Raheel Siddiqui, Marine recruit dies

| March 21, 2016

The Beaufort Gazette reports the sad news that a Marine recruit, Raheel Siddiqui, of Taylor, Michigan has died during training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina has passed away during his first week of training.

Carroll declined to comment further on the circumstances of his death, as it is being examined by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Attempts to reach investigators were unsuccessful Sunday.

Recruit deaths are rare at the base. In recent years, a recruit died during a strength test in 2006, and in 2005, Jason Tharp died during his water survival test in a pool.

It is a dangerous business we trade in my friends.
RIP young man and thank you for your service.
You deserve all the honors of anyone that has died as a result of service to our country.

Rest in peace, young man. I hope his family somehow finds peace and comfort in this tragic loss.

Deceased a week into training… Damn shame.

RIP, young man.

I was stationed at Parris Island in ’68. There was less concern for the health of recruits and it is said that.some had died while I was there.

I was also told that others had died in ’67, but I wasn’t there and can’t confirm as much. I know of a lot of fat boys who were made to run until they couldn’t go any more. There were cases of hyperventilation. My observations can’t be confirmed and just got what the corpsmen said.

I was a dental technician and shared a barracks with corpsmen.

Shit happens. Had one keel over on a run in OSUT back in ’81. Had a congenital heart issue that only reared up on a run most of the way through training. Sucks but it happens.

Mike….Your right…Shit happens…Sad but true…People have to remember this is Marine Corps training….This isn’t the Boy Scouts….This isn’t summer camp….Thos is real shit. This is the toughest training there is. Both physically and mentally. If there was foul play, NCIS will find out because we also live in a society where there are far tpo many tattletales trying to get an atta-boy before they even get out of boot camp. Like I said, it’s a sad situation but ….SHIT HAPPENS!

It’s a sad thing. We had a young sergeant out on a PT test. He just dropped. Something with his heart. Best wishes for his family.

From my Ninjas on Parris Island. It would seem the recruit was still in his first week, clothing issue etc. and had not started training. My Ninja says that he committed suicide jumping out of a high barracks window. NCIS and CID have not made a confirmation of this, but my source has never been wrong. Sad, friends of him describe him as such a great kid, but all were surprised he joined the Military, “especially” the Marine Corps.
