Clock boy
Last week, 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed brought what he said was a clock to school. It was a clock, but it inside a briefcase, and it was just parts from a commercially-available clock that the youngster dismantled and reassembled. The teacher thought that it looked a little bit like a timing device for a bomb, so she sent him to the principal’s office where the police took him into custody.
His father, an Islamic activist, says that he was arrested because he’s a Muslim, according to ABC News;
“He just wants to invent good things for mankind,” Ahmed’s father, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, told the Morning News. “But because his name is Mohamed and because of Sept. 11, I think my son got mistreated.”
The Council on American-Islamic Relations is reviewing the matter.
“This all raises a red flag for us: how Irving’s government entities are operating in the current climate,” said Alia Salem, executive director of the council’s North Texas chapter.
So, young Ahmed is headed to a root beer summit at the White House because we feel guilty that the fear of Islamic terrorism has us saying something when we see something. Yeah. I’m not apologizing. If I saw anyone with a device like that on the commuter train, I’d signal law enforcement, regardless of who was carrying it.
If a bunch of female soldiers can take a picture of themselves breastfeeding to “desensitize” us to the sight, it makes sense that terrorists would be licking their lips at thought of “desensitizing” us to the sight of youngsters carrying things that look like bombs.
Our buddy, Jim Hanson, recently, Uncle Jimbo of Blackfive fame, was on Glen Beck’s program yesterday talking about the incident;

I agree. WTH kind of school are they running? The kid carries what appears to be–and may well be for all anyone knows at the time–a bomb ONTO a school parking lot, INTO the school building, and walks around the school’s hallways with it! He then ENTERS a classroom and displays the suspicious (on its face) case containing the device! This is insanity. If only the lad had put a confederate battle flag sticker on that device, he would never had made it near that school!
Something tells me that the father made him go into the school to “make a point…”
I believe you are correct. This entire thing smells to high heaven.
No such thing as coincidence…
I think this was a mooslime test to see if they could get a bomb into the school…it all smells like camel to me! Who in hell wants a clock in a briefcase? this is more islamic bullshyt!
One thing to remember is that the clock wasn’t in a briefcase, but in a pencil case made to look like a little briefcase. It’s difficult to tell from the photos, but it’s about 8.25″ x 5.5″ x 2.5″
Given that it’s a pencil case, it’s not too surprising that nobody noticed anything until he opened it up.
I agree with Static-line and others who say it’s a planned provocative act. Next thing they’ll be yelling “Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system” and “did you see him repressing me, you saw it didn’t you?”
what the hell are you talking about? its in a frigging BRIEFCASE DILDO!
Please do a little research before you insult me. The size of the pencil case, as well as the fact that it is a pencil case, has been frequently reported. The size has also been frequently reported. The details are not that hard to find.
You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. Sorry.
It’s always about size…
Any other kid can get suspended or expelled for drawing a gun or pointing their finger and yelling “POW!” during recess, let alone the kid suspended for chewing a pop tart into the shape of a gun, but the liberal media goes into a preaching white guilt mode over a muslim kid’s halfassed science project which DID resemble a bomb. Now comes the victim card, and we know how that automatically turns one into an extra-special snowflake!
Anyone offended by my view can just SUE ME, and if you get anything I just might split it with you (Mighty liberal of me, ain’t it?)!
A kid was suspended from school by “an administrator” for wearing a tee shirt with a flag on it. The flag was the Stars and Stripes. The principal rescinded the suspension. We have a president who has spent more time on Twatter/Tweeter/Whatever commenting on shit that is none of his damn business than he has spent in intel briefings. I need me more WalMart smiley faces. And I needs them bad.
I think the “root beer summit” at the WH is appropriate. After all, the kid didn’t really put forth any effort in building a clock. He just gutted one and put a bunch of crap on it. Sort of like the president winning the Nobel Peace Prize. He didn’t really do anything either. Peas… pod… that sort of thing. /sarc/
(BTW, it’s a Class A misdemeanor in TX to build a hoax explosive, so there’s that too).
Except there wasn’t any hoax explosive in the device, just parts of a clock so there’s that too….which is why the kid was released…
Non-story on all fronts.
Actually three were suspended on the same day that it was a Mexican pride day and many kids were wearing Mexican flag shirts and gear.
