Richard Ojeda, WV Senate candidate attacked
Richard Ojeda, a retired Army engineer officer currently running for a seat in West Virginia’s Senate as a Democrat was viciously attacked from behind at a political rally yesterday. Initial reports were that his attacker, Jonathan Stuart Porter, used brass knuckles in the assault, but there isn’t any evidence of that now. From NBC News;
In an interview from his hospital room in Charleston, Ojeda, 45, a Democrat and military veteran whose primary contest is Tuesday, said he had been at a barbecue in the mountains about 60 miles southwest of Charleston when Porter asked for a bumper sticker.
Ojeda, who said he has known Porter since they were kids, placed one on the rear bumper of Porter’s truck. Then Porter asked for a second one on the vehicle’s front grill.
“That’s all I remember,” Ojeda said. “When I woke up, my head was on a tree stump covered in blood. Everyone was looking at me.”
The article continues that if it hadn’t been for witnesses, Porter would have run over Ojeda with his pick up as he fled the scene.
From his Facebook page;
The attack happened just two days before the Democrat party’s primary election.
Porter hid out for several hours before turning himself in to the police. Ojeda claims that the attack was motivated by politics.

If that attack was motivated purely by politics, can I introduce this Porter fellow to Shillery?
Word ^^^^
LMAO!!!
I don’t care who you are, that there is funny.
IT’S A PITY that Hillary Clinton didn’t marry OJ Simpson instead of “Blowjob Willie”.
Dose this have anything to do with the Democrats platform of shutting down the coal industry at all cost ?? just the thought
a and not the
Politics? Sounds more like some kind of jealousy going on. If they’d known each other for a long time, it’s more likely than politics.
Yeah.
Something is off about this.
What’s off, in my humble opinion, is a guy with a military history like all his awards and decorations indicate, running as a Democrat. Guy looks like a badass and is a member of Obama’s party?
Something wrong there…
It’s West Virginia. Don’t over-think it.
Besides, the state is in its multi-party infancy. It really is. Until oBaMa’s regime took over, there were only two parties in the state…Democrat and Democrat.
True. Kinda sad, but no less true.
I get it. I’ve never understood how you can be liberal or Democrat and be in the military. I’m not saying you can’t or shouldn’t, and I respect it, I’m saying I don’t understand it. Educate me. My last Platoon Leader in Iraq was prior enlisted, SFC, DS, liberal democrat. And just for the record, black. We spent a lot of late nights arguing and screaming at each other over politics and just had a hell of a lot of fun doing it. Only thing we agreed on politically was neither one of us wanted Obama in office and there was one other thing that involved Sara Palin but that’s so classified it may only exist on Hillary’s server.
My first thoughts exactly Ex-PH2.
Want to bet a women is or was involved. Bunch of crazy fuckers in WV, ooooopsie, doesn’t Jonn live there?
I think so, but I hear its all relative in West Virginia, so you’re good.
Actually, it isn’t “all relative” in West Virgina and that stereotype needs to be retired. What exactly do you get out of making a comment that implies the citizens of West Virgina are all committing such a vile taboo sin as incest? Did you snicker when you wrote that as you imagined other internet trolls slapping you on the back for your witty comment? Grow up.
It was on Ingram show and it has something to do with the Libs bragging about crushing coal jobs the guy told him his support of Billary was costing people there jobs
Whats the issue here? Its your average family weekend BBQ in West “By God” Virginia. Damn, Mom didn’t pull a knife and Pa didn’t load the blunderbuss with rock salt.
Jonn and Scotty go through this shit at every wedding.
Grew up deep in the mountains of North Carolina. If a fight didn’t have to be stopped at any family get together…it was usually a funeral.
Good thing we took our black eyes and bloody noses home after hugging each other and promising our undying love for family.
It’s a long drawn out story in my family that was 40 years in the making, but my great uncle John’s funeral resulted in a parking lot fight between the wife and eldest daughter of the dearly departed. Kicking scratching hair pulling a couple of really hard right hooks and my 12 year old self learned a few new words that day
Went to Walmart one weekend. I was cooking dutch oven shepherd’s pie, so I had a bag of potatoes. I was doing some roofing that weekend so there was a crowbar. The boy needed a new bat so that’s on the checkout line. And of course, I’m cooking and working so there’s 2 eight packs of Guinness draft. Checker looks it over and just says “Irish family reunion?”
