Deconstructing a Dipshite
Well, we have a new friend. He can’t shoot an azimuth, cries a lot, and doesn’t know that an NCO’s job is to stop troops from stealing gold coins. But, he is a prolific writer, as you may have noted from the gazillion comments he has thrown down today.
Anyway, I decided that since Gilligan clearly wanted attention, I would let fellow Milblog of the Year finalist , Blackfive, (and theoretically thus our adversaries) the opportunity to take him out. I’m just kinda busy. As irony would have it, Gilligan and I were in A-stan at the same time. While he cries about his service, I appreciated both what I did, and the country that allowed me to do it. Anyway, he was an engineer who called in fire support from “Hueys”, while I was just a lowly infantryman earning my way in this crazy world. However, to counterbalance his experience as a tunnel rat, and weeping over weapons caches blowed up (it is not pronounced Cash-ay James), I give you our weapons cache destruction, voice supplied by Sniper, and a humanitarian mission we ran.

That squirrel was the best clay modeling sculpture I have ever done… which isn’t saying much. But my sculpture has one thing that the little artsy-fartsy kid in grade school art class didn’t have: C-4.
By the way, if you recall it took us a week or two to even put a dent in that cache. And that was only one of five shots we did that day.
Gilligan,
Nice hat…
Nice video of helping Afghan people who manage to be cheerful in the face of so many problems. God Bless them and all the soldiers there.
heh,
Flashbacks to “Caddyshack”…..
The Thunder Run has linked to this post in the – Web Reconnaissance for 01/09/2009 A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention, updated throughout the day…so check back often.
What a whiney little biotch, this Engineer! I mean, I am a CA guy, and even I don’t cry about the heartbreaking stuff I saw in Afghanistan during my tour! 2004-2005 was an interesting year, but seeing villages where Cholera and other diseases and viruses wiped out in the civilized world a hundred years ago are still killing people, that is heartbreaking! But I still won’t whine and cry about it. Damn, first those retarded Stress Cards, then the even more retarded reflector belts, now they let cry babies in the Army, what the hell happened to recruiting standards? 😉
CA? You’re banned, seriously. I draw the line at CA.
😉
OK, you aren’t banned, unless this is CPL Duncan, in which case, banning back in force.
“You guys don’t need to provide security for me. I’m Special Operations….”
OK Tiger, you go get ’em!
Duncan is a SGT now. Nope I am definitely not him. I was one of his Joes though and that sounds like something he would say 😀 Another favorite he used to say is “I’m from the streets!” right before he would kick somebodies ass. ROFLMMFAO!!!!!!!
I am one of those rare, actually squared away CA NCO’s. I was raised in an Infantry/SOF household, but I don’t profess to know much about Infantry TTPs. I would love to learn, I graduate from college soon, and am considering a jump to officer rank, in the Infantry branch or somewhere else in the SOF community. TSO, I am one of those rare CA Soldiers who when asked what to do by CA Officers, if a child with a weapon pointed it at me, that I would follow the SOP 😉 Apparently, to them my answer was the wrong one. CA Soldiers aren’t always the brightest bulbs in the tactical light box……
Holy crap Lucky, you know Duncan?!?!? Now THAT in and of itself is a riot. Small world… well, big enough to contain a few billion people, the Rocky Mountains, and Duncan’s ego. LOL!
AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I had the pleasure of being in the same S4 Cell and on the Movement Control Team with him back in 2005. That was a ‘special’ experience, the only MOSQ’d supply person was the SFC, the rest of us were CA guys. It really is a small world. Before that, I was in Herat. That deployment taught me exactly how NOT to act as an NCO. CA is an interesting and challenging MOS sometimes, but I cringe every time we are shown in the media with Infantrymen. Watch the show ALPHA COMPANY: IRAQ WAR DIARY on the Military Channel. The CA Major is blowing smoke up the Recon Marines’ collective asses, saying that a Sheik is a good guy (the Sheik and his sons paid IED makers and bombers). I just want to say that not all CA ppl are completely retarded.
There were some guys in the unit that really liked Duncan, I just couldn’t get over that one speech and never gave him a second shot.
My 1 really good experience with CA was at PLDC. 2 of my buddies with CA went out on the field problem. I took my gas mask out of the carrier and put in a poncho liner. And didn’t bring anything else to sleep with, thinking I am infantry, need to move light. The 2 CA guys brought COTS, PILLOWs AND BLANKETS. So they set up cots, were all snuggled in, and peppering me with “How does that ground feel dumbass” all night.
FULL on COTS. They showed up with their TA50 still in bags. They must have thought I was the biggest asshat ever.