Because the principussy was afraid their US pride would “offend” Mexicans and cause violence.
I bought a awesome T-shirt for a female elementary school students to wear. Not one adult has identified the guns on the front or back of the shirt. Friends have and not one ratted her out.
Just because someone wears a shirt that displays guns or other lethal weapons doesn’t mean they’re violent. It’s not coming off the damn shirt.
As for clock boy, I don’t think he’s the one who thought of making the clock. I think dad had the idea and probably thought they wouldn’t catch it. The teacher was right in contacting the principal, etc. As for Dad, I’d be watching his butt more closely after this.
I absolutely think there are more terrorists in America that have been good citizens until the day they get a phone call. ITS TIME TO PLAY SOCCER ⚽
The real problem are the zero tolerance rules put in place by the liberals “to protect the children.” In this case however, one of their protected classes got caught up in their own insane rules. So, they blow up (pun intended) the whole situation to fit their narrative (poor muslim boy…) to throw off any attention on the rules themselves.
Guys, guys….YOU’RE MISSING THE POINT HERE!!!!!
OK, Fine, I’ll do it…..

Please take the time to view the video. There is something going on.
Just more proof that Air Force chicks are hotter, especially with a boob out…
Wow-nothing quite says martial ardor like bewbs.
Well the part that is interesting to me is that this kid showed the clock to what he calls his science/engineering teacher, that teacher tells young Ahmed that it’s a really cool rework but not to show it to anyone else….
When the clock beeps later in an English class that teacher, unaware of the previous teacher’s knowledge of the device, calls the police which is appropriate.
Where this story goes off the rails is the simple acknowledgement by the cops that they knew it wasn’t a bomb prior to handcuffing the nerd….they arrested him for having a hoax device then released and didn’t charge him, but if the teacher who first saw it knew it to be a simple clock this could have been handled differently from that first moment it was shown openly by the student to his science/engineering teacher. The nerd wanted his science/engineering teacher to see how smart he was and was showing off with this invention….the science/engineering teacher knew it was something no one else would understand which is why he offered the advice not to show it to anyone else. That teacher in my opinion failed to properly handle this incident. Had that teacher taken care of it immediately nobody even hears about this horse shit non-story.
The kid openly showed a teacher, he didn’t hide it, he didn’t pretend it was anything but a clock. Even the cops admit they knew it wasn’t dangerous, they covered their handcuffing the kid with the idea of a ‘hoax” even though they admit they knew it wasn’t a hoax device as well.
Bullshit non-story…
Exactly.
VOV. The crime for which he was cuffed was carrying a hoax bomb, not a suspected actual bomb. The police probably ‘unarrested’ him after consultation with a prosecutor, who also probably recognized the political hot potato at hand. As for the first teacher, what was he or she to do, make an announcement? “ATTENTION. May I have your attention, please? One of our students is carrying what might appear to some of you to be a bomb. I can assure you that it is not. Thank you.”
The first teacher could have told Ahmed he would hold the device until the end of the school day…I built stuff as a student as well and when I brought it in my teacher could hold it until I was in that class later in the day…this was back in the day when I also had a rifle hanging from a rack in my truck in the school parking lot though so who knows…
My point about the cops was simple, the cops have since admitted they knew it wasn’t dangerous and knew it wasn’t a hoax. The governor has stated the cops acted a little over zealously in this instance…
Much ado about nothing this time….maybe next time we can have a feeding frenzy about a nerdy kid with a timing device.
I concur. Molehill has been enabled to be a Mountain.
Thanks, Chip. I feel more secure now. And hey, you are the video master. I just saw a new Army commercial that flashes through pic of individual soldiers and talks about the Army effecting change. The pics reflect what the Pentagon would like the Army to be, not what it is, by racial and gender composition. For my money, it’s false advertising (the Army is 75% White) and includes some older Asian lady in a helmet who looks like she has stitched eyelashes. It’s a hoot. Can you find it? I can’t.
I believe it’s this…..
2015 U.S. Army “Never Stop” commercial…
Yep. The ‘hidden message’ begins at 30 seconds or so. I think it’s about 13 women and minorities and 3 white males in the pic flashes. Thanks.
White devil’s check your privilege.
I did, it’s right here in my pocket.
“Pardon me while I whip this out.”
WTH INSTINCT! NO PICTURE TO SHARE WITH THE LADIES or was I mistaken ?
