Legacy Governor Cuomo calls for “national gun control”

| September 9, 2015

Reuters reports that, as predicted, the legacy governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, took advantage of his aide’s wounding on Monday to call for “national gun control” whatever the hell that means.

Cuomo in an interview on CNN on Tuesday called for a renewed effort to pass a national policy, saying it is key to stopping the flow of weapons into New York from other states.

“Elected officials have to have the political courage to step up and say, ‘This weekly, ongoing tragedy of loss of life, of innocent victims, school children, young girls, young boys, must stop,” Cuomo said on CNN.

Yeah, political courage. That’s what it is. What would take political courage would be for a politician to admit that they can’t regulate human behavior. New York is one of the most heavily gun-regulated states in the Union, and New York City, where the shooting took place is even more heavily regulated. The police haven’t found the shooter, but Cuomo claims that the guns they used came from out-of-state – I guess criminals can’t buy their illegal guns in New York now. The police have effectively enforced the SAFE Act so well that criminals aren’t selling guns out of the trunks of their cars or in alleys for fear of crossing the governor.

Oh, yeah, Cuomo says that he’s not anti-gun, he even owns a shotgun his spokesman tells us. Well, then, I completely trust him, you know, because someone said he owns a shotgun. The fact that he disarmed the entire state of New York should have no bearing on how I judge him, then. The fact that gun manufacturers had to create a whole new line of products just to conform to the idiotic restrictions he put on gun owners.

A U.S. firearms policy would be aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and mentally ill people, Cuomo said.

Yeah, I thought we were already doing that. The people who shot his buddy, the aide, were breaking, who knows how many laws when they shot him. How is writing more laws going to prevent the next shooting? How’s about folks like Cuomo enforce the existing laws instead of writing more? Because that would cause politicians to admit that they’re incompetent and they can’t enforce the laws to the extent that it would have any effect on crime. That laws can’t regulate bad behavior.

This is a free country, at least in the sense that there is no Martial law. Still, most people who live in urban kill zones pretty much understand that walking around at, oh, 3 or 4 in the morning isn’t such a good idea. It’s legal, of course, but it’s not too smart. Know what time Cuomo’s 43-year old ‘school child’ was shot? 3:40 a.m. Like I said, that’s not a crime. Neither is felony stupid.

Silentium Est Aureum

When I was in upstate NY recently, people’s reaction to the SAFE Act ranged anywhere from an overstepping of his authority to it was pure fucktardery.

Sounds like NY is a lot like CA–get outside the big cities, and it becomes more conservative, and a lot safer, if the crime stats are to be believed.

Great whitetail hunting upstate – been doing it for the last 38 years….in Schoharie County.

I was in the Watkins Glen/Montour Falls area a couple of weeks ago, there were a few signs around calling for the repeal of the SAFE Act, I had to explain to my fiancé what that was about.

Club Manager

When we lived in Town of Newburg in early 80’s some guy who lived behind us tried to force his way into my house to whip my ass for blowing a dog whistle to stop his dog form continuously barking. I introduced him to Mr. Smith & Wesson and he had a change of heart and promptly beat feet. I wound up before a judge having to promise his wife I would not shoot her, the dog or their kid. From the look on the judge’s face he was embarrassed by having to put me through the drill. Lucky for me I was in compliance with the state law at the time to have a pistol in the house. The problem in New Yawk City is the gutless mayor tied the cops hands so what do you expect?

I asked my sis how to go about getting a handgun there, she said the application process is over a year.

Eggs

Just to get the permit, that is.

Each county (NYC is New York County) independently issues pistol licenses based on policies established the legislature.

NYC – 18 months (if ever) to get a pistol license.

Nassau County (where I live) about 6 months.

Many other counties in NY – a couple of weeks.

That’s my asshole governor (with a small “a” &”g”) son of the former asshole governor sr. (with a small “a” &”g”)…..the apple doesn’t fall far from the socialist tree.

God, I hate this state….and, no! I can’t move, but will continue to complain 🙂

MustangCryppie

I grew up in Sleepy Hollow in Westchester. Best thing I ever did was leave that state.

Spaceshuttle door gunner

I lived in Canandaigua for 8 years – loved everything but the stupid laws. Moved down to Florida – hate everything but the great laws. Feel bad for leaving as that is one less conservative vote in that state – but nothing will ever change the grip that the City has on the entire state – the westwern part should secede

Hondo

Oh, I think the “a” in both of the above deserves to be capitalized . . . .

Stacy0311

as Harriet Van Johnson said so eloquently, “this just goes to prove that you are the leading asshole in the state”

Cuomo is a communist prick….too stupid to even try to explain anything to him and his other liberal, communist scum friends…all I can say…when you come to door, wait for it!!!

“What would take political courage would be for a politician to admit that they can’t regulate human behavior.”

What!?! Why heresy, blasphemy! Whoever heard of such a radical position? Next you’ll be telling us that people are capable of dealing with problems without interference e from hectoring busybodies hundreds of miles away.

Hmm-screwed up the tags on that somehow.

Thanks to whoever fixed it.

