Obama to spur gun sales

| January 2, 2016

According to Reuters, the President gave a radio address yesterday and his chosen subject was proposing more gun control;

Obama, in his weekly recorded address, said on Friday he has received “too many letters from parents, and teachers, and kids, to sit around and do nothing.”

[…]

Frustrated by Congress, Obama has vowed to use “whatever power this office holds” to put in place gun control measures.

“We know that we can’t stop every act of violence,” Obama said. “But what if we tried to stop even one? What if Congress did something – anything – to protect our kids from gun violence?”

Yep, “do something” – that’s reason enough to take rights away from Americans. Now, if you look back at the mass shootings that the media likes to point at as reasons to “do something” – the shooting of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, the Aurora, Colorado theater shooting, the school shooting in Connecticut, the church shooting in South Carolina, the on-air murder of news people in Virginia, and most recently, the San Bernadino terrorist attack none of those people should have been able to buy guns. The things that they did to get guns was either illegal already, or a failure of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS. In other words, if the President wanted to do something meaningful in regards to the use of guns in crimes, he’d fix the NICS system, something that he can actually accomplish with just an Executive Order. Something that him and his predecessors should have already done.

But, no, that wouldn’t make sense to the gun grabbers – it doesn’t take any rights from legitimate gun owners. If the President actually did do something that impacted gun violence, it wouldn’t get the gun grabbers any closer to their goal of taking all guns from all Americans. According to the Reuters article, the President had a meeting with gun grabbers to ask them how he could make them happy and it was their idea to close private sales, so the rumor is that the President wants to expand who will require a Federal Firearms License in order to transfer the ownership of firearms. To make more sales subjected to the NICS background checks – the NICS background checks which are designed, like TSA searches at the airport, to only make people *feel* safer – not actually make them any safer. if the intent of the NICS checks was to actually make us safer, the President would be focused on fixing the broken system instead of creating more work for the already broken system.

In many states the matter of practitioners reporting mental illness to be used in the NICS system is VOLUNTARY.

I can’t believe that it continues to be this way.

If you make it voluntary, then you’re essentially setting up a system with which to throw the practitioner under the bus if a patient decides to litigate. So, what practitioner wants to set themselves up for that?

sj

He always talks about the letters and emails he gets but he never mentions ones like mine. Maybe I shouldn’t use “Hey Asshole” as the salutation?

Blaster

But then how would you know if it was actually getting to HIM?

desert

Obozo is a lying, phony , son of a bitch! If he wants to stop violence, go after that evil bunch of sons of satan,, his buddies the muslimes, you know, the ones cutting babies heads off, burning them alive, stoning women, killing their children because they go to school, have a cell phone, or don’t wear a head scarf….obozo….STUFF IT IN YOUR LYING PHONY ASS!!!

Ex-PH2

Just let us know which companies (Winchester, Remington, etc.) get a sales bump out of this. Ammo will be next. You’ll have to swear on a stack of bibles, plus 15 copies of the Constitution, that you only intend to use ammo for hunting and/or target practice.

Casey

Seattle recently imposed a tax on ammo. 1 or 2 cents per round IIRC. Also a $25 per gun fee.

Another “Jim Crow” poll tax.

So after Obama closes the (non-existent) gun-show loophole, I wonder what the left will scream about next?

AW1Ed

A new Assault Rifle Ban, of course. My pal Steny and a hundred or so of his Dem House cronies already have it penned.

UpNorth

It’s already been marked up and sent to committee.

AW1Ed

Where hopefully it will die a well deserved death.

Ex-PH2

OK, but define an Assault Rifle, because I’ve never heard of or seen one.

That seems to be in the same category as a Combat Camera. I have yet to find a camera model that would actually qualify as a Combat Camera, and I’ve been looking. I might have to go back to the Civil War to find one, or possibly World War I.

AW1Ed

Actual definition:
“An assault rifle is a selective-fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine. Assault rifles were first used during World War II and by the end of the 20th century had become the standard service rifle for most of the world’s armies. Examples include the StG 44, AK-47 and the M16 rifle.”

Steny’s definition:
Any semi-automatic rifle that looks scary.

Ex-PH2

OK, so the color really does matter.

If it’s a camouflaged assault rifle, it’s obviously only for hunting defenseless animals, whereas if it’s a black rifle, it’s for going after peepuls, because GUNSSZZZ!

But if it’s pink, that should lower the side effects of use, shouldn’t it?

OWB

How’s about tying a rainbow of ribbons on a black gun? That should thoroughly confuse them.

Ex-PH2

I love that idea!

Wrap the handle in bright ribbons, hang a gold tassel from the trigger guard, put gold star stickers on the barrel – the possibilities are endless.