This is much more than just a play o clock or that he is Muslim… nThat school even has a very small % of white kids. so please listen to the video and what the major has to say.
Was he unfairly targeted? Maybe. But what is the saying about an ounce of prevention?
What bothers me here is the response of the Irving PD and the School Liaison officer. If they feared it was a bomb, they should have gone full bore and evaced the school and called the bomb squad to investigate. The teacher did as he/she was taught and raised the alarm…and the PD, to the best of my knowledge, locked the kid up and threw the clock into a squad and drove off. I am no bomb tech, but I have supported them enough to know that isn’t normal protocol.
Irving PD screwed the pooch several different ways on this. Had they offered a tacit apology (Along the lines of “We were called out to investigate a suspect device that turned out to be a kids science experiment. We regret the confusion caused by our investigation, but rest assured the safety of the public was never at risk and remains our highest priority…”) and avoided the media the kid would have never been invited to the White House and the whole thing could have been nipped in the bud.
So tired of all the automatic divisions caused by talking heads on both sides…
Looks like every picture of a bomb I ever saw. But what do I know?
Don’t clocks have faces?
They do if one is pretending, as so many lefty pundits and comedians are, that the kid had an old-fashioned clock with hands.
The large red strip at the top of the pencil case is the face, it’s a giant digital clock with a large face…
Here’s an explanation of what you’re looking at.
This is a print version of the video that shows the clock’s original configuration.
http://conservativepost.com/a-real-engineer-reviewed-ahmeds-clock-and-found-this-shocking-truth-nobody-wants-to-talk-about/
That’s good stuff, CC Senor. The twit is a fraud. He invented nothing. He created nothing. He built nothing. He deconstructed a vintage digital alarm clock, separated its components from their plastic case, and screwed them into a store-bought case. It wasn’t even imaginative, let alone original. Want to bet he gets an A+ and a scholarship offer from Microsoft or Apple?
If the kid (and his father) were so interested in “inventing good things for mankind”, the little clock assembler could have invented a miniature man-portable explosives detector.
He could have tested it out at a CAIR meeting!
Or a 72 virgin verifier!
Yeah, but he didn’t invent anything, Master Chief, other than a Coke bottle full of smoke.
Good idea! To test it he could have simply duct-taped a few road flares to “his” clock.
Lucky he didn’t get popped by an SRO.
Thanks Jonn. I don’t watch or read much from Beck as a rule, and the points made in this video were already clear to those actually paying attention. Still it is/was worth high-lighting until enough people open their eyes and react.
Plus it was good to see UJ – although I need to call him and remind him about camera angles and such. I dunno how many times they had his bald patch in the center of the picture. May well be yet another conspiracy. [grin]
All things considered, the English Teacher needs to be fired for one of two reasons.
1) He thought it was a bomb. He allowed the kid to keep it in his possession, go to the office with it, and didn’t immediately activate the school’s bomb threat plan.
2) He did not think it was a bomb. He singled the student out because of his race/religion and showed that he was biased against the student.
Also, according to the school, the police questioned the student and arrested him because he couldn’t adequately explain anything more about it besides it was a clock.
Oh, and the way the father heard that his son was being arrested was because a secretary called him on her cell phone. Nothing from the school, nothing from the police.
Hoax device that EVERYONE knew wasn’t a bomb? I’m sorry, but all of the evidence is point to two simple things. The boy is a numbskull for bringing it to school, the cops/school are numbskulls for treating it as an actual bomb without treating it as an actual bomb.
What happened to:
3) He did not think it was a bomb BUT THAT IT LOOKED LIKE ONE AND WAS AFRAID IT WOULD BE PERCEIVED BY OTHERS TO BE REAL SO HE DID NOT PANIC THE SCHOOL BUT TOOK THE MATTER TO THE ADMINISTRATORS.
Yeah, I’m going with 3.
It doesn’t work that way. Down that path lays a HUGE lawsuit by the parents of the student who was suspended as well as the parents whose children were placed in mortal danger because the untrained teacher decided it wasn’t a bomb.
Remember, this student had the same punishment as a child who chewed his poptart into the shape of a gun. In that case, the teacher immediately took it away from the student to protect other students (because the poptart might have been loaded). In this case, the student was sent to the office with the clock.