I am stealing this one.
That’s the kind of attack one typically sees when someone is having an affair with the attacker’s wife, for example. In other words, domestic issues. If this is all politics, then it’s taking things to a level of violence not typically seen anymore.
Good call D. Someone’s getting porked here. I’m giving 3 to 1 on that call.
The only problem with that may be that he reportedly rabbit punched the guy and then drove over someone’s ATV. Even in WV, when you have a beef with someone, you generally whack ’em face to face and keep the focus there–unless you’re gonna shoot, in which case it doesn’t much matter. Unfortunately, cell-phone technology hasn’t reached Logan county yet, so we have no video. If this had occurred anywhere else, we would have had any number of viewing angles to watch.
And by the way, ATVs matter in WV. In fact, it’s dollars to donuts that’s the way this whole event is being passed about. “Hey, ya here what happened to Jake’s ATV?”
First officer that I have seen that actually wears a driver’s badge
There was an empty spot I guess?
Leftover from when he was enlisted. I’m guessing he hit E-5 before getting a direct commission, maybe E-6.
I’d have worn a weapons qual badge in place of the driver’s badge, but to each his own I guess.
The order of precedence dictates the marksmanship be kicked for the group 5 drivers badge. I thought I’d never have to read AR 670-1 again, damn you TAH.
Ok, now I’m thoroughly confused. D&M badge is group 5 and “must be worn”. May wear total 3 badges above rack, one group 1 or 2 and up to 3 from 3 or 4. Tabs are group 4 for fill in purposes only but don’t count against limit of 3 group 4 or 5 badges on pocket. Who the FUCK writes this shit.
LSS, could have worn marksmanship if so authorized. I think. AR 670dashgofuckyourself.
Direct commission to Engineer? I doubt it. Typically direct commissions are only handed out for lawyers, doctors, and chaplains, although I have heard of a farmer getting one to teach the peasants in Iraqistan to till the land properly. Could be purely anecdotal, though. My money is that he earned his commission through OCS or perhaps even through ROTC after finishing his contract. Given that I only see one good conduct medal, I’m guessing he might have gotten as high as E-5.
Reserve appointments branch typically does several direct appointments each year. If he had a degree and maybe a PE certification, they may have done one for him.
Interesting, did not know they did that for other branches as well. Thanks!
He was commissioned through the “Green-to-Gold” program the same as me. 2 years before me in fact.
Isn’t green to gold simply ROTC? IIRC, you’re a normal college student participating in ROTC, while being paid by the Army to attend school, right?
No, unless its changed. It may have, I do not know. This info I have is over 10 years old.
AD folks get tuition and I think a stipend but that is it. Housing, chow, and other expenses are on you.
The NG component gets SMP but they still have to drill with their respective units.
OCS folks get a year of degree completion in which they are paid but they are not ROTC.
There are several different scholarship types under the “Green-to-Gold” umbrella. I had a 2 year active duty G2G. I received full pay and allowances at my rank and my tuition and books were covered. But yes the program is run by ROTC.
Same thing here but I did not get paid.
He actually didn’t. he earned it through an Army ROTC program while obtaining his degree. You might want to look into that program. Loser
Damn I missed it
He has a drivers badge
Wonder if they had a route clearance mission
Or SECFOR on convoys
Earned it while enlisted most likely
If memory serves, OJ is a former 12B (Combat Engineer), commissioned through OCS as an Engineer Officer (now a 21A). He’s a good man who will fight for what is right, regardless his political inclination.
Heal up brother for the fight has just begun if you win the election…
LOGAN, W.Va. — Richard Ojeda was in a hospital bed on Sunday. Tuesday he was on the victory platform, having pulled off a stunning upset in the 7th State Senatorial District, defeating incumbent Art Kirkendoll (D-Logan).

Good for him, and hope he continues to fight the establishment. (Other articles indicated that he has been shining the light on local political corruption, and that is what was behind the attack.)
Nothing quite like having your face smashed to garner the sympathy vote.
