Leonard Wright; phony POW, phony Vietnam War veteran
Someone sent us this guy, Leonard Wright, who founded Project Freedom Ranch. As you can see from the picture, he claims to have been a member of the 1st Cavalry Division. Here’s his bio from the organization’s website;
Unfortunately, he has recently changed that bio before I could get a screen shot (but then Mary found one). It used to read like this;
Len has been a resident of West Palm Beach Florida for the past 30 years. He is currently retired; former owner of Executive Limousines of the Palm Beaches. Len was Educated at Moody Bible Institute, graduating 1961. He served in the US Army, 1962-1965. He was captured, & tortured for 11 days in Vietnam; prior to being rescued by the 3rd Div. Marine Corps. Len continued his education at Columbia International University, Columbia, SC. 1971, BA degree and then Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Masters Degree.1973. He is a cancer survivor. 20 year member of Christ Fellowship Church in Palm Beach Gardens and currently active in children’s ministry there. His love for others and desire to see healing of fellow soldiers has led him to making this dream a reality. The story of how this dream is coming into a reality is that of which movies are made… stay tuned!
He did serve in the Army from 1962-1965. He was a chaplain’s assistant in the 611th Aircraft Maintenance Battalion in the 11th Airborne Division when they were at Fort Benning, Georgia. That division reorganized and became the 1st Cavalry Division on June 29th, 1965 and deployed to Vietnam in August, but by that time, Ol’ Len here was in the 197th Infantry Brigade at their Headquarters Company, still at Fort Benning, GA, so he wasn’t in the 1st Cav Division, and he didn’t become a POW of the North Vietnamese and he wasn’t tortured for 11 days, except by the knowledge that he didn’t deploy with the 1st Cav. Len left the Army in October, 1965. His records;
So, his bio doesn’t say that he’s a POW now, and I just want to keep it that way. He should have no problem with that.

Maybe what he really meant was that he was “captured” by a bunch of Marines after drunkenly insulting them in a bar, and then was “tortured” to sing the Marine Corps Hymn before they would “liberate” him…
That would be Marine’s Hymn, not Marine Corps Hymn.
From a doggie to a jarhead: I stand corrected 🙂
Since when do Marines know how to spell? 😉
For completeness, the DPAA Vietnam POW Lists may be found at the following link:
http://www.dpaa.mil/OurMissing/VietnamWar/VietnamWarPOWMIAList.aspx
This j-hole isn’t on any of those lists. The only individual with the last name “Wright” to survive captivity in Vietnam and return alive was Buddy Wright – who indeed escaped from captivity after being held 15 days in South Vietnam. But that happened in 1968 – or about 3 years after this LSoS left active duty.
Screw this old bastard.
Florida. Yet again.
You’re on a Monday roll, Jonn!
Word.
And yet another one. And it is still early.
I imagne that All-Points Logistics may need a chaplain….
I guess that the mail man dropped off a bunch of your FOIA requests on Saturday.
I’ve been sitting on them since Thursday night. I have some more that didn’t make the cut.
Curious: what defines the cut? Guessing err on the side of caution that they might be legit?
I have to prove to myself that they intentionally lied about their service.
It’s best to leave a bit of a gap between the poser releases. This gives us the opportunity to give each individual the recognition they want and deserve.
Hack, was that TAH sekrit skwirrl code for “giving them the love and honor that they deserve”?
I didn’t think you were one of those “sensitive, New Age guys” that I’ve read about…
😉
I knew there was a Floridian around here somewhere.. flush a good service record down the toilet,
times two today.. 🙁 WTF is wrong !!!!!!!
you served that’s more then 95 percent of the population we’ll ever do…
The dude looks like he could slurp himself down some Cream of Sum Yung Guy soup… probably learned to love it while a “POW”.

Always loved that nick-name. Thanks for the smile.
I spent a little time in the 197th back in 1974.
HHC, 3/7 Inf on Kelly Hill. My older brother was just across the street in the 547th Med Company. We shared an apartment over in Phenix City and went to the Eastern Alabama Motor Speedway and threw beer bottles at the stock car drivers on Saturday nights.
Good times.
An SP5 Chaplain’s Assistant, how stellar!
And you know those Chaplain’s Assistants would NEVER, EVER lie about anything.
I’m sure his Padres are real proud of him.
But he did lie, so no TS Slip is authorized.
Aw, man! I was all ready to tell folks at the Golden Corral that Santa was with the Cav. This is depressing. Agonizing reappraisal.
And he was with the god squad, to boot.
Musta backslid.
No real Cav Trooper would wear that dime store knock off of a Stetson.
Word ,^^^^ from a Cav guy that never went to the sand box as a Cav solider 🙁
Damn but I was in a Cav unit 🙂
before I forget TOUJOURS PRET… 2 CR
My Army son is a 2nd ACR vet.
His time frame was 88-90 in Germany.
I don’t have a stetson, just the spurs. I should get a Stetson.
The number of P.O.W, is even starting to worry the North Vietnams. They didn’t know how many secret camps they had or how many P.O.W’s were in them. Poor Administration on their part. Getting fed up with these Bull Shit Spreaders. They should do real time for their lies.