What? Huh? No, the other students can’t sue for what MIGHT have happened if blah, blah, blah.
As for Ahmed, his Daddy will be filing suit in 3,2…
Here’s a young man who gives me hope… Ahmed, his Daddy, and CAIR give me gas.
Wow. That young man has a solid head on his shoulders. I hope he lives a very long and productive life. We need more like HIM.
This was a ridiculous overreaction. The kid actually showed his engineering teacher the clock earlier in the day. It was built from components of a disassembled alarm clock or clocks, it’s in a small case about the size of a lunchbox (http://www.amazon.com/Vaultz-Locking-Pencil-Inches-VZ01479/dp/B001BXZ28K) and there was absolutely no indication of an explosive component. He explained to the teacher that he had built a clock. The teacher recognized it as a clock, because it was a clock. Later on a different teacher who obviously watches lots of movies panicked over it, but nobody else thought it was a bomb. The school wasn’t evacuated, and as far as I can tell not even the classroom was evacuated. Because it wasn’t a bomb, didn’t look like a real bomb, and the kid never said or acted like it was a bomb.
Besides that, in what historical bomb plot did one of the bombers bring a device to a possible intended target and show it to his potential victims? How would it benefit this kid to put himself on everyone’s radar as a potential bomber? Bombers don’t “desensitize” people to the presence of bombs, they build a fucking bomb, hide it and blow people up.
This bullshit is as stupid as the arrest of the two nerds in Boston in 2007 for putting up LED cartoon character symbols. The same thing happened in that incident: people who knew jack and shit about bombs saw the symbols, panicked, and police made stupid arrests because people who knew nothing got scared over nothing.
Agreed there was a cascade of ridiculous over reactions, and it was absolutely wrong to handcuff the kid. That said, if it were some random kid (Muslim or not), and not the son of a politician and professional attention seeker I’d be more likely to believe that’s all it was. This was brilliant theater and political ju-jitsu, and the usual useful idiots in politics and news media are playing their parts to perfection. Also agreed that there is no benefit to Ahmed Mohamed to “put himself on everyone’s radar.” That’s not what this is about. This is about cementing victimhood status. “I was worried because I’m brown and Muslim.” For those who think this is a dry run to “test whether you can bring a bomb into school” it’s not that either. In the words of a great (literally, not figuratively) American, “That’s retarded.” Most schools, sure you can, for values of “bomb.” This is about making people afraid to question anything you do, it’s about extending boundaries as to what’s allowed, or rather ignored because of fears of looking “racist” or “Islamophobic” or whatever. These days it’s not “See something, say something.” It’s “See something? Think really hard about whether you want to risk your job and career if it’s a member of a protected group doing the Something.” In his Schrodinger’s Cat novels the late Robert Anton Wilson wrote about a guy who painted “International Cocaine Importers, Lima and Sausalito: Things Go Better With Coke” (or something like that) in tasteful letters on a van and drove it around San Francisco. In the book the cops stop the guy of course, but the van is clean. After several weeks of looking like idiots the cops cease stopping him. Soon fleets of vans marked “Cocaine Importers” are on the streets, and no one knows which if any are actually carrying drugs. Now you’d know better than I whether it’s legal to drive around a vehicle with such a sign, and how real police would respond, but that’s not the point of the story. On another note, if a 14-yo… Read more »
“Whoa! It looks like a bomb. What is it?”
“It’s a clock, Dad?”
“Really? You made that?”
“Well, sorta. I took a real clock, pulled it apart, and then I put it in that case. Cool, huh?”
“Son, maybe I ought to call the school first, maybe speak with your teacher or the principal? Or…or…tell you what, son, you go ahead. Take it to school. Nice job! You should get an A!”
(Son leaves room.) “Hello? Is this the CAIR office? Get ready for this….My son will be in school tomorrow with a science project and….”
You didn’t build that.
LOL.
Ya beat me to it.
Perfect!
When this ‘news’ first broke, and I saw that thing, my first thought was ‘Are you kidding me? This sure does look like a ploy for attention and a chance to whine.’ And why would a kid take something that even vaguely resembles a bomb setup to school with him? I thought it was a set up of some kind, and I was right.
That was before the kid went with “they’re all pickin’ on me”. The minute that came up on the news, my suspicions were confirmed, even more so by this Beck interview.
