Greg “Lakota” Witter, another stellar career down the crapper

| August 29, 2015

Greg Witter 2

The folks at Military Phonies send us their work on Greg Earl Witter who claims that he retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant in 2010, that he was with Task Force Ranger in Somalia, that he has combat tours of Iraq and Afghanistan, that he was a Special Forces soldier, and that he was the lone survivor of his final mission and spent a year at Walter Reed recovering from his injuries which abruptly ended his career;

Journalists like his stories, and who wouldn’t;

The truth is close, but not as close as ol’ Greg would like you to think. He left the Army as a staff sergeant after 11 years, he served with a special forces unit as a “voice interceptor” in the Alabama National Guard in the mid-90s. When he reenlisted, he went to the 82d Airborne Division and it looks like he spent most of his time in the 2d Brigade. According to his awards, he has one rotation to Afghanistan, he earned an Expert Infantryman Badge along with a Combat Infantryman Badge (a stellar accomplishment right there).

As near as I can determine, that Task Force 141 which gets a mention in the Argus Leader article above is a Call of Duty video game unit – so that part of his biography might be true, but I’m pretty sure that combat veterans don’t want to hear about his exploits on his couch over the weekend. And, yes, that picture of him at the top of the page seems to be a mugshot.

He also makes claims that he is a Native-American Indian and there seems to be some doubts about that, as well, but you can read about it at the Military Phonies link. That’s outside my lane.

  1. NR Pax says:

For some reason, I dislike these fakes more than the ones whose only military service was in their head.

    • BmrSnr991 says:

I agree. I think the answer is simple; because they of people should know better.

The ones who make it up entirely have never served, never understood what it means to put on the uniform or serve in combat. They just don’t know any better. Guys like this do or should know better. I think that’s what makes them worse.

  2. GDContractor says:

Florida, the gift that keeps on giving.

  3. GDContractor says:

Just finished reading the Military Phonies takedown. Dude has all his ducks in a row. I hope he seriously considers starting a business named Many Points Logistics. Sky’s the limit!

    • Hack Stone says:

He will just have to make sure that he stacks the senior executives with some shady characters. He can then use their past indiscretions (bankruptcies, DUI’s, assaults, restraining orders) as leverage in order to get them to go out on career suicide missions. Is this guy a wannabe biker, too?

  4. The photographs on his FACEBOOK page make me suspicious.

Too many photographs of little children, plus himself with his shirt off adds up to a bad combination, deserving of further investigation.

That comment about a fellow soldier dying in his arms definitely indicates a phony, because genuine combat veterans don’t ever volunteer such information.

    • Ex-PH2 says:

Ha! Mallernee, you’re a helluva spotter.

How you doing this weekend? Yes, you should grow the beard back for Christmas.

  5. Just an Old Dog says:

I don’t thing anything in particular that was “stellar” about his carreer. He was basically a Comm guy who worked intercepting messages.
That he took a hike at 11 years ( From his pictures he looks to be fine physically) points to him being not wanted.
One of the worst lying sacks of shit Ive seen,

    • GDContractor says:

To be fair, he was 11 series for most of the period 2001 to 2006, according to the records above.

    • Silentium Est Aureum says:

The fact he got out at that point isn’t a huge issue with me. You’d be surprised at the number of mid-career NCO’s and officers at the 10-12+ year point that find staying until 20 just isn’t worth it, or a much better opportunity comes along.

But pissing all over that service the way he has? No excuse.

  6. HMCS (FMF) ret. says:

Pic is courtesy of the Ada County Sheriff… wonder what Greggy-poo was doing in the Ada County “pound him in the ass” lockup? Here is is:

Oh, his new tribal name should be “Two Dogs F*&$ing”…

Under Gregory Lonewolf, he was busted in 2012 for DUI:

    • Ex-PH2 says:

      2 Dogs Fooking?

This early? Senior Chief, can I steal that?

      • HMCS (FMF) ret. says:

        Yes you can…

      • Poetrooper says:

        Ex-PH2, origin of the name:

A young Indian boy asks his father, “Father, how is it that we are named?

His father kindly responds, “Tribal children are named for the first thing their fathers see upon first emerging from their teepees on the morning of their childrens’ births. Such as your sister, named Running Deer, after the two deer I saw running across the prairie early the morning of her birth.”

“Why do you ask such a question, Two Dogs Fucking?”

  7. Daisy Cutter says:

“Last of my family” = “Let me give you my seed”

    • Ex-PH2 says:

      ‘Give you my seed’????? EEeeeeewwww!

