Coast Guard won’t change ratings
Military.com reports that the Coast Guard has decided against changing their system of ranks and ratings like the Navy has decided;
“With the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard [Steven Cantrell], we said, ‘What would the workforce think about this,’ and it would cause chaos,” [Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Paul Zukunft] said. “I cannot afford chaos when every person in the Coast Guard has a 24-by-7 job to do.”
The Coast Guard, the smallest of the branches, has an active-duty force of about 40,000, compared to the Navy’s nearly 324,000. It also has a smaller ratings system, with fewer than two dozen separate ratings compared with 89 for the Navy.
Imagine that. A branch chief and his senior NCO who aren’t going to make a change solely for the sake of making a change.

Hopefully Trump will appoint a SecDef and service secretaries who will set out to immediately undo all of the SJW social engineering idiocy carried out by Carter and Mabus, et al, over the last few years, and get DOD back in the business of training for, preparing for, and when necessary winning wars.
I’m not holding my breath, though.
HEAR, HEAR!!
GOOD FOR THE COAST GUARD! Everytime get a dimwitted a.h. in charge of the Navy, they come up with this idiotic bullshyt! I remember it seemed to start with Zumwalt! Trump….get those a.h.’s OUT OF AND NO CONTACT WITH OUR MILITARY!!
Can they rename ships? There is some nasty stigma associated with some of those names.
If we wanna’ do gay/lesbian related stuff, surely there’s at least one G/L Veteran who served with enough distinction to merit the honor of having a ship named after them? Granted, it may require some hunting, but I’m sure we can find at least one.
You mean somebody who did their job honorably instead of puffing their resume to be an SJW poster child?
There’s gotta be at least one.
You bet, “pussified” by pussies in charge!!!
About DAMN time!
Mattis for SECDEF!
Good on the Coasties!
Agreed – good call by the USCG.
Sometime’s falling under another Department of the Federal Government during peacetime has its advantages. (smile)
Amen to that… nice to see them use some “common sense” against the SJW’s in the Puzzle Palace
BREAKING NEWS:
U.S. Navy reverses decision to abolish ratings. Earlier plans were to make all Sailors gender neutral.
Film at 11:00.
Were all the males going to undergo a “chopadickectomy” operation?
Good move Coast Guard. Wasn’t aware how few ratings there were in CG.
Yeah, but they spoke up after the election. Now with the Trumpminator taking office in 2 months, everybody is brave and stand up to the community organizer in chief.
I got no praise for fair weather braves.
Is a man not brave if he waits for the enemy machine gun to run out of ammo before popping up to throw his grenade?
Or do we call him “smart” and promote him?
In the case at hand, he was probably stalling already, and could have continued to 20 January.
Not an in your face “bleep that noise! No way sir!” Not exactly invisible, either.
Can we say, “good enough. The right thing got done.”?
I was previously in the Navy as a GM2 and Army as a 45B SGT. I just rejoined the Navy as an IS2 because I wanted a true skill and career to prepare for, and I’ve always wanted to be an IS and would be (and am) extremely proud to vall myself one.
Literally days before I re-re-enlisted, this crap goes down. I’m like wtf? The worst part was NOBODY saw it coming or even heard a whisper about it until the edict came down from on high.
That’s a very bad precedent to set. This just goes to show that dems’ obsession with bringing society and military culture to a parallel since they took over in 2006 in the name of social justice has come full circle.
Coming from the Army, I understand a part of the ratings/jobs argument, but this is a piss poor way to do things with absolute no input from the fleet. These doorknobs wanted to do it while they could and they don’t have to deal with the fallout.
I’d like to see Trump’s appointments do something about this, but I’m afraid that it’s irreversible and permanent. I’m furious to no end about this and the only way to make any sort of impact is to maintain pressure on lawmakers and leadership. But that’s a long stretch.
I’m going to take back many of my previous derogatory comments about Coast Guard types. It sounds like they should be the ‘Real’ Navy despite a serious lack of submarines.
I’m glad there is one service that has sufficient sack to stand up to the SJW’s
Good on ya, Coasties.
I agree with the USCG not to make any unnecessary changes like the USN. To show my support, I will refrain from telling everybody why you need to be at least 6′ tall to join the Coast Guard.
That is all.
I’ll bite. Why?
It’s a joke about how far from shore the Puddle Pirates can go.
It’s a punchline to an old joke.
Why do Coasties have to be six feet tall?
So that if their ship sinks, they can wade ashore.
Thanks. I’ll put that one low on my list 🙂
This is the benefit of not having a civilian service secretary who wants to look good for his boss, and a cabinet secretary who is too occupied with real world stuff to be in the weeds to the point of dictating personnel issues.
When anybody would hit me with that joke I would answer: We’ve solved that problem, we walk on top of the water.
Hmm. Perhaps put the Coasties in charge of DoD until sanity is restored?
What else do we have left to lose? Word is Randy Forbes will be new SECNAV. Anybody know anything about him?
Randy Forbes: Never spent a day in uniform.
Vietnam Draft Lottery Number 198.
Lawyer.
That last word is enough to feed him to the fish!!!
