Obama to Pentagon; defeat ISIS this year
Chief Tango sends us a link to an article at The Hill by our buddy, Kristina Wong in which she reports that Ashton Carter, the Defense Secretary, told reporters at a Politico event, that the President has told him that he wants ISIS defeated before Obama leaves office so the next president doesn’t have to deal with the problem;
“That’s what he said he wants. That’s what he told me and [Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford]. He said, ‘Get this done as soon as possible. I’d like to not leave this to my successor,’ ” Carter said Friday an event hosted by Politico.
He added that Obama called for the process to be accelerated last fall — about a year after the U.S. first began its counter-ISIS campaign.
The administration now has only nine months left, but Carter said he’s optimistic.
“I’m confident that we’ll do it. And we have an operational plan now,” he said.
Yeah, that’s all they have to do – want something to happen and it’s done. Of course, the way that they get muddled reports from the Pentagon on the prosecution of the war, the White House may believe that ISIS is defeated long before ISIS believes they’re defeated.
Meanwhile, another American servicemember has been killed during a rocket attack on a base in northern Iraq, according to AFP;
The latest fatality came after an indirect fire rocket attack on a base at Makhmur, CNN said, citing a US official and saying that a “small number” of other American troops were wounded in the attack.
It was not exactly clear how many and the Pentagon spokesman declined to give further details.

Hmmm, if memory serves me right, another Carter tried to do something before an Election Year…and failed…
oBaMa has been telling us for quite some time that he has a straetgy to defeat ISIS.Last year, he said that “the truth is the approach we are taking is one that is based on the best council, the best advice of our top military, top diplomatic teams.” Congress tried to nail him down on that wonderful strategy, recognizing that, despite the crap coming out of his mouth for public consumption, he had not laid out a strategy to defeat ISIS. So, within the FY17 Defense Authorization Act was placed a requirement that he submit his plan by 15 February 2016. The act is law, not a wish list, and the deadline was ignored. A week later, a critter reminded the WH of the compliance failure. Now we are told that oBaMa wants ISIS beaten forthwith, toot seet, and right away. Pardon my laughter…and my vomit.
If the a**hole had done his job right from the get-go, it would already be won. But he was in such a hurry to “pull out” that he didn’t think about that. Now, only when it’s too late to have an effect, does he begin to understand. Jerk! Can’t wait for him to be out of office.

So now he’s going to do what he has had little interest in doing for the past several years? Yeah, it makes a good sound bite on the Sunday morning ‘news’ shows, but is in reality a crock. He’s unlikely to do much more than he has done previously, which is a fraction of what America’s military is capable of doing. But it sure sounds great. And when he leaves office, he’ll frequently mention how he took down ISIS. Folks, I’ll be soooo happy when the adults are once more in charge.

The guy has spent 8 years creating problems for his successor to solve so is one more problem really going to make that much of a difference.

Funny… I was watching a documentary on the Battle of Britain today and they brought out how Hitler told Luftwaffe Commandant Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering to defeat Britain before the summer ended so the German army could invade Britain before winter came…