How many gun manufacturers sell stock to the public? Might be another good opportunity to buy in.

E-6 type, 1 ea

Smith & Wesson and Ruger are the only two gun manufacturers that offer stock, as far as I know. They’ve both been doing ok (Smith and Wesson has far outperformed Ruger) since I bought into them about this time in 2013. 🙂

David

Last I heard S&W was up 116% for 2015…. that’s better than most.

Ex-PH2

You might want to consider Taser, too, because the police are going to be given a mandate to use Tazers more than guns, because of that BLMatter thing.

GDContractor

It will be interesting to see what he comes up with given the constraints of interstate commerce and recent rulings on the 2nd A.

The Other Whitey

Since when has the Glorious Leader cared about the Law?

GDContractor

Yeah agreed. Could result in a court fight the governors could prevail in though. The notion of State Sovereignty seems to be on the rise. Twinkle toes is going to have to tiptoe through the tulips on this one, and from what I see, there’s not a whole lot of wiggle room.

Skippy

well I see lots of hot air here again, congress has never given the president the powers to do anything here,,,,, other then do what he does best. walk all over the constitution the only winning party’s here are the lawyers who will get everything overturned like its nothing…
there are areas that need to be fixed as far as firearms go and as the first comment above this statement makes complete sense… enforce current laws !!!!!!!!
WHY IS THIS SO HARD ?????

streetsweeper

Its so hard because they want to take them away from us.

Skippy

and that they do…
it’s becoming an obsession of the left. like healthcare on Roids

IDC SARC

Unfortunately “Enforce current laws” translates to the liberal ear into “promote illegal gun violence.”

It puts some of the problem back on the failure of leadership in this country and causes apoplexy in the sheeple. Which inevitably produces shouts of racism.

Sapper3307

I just found some .22 ammo at Walmart.
I guess it will be the last for a while now that the panic buying is on again.

UpNorth

Actually, the local Walmarts get an allowance of ammo from Bentonville, Ar, via the distribution centers. They can try to order particular ammo, but the final decision on who gets what is made by a marketing “genius” in his cubicle at the HQ.

E-6 type, 1 ea

Try Academy Sports. I was there a few weeks ago and they had bricks of .22lr for $28 each. Thats by FAR the cheapest I’ve seen it in a LONG time.

Jarhead

Bammy & Co. acting as Big Bro. are and always will be incompetent in accomplishing anything. Get the hell out of the way and allow the PUBLIC at large to address and fix the problem. In other words, allow the NRA and its best advocates to form a panel to create a legitimate solution. Gub. will NEVER be able to create any sort of plan to solve problems. Their ultimate goal will be to remove weapons from law abiding citizens slowly but surely. Only a fool with eyes closed can not see this coming. Only a fool with brain deficit will even consider going along with any ideas on gun control created by politicians in general. Gun CONTROL is the ultimate device they seek. Without weapons to defend ourselves we become the puppets they wish to have cowering under bed sheets. We must take the lead to see to it weapons can ALWAYS be held by law abiding citizens. Those of us who have some age, experience, and have served our country are the biggest threat to those who wish to control. Don’t ever kid yourself it is anything other than this.

Pinto Nag

Unfortunately, more and more people are willing to give up their freedoms for some kind of murky ‘protection.’ They WANT the government to ‘do something’ so they don’t have to be bothered. They want the bad guns and the bad people to go away, and they really don’t care how that happens. I work with a shining example of that. She will make a general statement of how bad things are, and then tack on the end of it: “… and the gun control thing.” When I ask her what she’d like done along the line of gun control, her answer is usually: “Well, they need to…the thing is…people shouldn’t…you know, there’s too many GUNS…” No idea what she’s talking about, and not even a clue how to achieve what she thinks she wants.

Our rights and freedoms aren’t going to go out with a bang, they’re going to go out with a whimper — just like the one I quoted above.

Again, another post with no picture. Look Jonn, some of us just come here for the pictures. This is not Playboy where we expect riveting commentary.

Where is the scary black gun or the beat up 1911 you are so fond of?

Reading gives me eye strain.

My guess is we’re going to see a “crackdown” on “unlicensed gun dealers.”

As Orwellian NewSpeak, “Unlicensed Gun Dealers” is right up there with “gun show loophole.”

There is, of course, no such thing as an “unlicensed gun dealer. There are only licensed gun dealers and Private Citizens who are, of course, free to alienate (i.e. to buy, sell or trade) their privately owned property as they see fit, subject to state laws (here in CO, for example, all gun sales have to be conducted through a dealer, but not all states have that law.)

But “Unlicensed Gun Dealer” has that “OOH -SCARY!” kind of sound that gun grabbers love to use.

