ADA unit at that time. We were older troops he was around 30 and me 35. We hit it off and hung out a few times. He was a middle school teacher from Florida who joined the Army to help pay off student loans. As a testament to who he was. After he died a portion of his SGLI was allotted to a former student who could not afford college. Lori I met processing Fort Bliss I’m October 2001. I went to 1/7 ADA. She to 507th Maint. I saw her over lunch at Burger King on post a few days before deploying. She said she wanted to do her job over there and get back home to her kids. It was the last time I saw her. She is now a historic figure. As is Marc I’m glad I knew them I miss them. I got no regrets. Thanks

So many names that I’ve forgotten, except my crew-mate and friend, SP/4 Clint Collins, KIA 8 May 68 and I got the million dollar wound and sent home.

I had the honor of speaking to his family in 2007 by phone explaining his sacrifice and his bravery during TET.They had no idea how he died.

I Troop 3rd Sqd. 11th ACR, ACAV I-26.

Normally I speak of my comrades in arms who were lost on the anniversaries of their deaths, but this Memorial Day I will speak of another.

A hometown friend from my part of the woods in rural Indiana, a childhood, neighboring farm friend who left us way too soon.

His name was Bob Vessely. He graduated from the USNA in 1972. He was killed on August 31st, 1983 when his A7 Corsair collided with another plane over Roosevelt Roads NAS.

He is buried at Arlington Cemetery, Section 13, Site 5272-1-B.

Fair Winds and Following Seas, Sailor. You are not forgotten.
