Outstanding.

AW1Ed

Wow.

Awesome

2/17 Air Cav

Cool beans.

Green Thumb

Good stuff.

Lets just hope the substandard discharge crowd does not try to use this kind of cool stuff to their advantage.

Ex-PH2

Nice.

There were women over there in Vietnam, you know. Where are they? Where are the women?

2/17 Air Cav

You’ll have to ask the Dixie Chicks to write a song about them.

Ex-PH2

Not even a tiny bit funny.

2/17 Air Cav

Joan Baez, then?

Ex-PH2

GAG.

The Stranger

Joni Mitchell?

Come on, now! We’re trying here!

Try as a comeback:

“No, the ones who -went-.”

“Not the Russian women, -ours-.”

Don’t go all humorless on us, just ’cause your pet peeve gets poked. You of all people should know this is the wrong place for that. Where’s that fireball comeback of yours?

Ex-PH2

Oh, I don’t think it’s humorless to ask why the only vets in this video are men. Must be something about testosterone levels being too low.

The Stranger

We’re just joshing you, girl. Come on, a statue of the most famous WAVE is in the background of the video.🤠

A woman friend of mine recently told me about her friend that was a nurse in Vietnam. She married a nam vet and they live happily in Utah.

Ex-PH2

Women veterans are three times as likely as men veterans to be homeless.

2/17 Air Cav

You know as well as I that, in the eyes of most servicemen, nurses walk on water and are regarded as angels w/o wings. In a sense, they are like cooks–no glory and greatly loved by the troops.

The Stranger

That’s right…a good cook is worth his or her weight in gold. I went to BOLC with a prior service enlisted cook with the 82nd Airborne. A flying spoon! Hey, a little more Fogerty!

Ex-PH2

Durn it, AirCav, you just will NOT let me be butthurt about this, will you?

26Limabeans

Is that because they are women or because they are veterans?

Frankie Cee

I believe that the lack of recognition of the women who served in Vietnam, (or any other conflict), is only because of the ratio of women to men. Not at all about sexism, or to demean women. I have never heard anyone not give them appropriate appreciation when they are mentioned.
A similar example would be how those of us in the Infantry are “all about us”, but yet would go through hell to protect a “Doc”. We seldom mention our medics but we damned well appreciate that they were nearby, and what they did for us. Most of the women in Vietnam, I believe, were in nursing, and all were greatly appreciated

Ex-PH2

Dadburnit, you guys just are not going to let me get away with being butthurrt, are you? (Pouts in the corner.)

ex-OS2

BZ!

Eden

Check out the name on the sign the girl is holding at about 3:15.

Yes, Fogerty himself is an Army Reserve veteran.

The Stranger

Yes, he is. And he made awesome music with CCR and solo. I will say, his previous album pissed me off. This almost makes up for it.

Luddite4change

One of my family members has toured with Fogerty the last few years. Great guy. Didn’t know he was an Army Reserve veteran until I saw this earlier today.

Ken

I hope that no one takes this as sour grapes, but here goes. Growing up in Oakland, CA, just a few miles from El Cerrito, CA, home of CCR, as a 90% disabled Vietnam veteran I get a bit miffed when Fogerty waves the flag and touts his veteran’s status.

Fact is,he isn’t considered a veteran per the law. He never spent one day on active duty outer than Basic or AIT.

Old John joined the Army Reserves during the height of the Vietnam war to avoid going to Vietnam. He’s said so in interviews.

He also said that he couldn’t wait to be done with the whole military thing and the happiest day of his life was getting discharged.

Now that veterans, especially VN veterans are being viewed in a positive light he’s all in.

Glad that he’s drawing attention to the plight of veterans, but he should have stepped up in and gone RA when he had the chance.

But doing a few years of active duty he would have run the risk of deploying the Vietnam, and this would have run counter to the hippies he was involved with, not to mention put a hold on his music career.

To me, he’s not much better than a draft dodger.

Luddite4change

He was born in May 45, so his prime draft eligible years were 63/64, not exactly the height of the VN War.

Fogerty’s ETS was July, 1967. Plenty of time to raise his hand and volunteer. Now he was to be counted among us. Not buying it.

The Stranger

You have every right to be pissed and you don’t need to apologize here. Fogerty pissed me off with his 2007 album when he decided to be blatantly political and call out Bush by name and deed. Yeah, he didn’t say shit about Obama and now all of a sudden cares about vets now that a Republican is in the White House.

Claw

OK. Time to call out possible “Bullshit” on the video.

Three different times the old, dirty, bearded dude sitting next to the water with a guitar and a “Please Help, I’m a Vet” money box is featured.

The sign says “UH-1 Helicopter Crewman, 6 years, 142nd AVN” and I guess he’s supposed to portray himself as a homeless, down on his luck, drug addicted Viet of the Nam Veteran.

Well, here’s the pisser. Based on what I found (or didn’t find) 142d AVN never existed during the Viet of the Nam time frame. There is no listing of it as a unit in either the VHPA, the VNHCMA or the VNCMN.

As near as I can tell, an outfit numbered as the 142d AVN didn’t exist until 1987 and it’s now and has always been a unit of the New York state National Guard.

So, is stolen valor being reflected in the video? Your guess is as good as mine.