Duncan was alright in moderation. But only then. You don’t want to know what he is up to now, trust me, you will cry. That sounds like CA. I was made the Student Platoon SGT @ PLDC for the entire first week. That was an eye opening experience. Weapon safety and muzzle awareness are two of my biggest pet peeves. When my squad drew our weapons, the first three NCOs flagged at least ten ppl with their rifles, right in front of the cadre. I went apeshit, and they couldn’t understand why. I brought my cot, a change of socks, spare shirt and lots of TP with my TA50, thats it. I enjoyed the tactical leadership portion of PLDC, and would transfer to 11B in a heartbeat if I could, who knows, maybe after college graduation…
And if I could do it all over again, I would go Air Force TACOPS. Fight with the infantry, sleep in the nicest hotels.
Lol! I know! I had originally intended to go AF, either Combat SAR, JTAC, or PJ, but CA kinda fell into my lap. Oh well, its all good, I could go Active CA, they are always hiring…
The reason behind my joining the Army over the AF, is my father the Jarhead exclaiming “No son of mine will join that faggity little flying club!” So I joined the Army, mostly to piss him off 😎
Lucky,
Having been aircrew with the Navy, and had the opportunity to RON at AF bases, I have to say they are the pampered ones. Their visiting airmen quarters were like staying at the Hilton. There were all sorts of amenities, and each man got a private room.
Most Navy bases, there were either open bay barracks with a communal head, or open bay barracks with cubicle dividers between each set of bunks. Seriously.
I have yet to get a handle on just exactly WHAT the AF does. I mean, they have these beautiful clubs, golf courses, swimming and fitness facilities, large exchanges, manicured lawns, lots of nattily-clad folks walking briskly from place to place, or jetting about somewhere for some PP brief or inspection.
Hell, every now and then my crew had to camp out under the bird. It just doesn’t seem fair, I suppose. Then again, we didn’t have 42 sets of instructions and 7 layers of supervisors and QA folks to wade through in order to empty the trash. 🙂
Honestly, I have yet to find a good reason to NOT repeal the Key West Agreement.
LOL! 😀 I hear ya! They even call their barracks Dorms.
It is a cool squirrel? How long did that take? As an engineer thou.. I would never do dumb shit like that. But other ’71’s might. About crying sorry its a lot to hold back. As for being a lowly combat rock and calling in Hueys?? Get it right I was an engineer at the time but MOS1371 however I was in an infantry role as 03XX. Now any questions to that will be answered in a follow on post if you prefer. So getting back to calling in air support. I didnt have to call them they were actually on the way.. and the first on site was a Blackhawk 2nd was a Huey yes from our FOB less then 10-15km away. We also received 2 fixed wing on hand in the area. My FOB was getting rocketed from Pakistan and we were a mobile CAAT team already outside the wire. So we were contacted and told a STA team had eye’s on what they believed to be FO’s. Now all the ‘directions’ that you claim I gave.. I yes ordered the Blackhawk to drop to my hill and pickup a large group of Marines and a Devildoc. The Blackhawk then as ordered, climbed and landed on the other hilltop less then a few hundred meters away. In the defilade I waited with 2 guntrucks a TOW and me on the 240G. And further down the hill a ordered our 81’s to set up the tube. Thats all the instructions… sooo wanna hear more? Now when the Blackhawk landed and dropped my crew we pulled out of defilade and exposed the guntruck turrets. The Blackhawk pulled away and informed me of their est flight time left (fuel). And I instructed them to stay on station to pick up PUC’s for immediate detention back to our FOB. At this time i had the radio for my guntrck plus the squad PRR, and the commo was coming in from COC and even STA was online but we couldn’t hear them. These Marines landed on the hilltop (B) and the 3 suspected… Read more »
sorry some minor editor things like we and were ‘s in there and such.
Now about my 03xx well in ’03 I was in Kuwait and the OIF invasion was abut to kickoff. The guy came over and asked if I wanted to reenlist. Since I already had a pkg in. I said sure but he informed me my MOS1371 was filled no boatspace. So I opted for lat move into the infantry 0311. When I reported they assigned me to the CAAT teams as an 0351. however they never could promote me and this is why.
I had never lead Marines as a 03 Cpl and had never been to SOI. Likewise I could not receive a promotion to Sgt as an 1371 since there was no 71 senior around to approve that I’m qualified. They he;d me as an 03xx and for 2 years I never had a cutting score, in either field! wtf lol.. it was like 1-2 mo after I got out the mail me my promotion warrant, in which field I’m not sure haha but I’ll never wear Sgt stripes probably I just don’t feel it. And if any reporter/journalist/ blogger etc try’s to call me Sgt I try to steer them to Cpl.
Perhaps all IVAW members need to post such descriptions and disclaimers before speaking. It would save them much humiliation.
Help:
One of you young-un’s fill me in. What is a “CA”? This ex-Airborne ol’ fart don’t know that one. Is it good? Or is it like an ROTC LT? Eeewwwwww!