I’ve haven’t had breakfast yet. You’ve completely destroyed my urge for crisp bacon and raisin toast. I hope you’re proud of yourself.

    • jonp says:

ok…that’s fucking disturbing and so funny I almost blew coke out of my nose

  8. UpNorth says:

Unsubstantiated claims of being a native American? He’s obviously qualified to be a United States Senator, running as a member of the jackass party.

    • Poetrooper says:

      My thought exactly.

      Lying and deceitful, Check.

      Criminal behavior, Check

      Phony Indian, Check.

      Stolen Valor, Check.

  9. Daisy Cutter says:

Suspect things are catching up to this guy. He says on his Gregory Lakota Facebook page, which seems to be the most currently active, that he is moving to the Philippines and has a plane ticket booked for Tuesday September 1st, 2015. Claims he wants to open a body building gym there.

Also says to have found a Filipino model on a dating site that currently lives there.

It could be all true, or it could be an effort to shed the “Lonewolf” legend and go for the “Lakota” story in a country with women and others not familiar with his conflicting stories.

    • Ex-PH2 says:

Just keep him away from the kids, okay? Take a quick read of JMallernee’s observation of this creep.

There was a reason he creeps me out.

      • Daisy Cutter says:

Hmmm… I see what you mean. You think he’s going over to the Philippines to hook up with a Filipina bar boy?

        • Hack Stone says:

Hack has a few connections with Philippine law enforcement. Maybe I can give the a heads up and they can put out a BOLO.

          • Daisy Cutter says:

He says he’s going to live in Angeles City / Makati and open up a gym there. It says “Angeles City” on his facebook page but who knows what to believe with this guy?

Signed a three month lease. Could be all a ruse to shake LEO or pissed of ex-girlfriends.

            • Ex-PH2 says:

From what I understand about the PI as it is today, Angeles City is the recipient of all the business related to prostitution that was originally a byproduct of the Navy bases at Subic Bay and Olongapo City. Essentially, it’s one big ol’ whorehouse. Sounds perfect for him.

  10. 2/17 Air Cav says:

“In college[,] I wrestled on four national championship teams…”

Now, if you were a wrestler on just one national championship team wouldn’t you name that team? You bet you would. He says he was on four but doesn’t ID the school. Then there’s that little matter of college wresting championships. DI and DII colleges it couldn’t be because no team has strung together four championships in twice that many consecutive years. In DI, Iowa owns college wrestling and only occasionally took a break from winning the championship between 1978 and 2000. So, I guess that means Witter wrestled for Iowa. Um, no.

  11. 2/17 Air Cav says:

“DI and DII colleges it couldn’t be….” That should have been “DII and DIII.”

  12. COB6 says:

Hey Jonn; you and I were both assigned to Task Force 141! And lo and behold we both made it home!

    • Jonn Lilyea says:

Yeah, but I don’t think that was the Task Force that he was thinking of. I’m sure that destroying Hussein’s Army in Eastern Iraq and Kuwait was to mundane for this hero.

    • HMCS (FMF) ret. says:

Dude must be thinking about his latest session playing “Call of Booty”… being the last one out of Mogairaqidickistan, you know – killing all of the bad guys and losing his entire squad in the process.

Must be in Multiplayer mode with another “warrior”, Cody “Shift Manager” Stermer.

  13. John Sprecher says:

I was deployed twice to Iraq in Task Force 1-41. We were mechanized infantry and armor in 2003, and 2004-2005.
    His claim is obviously bogus.

  14. CLAW131 says:

This is what too many roids do to you.

    Big head and little pecker.

  15. Daisy Cutter says:

Task Force 141 = Call of Booty

  16. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

Wow, this flatus-headed Sparkle Pony of an embellishing creampuff really pours it on!! A CIB is enough to be proud of, even more with an EIB, that’s one tough badge to earn. Bradenton, FL is home to a large Tropicana facility, it looks like there’s plenty of room there for their juice and NONE OF HIS, because it damn sure stinks to high heaven!!

  17. Green Thumb says:

    Fake Native American.

He needs to get up to Huntsville and speak with Phony Phil Monkress.

This turd is a shoo-in to All-Points Logistics if I have ever seen one.

  18. HMC RET says:

He refers to himself as ‘Lonewolf’ so he must be legit. That’s the slam dunk of a legitimate veteran. Or not …

  19. MCPO NYC USN Ret. says:

This guy likes the PI way too much.