The unfortunate part about this is that playing victim only works so well if the bad stuff doesn’t generate a reality check. This had holes in it from the start. Will it continue to backfire? Yeah, but not on Irving, TX, and not on the people who did things by the book.
Is there any way to deport these thugs?
When I was a kid I used to take things apart all the time too, though I wasn’t as good at putting them back together.
Whether he was white, black, hispanic, chinese, etc., and he showed up with that I would be concerned WTH it was.
When he goes to the white house and tells the secret service “this is my clock!” do you really think they aren’t going to open it up, look inside, check it out to confirm it is just a clock? Or will they just let him walk through to see Barry in the rose garden?
I say that his dad “enabled” him to do this knowing full well it would cause concern. As I recall, CAIR is an equivocal organization to Al Sharpton’s band and even the Rainbow Coalition of Jackson. #1 effort is to sensationalize, #2 is helping improve relations, if it doesn’t interfere with #1.
Yep, and they do that while playing the race and victim cards to the Nth degree!
You all know that story about the boy who cried ‘Wolf!’, right? And what happened to him when he did it too often?
This is once.
That has got to be the shittiest clock (or bomb for that matter) that I have ever seen! I could eat an electric clock and shit one out that looked waaaaay better than that. WTF, did he tear one apart and then try to put it back to gether blindfolded? No child left behind policy rearing it’s ugly head again. If I put something together as crappy as that I would expect to be hancuffed too.
You know what’s so stupid about this?
I work at a military base as a civilian contractor. I have a gadget on my wrist which is full of suspicious parts that could be used to make a bomb. All those little gears and springs.
What is this device, you ask? Here’s a hint: It’s labeled SANDOZ AUTOMATIC 25 JEWELS SAPPHIRE SWISS. Still think it’s a threat to security? ;o)
Give the watch to Ahmed. He’ll take out the jewels and install a chain drive.
The same that the school had a suspicious device in it. The entire Whitehouse was locked down because a suspicious object was seen on the sidewalk. Who over reacted the school or the Secret Service?
sorry!
The same week
Saturday evening, oBaMa had to leave the White House to take a ride to meet with the Congressional Black Caucus. So, the Secret Service and Park Police cleared Lafayette Park of the riffraff– the hundreds of parents and their kids with cancer who were there for the Curefest for Childhood Cancer. The Secret Service later apologized. oBaMa did not. Nor, for some reason, did he Tweet about this or invite a few of the kids into the White House for a soda.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/social-issues/cancer-stricken-children-and-their-parents-ejected-from-park-near-white-house/2015/09/20/416665a4-5fd5-11e5-9757-e49273f05f65_story.html
There’s a simple explanation for that, 2/17. He didn’t read in the newspaper(where he learns about everything) that there were any Muslim children in the park. Therefore, no invites.
Or gay kids.
…or kids struggling with their sexual identity.
I can’t tell you how awesome it would be if his clock blew up at the White House.
Clocks don’t blow up.
No, not by themselves, but they ARE sometimes used to make stuff go *BOOM!* at a certain time, pookums!
And they’re sometimes used to make hoax or fake bombs, which can be used to cause unnecessary responses from LE and other emergency personnel – or to shut down commercial enterprises, transportation centers, etc . . . . Texas law takes a dim view of creating or possessing such devices.
Bicycles, motorcycles, cars, and pressure-cookers don’t blow up either, yet I’ve personally seen all do precisely that.
And you were an adult. So less excuse. Yet you were not detained or treated like a threat to national security.
So why the rabid desire to vilify this kid on this board but not you?
That last post was intended to be for a lower post. Apparently if you have two open replies it can post to the wrong one.
This whole thing is nonsense. The school and the police acted idiotically. And the image of the clock is useless because it was taken at the police station after the police dismantled the thing. It does not even show the clock face which apparently was visible from the outside.
You meant to say “The police acted stupidly.” Standard
propagandapolicy from the Obama administration. The point is that the kid didn’t build a damn thing; he just stuffed clock guts into a pencil case. I would BTW be very interested in seeing an image of said clock face.
You’re ignoring the facts that his sister threatened to bomb the school a few years ago, and daddy is a CAIR activist, prone to scream RACIST!!! at every opportunity. Not to mention the false claim of having building something. The question is did the kid build the clock, then daddy jump in, or did he give the boy the idea in the first place?