I’m with you Frank… I was reading this thinking that Lucky was from California. LOL
Skye- I don’t know that posting any thing would help to debunk the fakes from the legit people who went downrange. Proof is usually for me in meeting someone and trusting that they wouldn’t try to deceive you, but this is not always good. And yes there are times when you should dbl and triple check a story or fact. But sometimes the bullshit is worse then that.. like getting corrected, on the correct way to pronounce ‘cache’?! This is crazy, but someone actually wrote that on top of the thread. If supposing, all the testifiers did write out letters.. someone would be on this in 2 secs to say its scripted or pre-written by someone else. Hell I’m sure someone would be like ‘oh that sounds like so~so from the 70’s who testified’. So what if testifiers wrote what they said or clarified what they said.. this would be the best way but still not fool-proof (ie POS MacBeth, since his story wasn’t even consistent fully through his youtube clip that i saw). So what is the right way then? To verify, precisely what everyone was saying. Is there a way, cause I would love to know? I have tried to clarify on here; but am I really the only one to do that? Hasn’t there been a flood of IVAW testimonies dropped in your inbox? There should be, but would it be enough?… That’s my question. Because to me, if I was on your side of the debate this would never be over.. even after someone wrote 2 full posts to tell the story, it still would never be over. Because ideals and values are at stake. Am I right? Don’t you all think IVAW is just trash because AS YOU PUT IT they speak ill of the troops; when most of you know you served with some unsavory types yourself….?? No? Not at all? Not one? I still don’t see anything posted up about the writings of the 14th … cause noone on your site can even really check if what I’m saying is legit. Or cause… Read more »
The reason why we question the IVAW is that the repeated theme between what they say and what I have observed first hand. I have talked to a lot of Iraqis and I still believe that we are justifed by being in Iraq. Why can the IVAW not see this if they have claimed that they have been there too?
Well SporkMaster- What have you seen? I ask this genuinely to help us both understand. Think about this though for a second, I was in Iraq in 2003, Cuba in 2003, and Afghanistan in 2004. Even though
(I think it was Jonn) said we were there at the same time. Its very close but still our perspectives would be different. He was in an Army unit while I was with a Marine unit. I was in this region he that, my command has these ROE’s his had those.. you see the point?
This isn’t an attack to Jonn or to service members doing their job/and the right thing. Rather instead I spoke out at least (I won’t speak from other peoples defense or perspective) to make note of these things that went on that I didn’t find correct.
I would also like to point out that while the ROE’s for Jonn and myself might have been different, they also changed even within our unit, and sometimes within your role in the mission (ie STA).
Jonn wrote: To clarify; I never said I was in any of those places. Last year, IVAW claimed that only the service of this generation’s warriors warranted attention in this discussion. This year, only service that occurred during their EXACT period of service counts as a foundation for the discussion.
The only problem with the ROE was that it required a measure of common sense – the only thing the Marine Corps couldn’t issue you, apparently.
AW1 Tim,
The USAF is unique in that for the most part, it is Officers they send off to fight.
Just an observation. No snark intended.
This from the dipshit that didn’t know that a compass reacts poorly to a machine gun in close proximity. Please do go on about how wonderful a Marine you were.
My point exactly.
http://www.badassoftheweek.com/puller.html
I won’t go on about my Marine career, unless its a specific question. But here a funny tribute true a true Bad Ass, Chest Puller. enjoy!
Well I have been working with doing engineer projects with the Iraqi army. I have also had a chance to talk to both the IP and IA forces in different areas to help get a better understanding of how things are going. Things are getting repaired slowly, the local markest are full the thriving. I got a chance to help supply a 100 man strong IA company with medical supplies. I even got the chance to live with some IA when they where in transit tents with our unit doing a joint op bridge repair. Recently I to go with a platoon to help do small repairs to a local school.
From the people that have been in the country at be begining that are with my unit also say that there is a big difference between then and now. Not to say that there are not problems, but there have been major improvements. I have some more detailed stories I could send you.
The amount of hostile action that I have seen has been minor, but the main reason that we do have guys that hit IEDs, is that we are actively looking for them compared to the past.
I am getting too, wordy but long story short; things are getting better.
WS,
Maybe if the IVAW weren’t full of goldbricks and slackers your stories would hold more water. Instead we see a steady stream of people who couldn’t hack it in the military and sound whiny and discontented. Plus, the IVAW has publicized way too many provably bullshit stories, and that makes you guys the kids that cried “Wolf!”. Add to that the IVAW’s direct associations with groups like “Code Pink” and the VVAW, and your credibility starts sucking vacuum.
I wouldn’t take an IVAW members word for it if he told me the sky was blue.
Winter Solider
Here is the thing. It just seems that with every case that some one for IVAW comes out that there are many thing incorret in thier stories. Medal claimed but not earned, claiming to been places where they have not been and support of those that desert for the main reason that they do not want to deploy, rather then anything illegal happing.(real or imagined) Andre Shepherd would be a perfect example of that.
Winter Soldier….I’ve heard of Gen.CHESTY PULLER,U,S.M.C. But who is this chest puller? Some new Porn star?
lol i have more typos then anyone. common sense is a great read if your into that.