It’s now de rigueur for Democrats and RINOs to talk about a national gun policy whenever children are murdered or a public figure is shot. It’s the repeated knocking on the proverbial door. Eventually, it is hoped, the door will open. Cuomo speaks of children, school children, of course. That’s a key element in the gun-grabber talking points. How many of NY’s murders were of innocent school children? I know the ready response: one is too many. Okay. Then I’ll tell you what. No school children may use a swimming pool. None may eat hot dogs. Not one may ride in a car. Well, those are accidents you say. So? It shouldn’t matter if saving just one child’s life is truly to be defended. And speaking of protests, where are the protesters marching today to demand that thugs stop doing what thugs do. Where it would make sense for them to be is in Detroit, Chicago, LA, D.C., and Baltimore. I mean, if Black lives matter, why is it that the masses aren’t protesting where Blacks are shot daily—by other Blacks? Where is La Raza as Hispanics/Latinos/whatever carve and shoot each other up? Attending Democratic fundraisers to end violence, I suppose.

Bill Cook

As to regulating human behavior, people like Cuomo will take the same position as those who want to institute communism, saying “But this time we will do it right.”

Hondo

Methinks someone needs to take “Andrew the Foole” aside and explain to him (1) the concept of Federalism; (2) the Second Amendment; (3) DC v. Heller; and (4) McDonald v. Chicago.

If the man wants “national gun control”, he can feel free to work for a Constitutional Amendment to that effect. That’s what it will take.

He doesn’t have the stones.

The Other Whitey

Better yet, he can move to some “crime-free utopia” where they practice his flavor of horseshit without that pesky Constitution or Rule of Law to get in the way. I hear Cuba is nice this time of year!

UpNorth

Let Cuomo move in with his buddy, Rahmbo. Chicago always welcomes new targets citizens.

BGS

Schadenfreude when his kids got mugged

Hmmm…. Remind me to avoid states like NY, CT, MA, CA – oh, what were the rest of them?

I think it’s just a shame that people like governor comatose don’t bother to do a little research before they shoot their mouths off. I’m making notes about place to avoid.

Hondo

Per their 2011 Brady Scores, the 11 states rated “2 stars” or more by the Brady Bunch were CA, NJ, MA, NY, CT, HI, MD, RI, IL, PA, and MI. Add DC (probably about equivalent to NY), and you have the “doofus dozen” states (or rough equivalent) that don’t appear to believe what the 2nd Amendment says.

The Brady Bunch didn’t like people cross-checking their propaganda against reality by performing analysis, so they went to a partly-subjective letter-grade system in 2013. I have that, and it does have some numbers – but it’s more convoluted. Maybe one day I’ll analyze that one “in my spare time” . . . when I’m feeling masochistic. (smile)

UpNorth

I doubt that Michigan rates that high with the Brady morons any more. We’re a shall-issue CPL state, and gun sales are up. There are about a half million CPL holders in the state now, and women are the fastest growing demographic.

Jeff

You know, I don’t really go in for the Dirty Harry or John Wayne tough guy persona. I can’t pull it off, and I just end up sounding like an idiot. That said, this crosses a line for me — hits a deep trigger. My only response to the governor is: “From my cold, dead hands you Maoist freak.”

rb325th

When is Cuomo and others like him going to wake up? Seriously, all they have to do is outlaw gun crime, and it will cease… be just as effective, and would not infringe on any law Abiding Citizens Rights!!

Sparks

“National gun control” sounds a lot like “stop the gun violence”. Both are ambiguous and misnamed. Guns do not commit violence and national gun control, whatever the hell that means, is just a sound good solution to a feel good issue. Liberals love that in favor of talking about the truth of any matter.

SFC D

“National Gun Control” should consist of training in the safe and prudent use of firearms.

HMCS (FMF) ret.

… and use of both hands on the weapon.

Hondo

. . . to achieve a good, stable sight picture and positive target identification before firing a round.

AW1Ed

…and knowledge of what is beyond the target.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Good point considering their are cameras every where.

If you release a straight arm one handed round and hit the wrong target … you are screwed!

However, if proficient in close arm draw fire and gut shot a perp … one hand will do just fine!

David

well, he is right in a way… to my knowledge, there are no handgun manufacturers in NYC, so any handgun comes from somewhere else. His version of Utopia would basically take all guns out of the hands of anyone who doesn’t agree with him (the basis for the old Sullivan law). The SAFE act is the best response to the “but no one wants to confiscate your guns” meme – if you own a forbidden gun, possession is only allowed till you die and whether you think it is private property or not, heirloom or not – it is confiscated.

Does New York fully report all mental cases? Adverse competency hearings? Felony domestic assaults? Thought not…. then there is my dearest dream – that every anti-gun politician: mayor, President, Congresscritter, even city councilperson- put your money where your mouth is. No armed guards, no police protection, no Secret Service – if it is a better life gun-free…prove it.

Ex-PH2

IMHO, I think it’s logical to add that they should have to carry their own ‘protection’ in the form of a canister of pepper spray and maybe a rape whistle.

I really do think now that the biggest cowards on the planet are politicians.

BGS

Nanny Bloomers threatened to take the cops off the streets for a week, until a heckler asked him to promise not to bring them back early when drug dealers & pimps start floating down the Hudson.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Wild pit bulls are eating the homeless in the streets of NYC … to be shot by off duty corrections officers!

Oh, the corrections officer shot the dog in the head not the poor homeless fellow!

It took another 2.5 minutes to release its grip … the dog.

Yeah, bring it on Gov C and Mayor de Blasio our city has been dialed back to 70’s and 80’s level of depravity!

Ex-PH2

Wait ’till you get a rolling blackout from a failure on the electric grid. That’ll make it even better.