Did the school over-react? Maybe. Maybe not. Recall that zero-tolerance has been the dogma for several decades now. Bringing in anything which looked like that is pretty much guaranteed to cause a fuss.
Timing is everything with stupid human tricks like this, and these jerks screwed their own pooches with this one. Why? Because they tried to pull off a bit of asinine nonsense, tried to cry ‘WOLF!’, and tried to make it look like everyone else’s fault. And they did it when Mercury is retrograde.
Here’s a description of what I mean:
Pretty Little Liars
The darkest days of the retrograde are from Sept 23 up to the Lunar eclipse on Sept 28. Mercury is conjunct Algorab on Sept 23 when we could see some revenge, blatant lying and fiendishness in the press. Kiss and tells, with affairs being exposed. Around the Mercury square Pluto on Sept 24 we could see some whistle-blowing and a great, dark secret revealed. To cap it all, the Aries Lunar Eclipse on Sept 28 is a risk-taker’s eclipse, which could mean we gamble everything on investments or a relationship. So this is one of those all-or-nothing eclipses that could shoot us sky high or cause disaster for us.”
This is certainly a melodramatic Mercury Retrograde, but the influence of the Corvus the Crow makes it look a lot more scandalous than it actually is. So we get a Mercury retrograde of bluffing, hype, getting our ‘knickers-in-a-twist’ over nothing and pretty little liars. If you learn to see through the deception and act with bravery, you will have the opportunity to see pure magic working in your life.”
Since astrology is about timing and nothing else, no hoodoo or ooogy-boogey is involved in this. These people screwed themselves but good on this. They will not get the results they wanted to get, because they picked the wrong time to do it. Mercury retrograde is 9/17 to 10/9/15. They should have known better.
Look for more nasty and really embarrassing crap coming out of the political race on both sides of the fence, as it goes forward. It’s gonna be fun!
I always enjoy reading your Astrology posts, Ex-PH2!
It’s more important in the Arab world than it is now in Western culture. They all have the same origins and superstitions, and they take it seriously, whereas most Westerners view it as either silly fortune telling or oddball nonsense.
ISIS timed its announcement of the start of its caliphate to coincide with Ramadan in 2014. Western response to it has been bewilderment, alarm and ineffectiveness.
And now this flood of ‘refugees’ and the stupid human trick to get attention happen and don’t make sense. Like I said, timing is everything.
I remember reading that in another one of your posts on another thread, and yes I still enjoy reading it when you post it!
Someone posted on the jihadi truck bomber thread something about ‘guess whose daddy is taking him to Mecca before going to the White House?’
That’s in addition to the video slowed down to show the ‘refugee’ in Europe making a cut-throat gesture to the camera.
As indicated in my comment: ‘Around the Mercury square Pluto on Sept 24 we could see… a great, dark secret revealed.’
The pot is slowly coming to a boil.
Double, double, toil and trouble
Fire burn and cauldron bubble
I just hope it does not overload the real law enforcement people in any countries these thugs have entered.
Everyone who thinks the school over-reacted please do a google search for the phrase “suspicious package blown up” and then STFU. Had this little mooslim boy’s project been found unattended somewhere, it too would currently be dust.
Yes, it sure would have been. But that is NOT what happened.
He told his teacher it was a clock and opened it so it was clear.
The teacher saw that it was a clock.
He told the school staff it was a clock.
The inspected it and saw that it was a clock.
He told the police it was a clock.
The police inspected it and saw that it was a clock.
They all agreed it was a clock and all agreed it was not dangerous. EVERY. STEP. OF. THE. WAY.
It was not a bomb, and nobody ever believed is was a bomb.
They all admit that.
And their actions back up that;
they did not evacuate the school
they did not evacuate the administrative offices.
they stood around it with the kid in the room asking the kid questions about it.
Numerous staff inspected it.
No bomb experts or disposal team was ever called
the police picked it up and carried it to the vehicle, with other officer and the kid.
the police transported in a vehicle. In traffic.
they brought it to the police station; with the kid
they did not evacuate the station
they stored it in the station
they called the parents to the station
they opened it up and inspected it several times
it is still in the station.
It is not dust.
