Millis, MA officer kills himself
A few weeks ago, we talked about Millis, Massachusetts police officer Bryan Johnson, even though we didn’t know his name at the time. He shot up his patrol car and crashed it before setting it on fire, claiming to the department that he had been attacked.
Chip sends us a link to Fox News which reports that Johnson has killed himself instead of facing the music;
Johnson, a former part-time officer in Millis, Mass., was indicted Nov. 19 on six charges, including willful communication of a bomb threat to a school, making a false police report, malicious destruction of property and unlawful discharge of a firearm. He had pleaded not guilty in district court and was free on bail.
The district attorney’s office said that in light of Johnson’s death, it no longer would pursue the case. Johnson faced up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the school bomb threat alone.
That’s a lot of bad choices for one life time.

Sounds like this guy needed a serious psych eval before being hired.
Probably well before that. I can’t believe he wasn’t displaying some signs of aberrant behavior long before that.
While it saddens me that a person felt no other option than to take their lives, I’m really having a hard time feeling sorry for the guy. His circumstances were there of his own making. His family and friends, OTOH, have my thoughts and prayers.
I am guessing since he committed suicide and wasn’t sentenced yet. Some kind of pension will go to the family. He was about to become a full time officer. So he was in pretty deep at this point. Went from Dispatcher –> Part time –> near Full Time in training.
So they had multiple times to check this guy out.
Logic is generally missing from the daily decisions and actions of those that are psychologically challenged….as demonstrated by the former officer noted in this story.
Suicide is the most sincere form of self-criticism.
I’m sure the Dutch Rudder Club will blame you for this. I’m sure the deceased never even heard of this site.
Grief and tears NOW are not going to replace the much-needed psychiatric help needed THEN by this guy. Unfortunate as it is for his family and friends, it could have easily been a LOT worse later on had he succeeded in duping the public with his last actions/call for help. The shame and embarrassment of getting caught, coupled with a likely prison sentence was probably more than any unbalanced individual could handle. “People Are Crazy” don’t we all know?