Martinjmpr

Elaborating a bit, my assumption is that Obama will have his DoJ draft some kind of “rule” that says that any private seller who sells more than X number of guns in Y period of time qualifies as a “gun dealer” and therefore must be licensed.

That enforcing such a law would be, for all practical purposes, impossible is irrelevant.

Because the purpose of the rule would not be to prevent illegal gun sales (which it would not do) it would be to allow Obama political “cover” so that the next time there’s a “mass shooting” (as defined by the news media), Obama can shrug his shoulders and say “Not My Fault” and point across the mall to Congress, and thus demonstrating the quality of political leadership he has come to be known for.

Miles

Before the Klintoon administration, the ATF tried to get almost everyone they could to obtain a FFL. Then we had the problem of *gasp* “Kitchen Table Dealers!”

During the Klintoon administration, ATF went on a reverse spree, trying to force as many licensees as possible, turn them in.

Also, ATF has used the vague definition of “in the business” as a club to prosecute for dealing “without a license”, whoever got on their radar.

There never has been a definite number of gun sales that ATF used a yardstick for prosecution, and the US attorneys liked it that way. Selective Enforcement.

If Obamessiah issues an edict mandating a definite number of sales requires a FFL, ATF Will Have A Cow, and I’ve bet they’ve brought that to his personal attention. Not that “O” gives a damn what they think of it.

And there will be people flaunting the law by “openly” selling one (1) gun less than whateverthehell that number is.

Another way to play this game is set forth on the Zelman Partisans blog
“malicious compliance”.

Texas gov. Greg Abbott tweeted @ Obama “Come and take it”. I just love being a Texan.

Old Trooper

Here in Minnesota, if you have your carry permit, you can carry either concealed or open. It has been like that since the law was changed from “may issue” to “shall issue” and I heard all the arguments about Wild West shootouts in the streets, etc. from all the whiners, at the time that the carry law was being changed, and I argued that they were engaging in unfounded hyperbole. They asked me how I knew it wouldn’t happen that way and I explained that I had historical record on my side. I explained that what they described hasn’t happened in any state that was currently “shall issue” and that if they wanted to make the claims to the contrary, they had better have data to back it up, which, of course, they didn’t, but it didn’t stop them from being complete hoplophobes.

On a personal note: I don’t open carry. I prefer to conceal carry so that the bad guys don’t know to take me out first. I don’t care if someone else decides to open carry, that’s their business and doesn’t bother me. Of course, I don’t get the vapors from just seeing a gun, either, like so many limp-wristed, gutless, whiners, who pass on their own hoplophobia to their offspring and expect the rest of us to share in their fears and if we don’t, then we’re the problem, not them. Same goes for the gun grabbers and this administration; they claim all sorts of things that just aren’t so and then design restrictions based on those fictitious scenarios so that they make themselves, but no one else, feel better. Because, remember; it’s all about them and their “feelings”, which are far more important than your rights.

IDC SARC

In God We Trust: All others must submit data.

Ex-PH2

Did you ever get the urge to hide around a corner when you see them coming, and then jump out and yell ‘Ice Cream!’ as loud as possible?

Maybe the thing to do with the whiners is not argue, but invite them for a test run at a shooting range, or go hunting for pheasant, deer and quail and invite them to dinner.

The real problem is that they don’t want the truth. They want to wallow in their delusions. It’s difficult to overcome that mindset.

GDContractor

JAOD- tell me about it. This is cut/paste from facebook…from a dumb broad in my neighborhood who is a “real estate professional”:

“Many more than smart people I’ve learned. And reinforced that thought in the past 24 hours on this page. Especially the ones underage and/or who apparently don’t know American history or why the second amendment is no longer valid. “A well formed militia” is not a couple of guys with their o/c guns walking around showing off “because they can”. Well I can jump off a building but I’m not going to. If you can drink a whole bottle of bourbon just because “you can” doesn’t mean you won’t have consequences. That’s where people are so stupid. ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES….. However some never learn that. But I digress. I’m NOT getting pulled down that road AGAIN !!”

Subsequent to that comment, I was not kind.

GDContractor

Sorry, I meant as reply to Old Trooper.

David

to paraphrase Mr. Segall: “What the hell kind of babbling bullshit was that?”

It’s currently day 3 of the open Carry Apocalypse here in Texas… somehow blood does not seem to be freely running down the streets and the promised Wild West shootouts haven’t happened. Dear me, I can’t imagine what is delaying them.

The President MUST be holding stocks and other investments in the firearms manufacturing industry.

Everytime he opens his yap about ‘gun control’, gun and ammo sales spike.

I noticed this on Saturday when I was standing in a very long line, at my local gun shop, waiting to purchase more guns and ammo.

I wonder if there is a correlation?

But what do I know …
