VA fires Toby Mathew
Fox News reports that yet another director has been fired by the VA – this one, Toby Mathew, in Louisiana.
The director of the beleaguered Shreveport VA hospital in Louisiana has been fired following a three-year tenure filled with scandal including accusations of covering up a secret wait-list, creating severe staffing shortages and refusing to buy essentials like vital signs machines, linens or mattresses.
Toby Mathew, who became director of Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in June 2014, was fired on April 13 due to “charges related to general misconduct, and failure to follow policy and provide effective oversight of the Center’s credentialing and privileging program,” said an internal VA memo obtained by Fox News.

The VA confirmed his removal in a brief statement: “Toby Mathew was removed from employment as director of the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana effective April 13, and he is no longer at VA.”

In just over two years, he racked up a long list of complaints, spelled out in three formal requests seeking an investigation. KTBS 3 News obtained copies of those complaints.The first, dated September 2, 2016, says, “Mathew has a consistent pattern of bullying, intimidation, discrimination, harassment and retaliation against many staff members … that clearly violates a number of policies.”
Funny how it wasn’t possible to fire poor performers at the VA in the past, but suddenly two directors have been tossed to the curb in the last few months.

Seems that Toby wasted no time going shopping when he took over. It was a hot time in the old town for him. Then, Trump. Sucks to be a gov’t administrator about now. There’s a guy who has guys who are looking hard and taking action. Nice.

No worries. I’m sure that Mathew has already been contacted by unscrupulous attorneys looking for a big government payday. Mr. Mathew could conceivably get his job back (with backpay) or a different VA job at the same pay grade. We’ve seen it all before.

I’m surprised we haven’t seen the update to this story yet today with, “MPSB overturns firing of Matthew and puts him back to work with all pay and benefits restored.” But then, it’s been a couple hours. Maybe tomorrow we’ll see that? Maybe Toby hasn’t gotten his lawyer a retainer yet.
Fox says, “The report, reviewed by Fox News, said Mathew severely impacted the careers of 55 employees and specifically alleged that Mathew had “a constant pattern of bullying, intimidation, discrimination, harassment and retaliation” against staff, which violated policies and affecting patient health.”
Sounds like a heck of a guy to work for. I’m sure he had your six if you were in the right and at all times if you, uh, met certain criteria.

It should be noted that he can (and most likely will) appeal the firing / removal.
We say this trick with the two women who broke the law in moving expenses and other things, and the administrative judge allowed them back into the system because “no one had lost their job for that in the past.”
You can’t fix corruption and malfeasance until you realize that the rules have to be applied – and not applied as they were in the past.
Fire them all. Let the stupid judges say they can’t be fired for cause – then fire the judges.

He has hired an attorney to fight the dismissal. I hope they drag him through the same corrupt system that he used against anyone that filed a grievance. He would make it go to hearing, which takes a few years most of the time and workers cant afford attorneys to fight. His tactic was to bleed the enployee of money in “VA court” so they couldnt win and he wouldnt be found at fault. It costs employees well up to and over a years pay to fight wrongdoing so many of them cant do it. Corruption. This is how the leaders have become so vile, they are almost untouchable.
