Clayton Donoghue; forged discharge and filth charges
One of our Canadian friends send us a link about Clayton Donoghue, a fellow up north who was busted for wearing unauthorized awards and for having child filth;
Orillia OPP received a complaint Monday regarding an individual attending local parades sponsored by the [Royal Canadian Legion] wearing medals not awarded to him.
As a result, the Orillia OPP Street Crime Unit arrested 62-year-old Clayton Donoghue.
Police also executed a search warrant at Donoghue’s Mooney Crescent residence and his business. Several items were seized that had been worn by the accused while attending public parades and events, police said, adding they also located items related to accessing and possessing child pornography.

It is not illegal to own military uniforms and medals, police explained, but it is illegal to wear medals or marks one is not entitled to in public, where it can be seen as posing as military personnel.
Like I’ve said, stolen valor is the warning flare for prosecutors. They’re all guilty of something else besides appropriating awards and decorations they didn’t earn.

When it comes to a slug charged with SV and child porn possession, I must say that the child-porn matter gets my exclusive attention. In this case, as a result of the investigation into SV, the child porn charges resulted. Possession of child porn in Canadia carries a max of 5 years. Accessing child porn also carries a max sentence of 5 years there. So, if he’s convicted, slimy here can catch 10 years. Here’s hoping he gets some years so he constantly tell himself that had it not been for his bullshittery, his child porn would not have been discovered. I like that prospect.
He won’t get anywhere near 10 years, not on a first offence. A two year suspended sentence is more likely. That’s the unfortunate truth.
In this country, he’d get at least 10 years, I think, and no suspended sentence on first offense.

I had been working on a theory that during the Spring and Summer months (when the weather gets nicer), PoSer’s start coming out in the light of day to share their stories and wear their uniforms (which could explain why we’ve seen such an increase of them lately).
But then I had to stop and think: That doesn’t explain PoSer sightings during the colder months. Even when they hunker down indoors to work on their stories, they still seem to be as prolific as any other time of the year.
Just goes to show how difficult it is to predict the behaviors of con men, thieves, criminals, liars and whatever other category these shit-bags fall under.
…but then again, I’m no scientist. Does anyone else have a theory?

Well, my theory is that the Walter Mitty fantasies are the same thing that infect stalkers/bad boy/girlfriends, and the same thing that infests StarTrek/B5/Battlestar Galactica/Star Wars fans. They aren’t part of that, but they wannabe part of that, so they go there in their tiny little minds.

Sgt(Ret)…A theory is just that, one man’s opinion. All I can add to your question is the one bond most seemingly have in common. That being wanting to be seen in every parade and opportunity where they can wear a uniform and beg the question: “Here I am, anybody got any questions about my war stories and how I EARNED all these special awards for bravery?”
Meanwhile is anyone else seeing more and more RVN memorabilia on their heads and bodies, in addition to their automobiles? Appears to be a preponderance these days of those just begging to be asked.
Finally, one last SERIOUS personal question. At least from the RVN war, does anyone share a reluctance to get in contact with and KEEP in contact those you served with in RVN? Is it just me, or am the only one who does not want to re-establish lasting relationships with old friends because I want to forget? Sure, I do keep in contact with a couple of old tank buddies, but wanting to reminisce over the inevitable bad times prevents me from trying to be what we once were. Worse yet, after being on this site for a while, I really don’t want to listen to ANY war stories by those so ready to preach them loudly in front of an audience. So many who live so far away seem impossible to anticipate the close friendship of life depending on on another

My period of service was 1986-2012 so I can’t answer your question, but I can say that a majority of the officers and senior enlisted I served with during my “formative years” of service served during Vietnam. I listened and learned from them and it made me a better person. To that generation of warriors I am grateful.
I don’t have an easy answer to your question… the one about being reluctant to keep in touch with those you may have served with, but it’s well taken. I don’t want to listen to war stories either, but I visit this site because a lot of the views posted here are the same as mine and it’s good to know like-minded people are out there.
I also visit here because some of the comments and insults are damn funny… priceless works of written art (well, that and due to the fact that Jonn hasn’t banned me, so there’s that too).

It certainly seems that the probability of other criminal activity among the Stolen Valor cohort approaches 1.0.