So, Lars, do you comprehend that the issue wasn’t that the device was a suspected bomb but that it could be mistaken for one and that putting together and displaying a device that a reasonable person in this day in age could mistake for a bomb is a problem? No one had to call a bomb squad. No one should have called a bomb squad. The issue was intent–did the guy INTEND to have “his” device mistaken for a bomb?
And, “Larsie” – are you capable of comprehending the fact that making a fake bomb is, under many if not most circumstances, unlawful in Texas?
http://penalcode.austintexascriminaldefense.com/46.08.html
It is clear he did not intend to cause anyone to mistake it for a bomb since he said it was a clock from the beginning.
Did he think a clock that looked like it came from an episode of 24 was cool? He is a 14 year old kid, so it is possible he though it would make a cool clock.
We all did dumb shit like this as kids. This school did not respond appropriately and neither did the police.
If they HAD though it was a bomb it would be different but they DID not think it was a bomb, they NEVER thought it was a bomb, and they NEVER ONCE treated it like a bomb.
So involving law enforcement, taking the kid to detention, potentially charging him with a crime, and interrogating a minor without a lawyer or parents present is an absolute ridiculous response.
For people who value “freedom” I find it surprising so many condone these kinds of over reactions.
when I said “detention”, I meant a law enforcement detention facility, not sitting in the library with a burned out teacher monitoring you.
Faking left but going lefter, Lars? MOST of your previous comment (posted at 2:03 p.m.) speaks to the fact that no one treated it as a bomb, regarded it as a bomb, or responded to the device as a bomb. When I, in reply, answer your comment by pointing out that whether it was a bomb was not at issue, you come back with, “they DID not think it was a bomb, they NEVER thought it was a bomb, and they NEVER ONCE treated it like a bomb.” No wonder others write you off. I don’t, ONLY because you say that you are a Veteran and that you served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Nonetheless, it’s getting increasingly difficult to have exchanges with you. And if I ever learn that you are not Veteran or that you did not serve in Iraq and Afghanistan, I will positively go ape shit.
If Lars had a son…
If Lars did not have comprehension of context issues….
It’s nice that you can read his mind, and tell the rest of us his intent.
Also please note that they LET HIM GO after talking to him. The only reason this got any publicity is that daddy used it as an example of RACISM!!! And people like you are reacting perfectly to their programming. Well done.
As for kvetching about people here “condoning” the local actions, there’s a pretty fair spread of reactions here, including “well, that was dumb.” Apparently you’re only counting data which supports your preselected position.
Funny thing,, I was in the Field one time and I used electrical tape and put a couple of the issue green D flashlight batteries together and stuck my watch on it.
My XO actually was startled as fuck seeing it in the tent, Mind you this was in 1987.
And you were an adult. So less excuse. Yet you were not detained or treated like a threat to national security.
So why the rabid desire to vilify this kid on this board but not you?
He’s not a Muslim, as far as I can tell, Lars. The kid is. There. Feel all better now?
Larsie-boy, everyone has the right to be harebrained, but YOU ABUSE THE PRIVILEGE!!!
Substantive response.
Funny, this is all you can come up with since essentially WE SHOULD BE IN AGREEMENT.
You are against most of the other ridiculous suspensions that you mentioned, but this one you defend.
Why? Is it because the kid is Muslim?
Let’s be clear; the suspension would likely NOT have garnered near this much outrage. The outrage and publicity came because they ARRESTED the kid, and sent him to juvenile detention, and considered charging him with a felony despite the fact that they knew it was not a bomb and never once believed it was evidenced by their own statements an the fact that they never once treated it like a bomb,
So you condone this kind of absurd overreaction?
Sorry, bud. That’s a “no go”.
I did my share of stupid sh!t when I was a kid. But I never built something that could easily be mistaken for a bomb and took it to school about 4 months after a couple of radical Islamic terrorists tried (and failed) to shoot someone 10 miles or so away for organizing a cartoon drawing contest.
So, no – we all didn’t do “dumb shit like this” as kids. Given recent events and the location, this kid was engaging in a special kind of dumbsh!t behavior.
Or maybe engaging in an intentional provocation, perhaps with help or encouragement. You tell me which you think it was.
Here Larsie-poo, chew on this:

This was a well engineered scheme that duped all Ahmed sympathizers. I see a pencil case that resembles a bomb,I think the school took appropriate actions. Liberals are armchair quarterbacks that hate America, hate authority and love the hell out of anarchy!