In fact I might venture to say he is a violator … If you know what I am talkin’ ’bout!

  20. Formally known as JR says:

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe an overseas service ribbon is missing?

    • Formally known as JR says:

Actually, 2 are missing with Korea and Afghanistan I think

      • Hondo says:

        Probably, but not necessarily.

Award of the OSR for service in either Korea or a combat-tour location like Afghanistan requires having enough service to fulfill the regulatory requirements for short tour credit under hardship tour rules. In particular, for Afghanistan the governing reg requires 9 mo continuous service or 11 mo within a 24 mo period for OS tour credit.

Korea tours can be and sometimes are curtailed short of 9 mo; ditto service in Afghanistan. It’s thus possible to get the ACM or KDSM (each requires 30+ days svc consecutive in the AO) but not have enough time in the AO to receive OS tour credit – and thus no OSR.

  21. JimV says:

Speaking of awards, I was amazed to discover recently that my retirement award (MSM) was not posted in my 201 file. Fortunately, I have the original and need to fill out a form to update my records. My former commander was kind of flaky so I’m not all that surprised I guess.

    • Hondo says:

JimV: ensure you send a copy of the orders along with a copy of the cert. I’ve seen info that leads me to believe that the records correction/custodian branches FINALLY figured out how easy it was for people to get fake award certificates and are now requiring orders for such corrections.

  22. Green Thumb says:

When this turd opens his mouth he will become the “crapper” where he is headed.

  23. Martinjmpr says:

    Just an Old Dog said:

He was basically a Comm guy who worked intercepting messages.

Not comms, intelligence. 😉 Voice intercept = 98G. Every SF Bn has an MI Detachment in the Battalion Support Company (sometimes called D Company, sometimes HSC and sometimes just “support company.”)

Should have had a language, too, however many NG SF units will slot people before they’re qualified and THEN send them to school. For language courses, the failure rate is rather high, no record of attending DLI tells me he never even made it in.

Unfortunately there is a long and dishonorable tradition of support guys claiming to be SF and because they were actually assigned to the battalion, know the lingo and have earned some of the awards (all slots are supposed to be on jump status) they can often fool people for quite a while.

  24. Runlikehell says:

OMG….I know this guy!! I see that he has become the biggest scammer of all time. Tried to help him with his so called PTSD but realized he was just a pathetic loser. Sheilded myself from him because of fear….he is not a sane person…obviously. I hope he gets what he deserves.

  25. jgthebeast says:

If true, he is the penultimate poser. I saw a photo of him in his “A’s” CIB, Airborne, Freefall, and Diver…He also had a Ranger class photo on his wall. Said he went from REGIMENT, to triple nickel (group), to CAG. Said he provided aerial overwatch in the other bird in Mogadishu. Said Petraeus ordered his team out of the building so the 101st could get the Hussein brothers. Said his first mission in the UNIT was hunting Pablo…I could go on but lastly no shit: he detailed step by step his assassination of Kim Il Sung (former dictator of RNK).

  26. lulutoyou says:

This dude is on a dating site POF and is further spreading his lies around….I also checked out his facebook and makes me want to vomit. He claims to still be in Bradenton though his facebook claims he was going to move to the Phillipines….lol!

  27. Lizzie says:

I may be the only one to defend Greg, he put me throghh hell personally. But he is not a child molester, that is his son in the pictures. He does very much suffer from ptsd. I have experienced it first hand. He is a very funny yet confused person. We no longer are in contact but in his defender, we all have are demons. It’s not fair to lie about your life. But something brought him to the point where he felt like he had to in order to get attention. I was surprised to find this information on him. I don’t blame anyone for their thoughts about this. But we are all human.

  28. Manila_Expat says:

Know this guy (not personally, just through email and stuff). He actually did come to the Philippines for a couple months (I’ve lived here for 8 years), but then one night just took off after blocking everyone he knew here on Facebook. Guess he owes some people money down in Boracay.
Anyway, knew something wasn’t right about the guy, being medically retired myself (USN, 15 years and change in service – non combat related injuries). Found out he’s alive and well, and actually (in my opinion) crossed the fucking line this time, accepted $2500 for a new car from Wounded Warriors of South Florida (via Facebook).
    So, what to do?

    • John Doe says:

That is true Manila. He actually befriended an old Vietnam Vet that has helped him with the car. It is unbelievable to me that someone has the balls to actually do this. Good thing is that the word is out around here. I received an email a few days ago for an acquaintance telling us what his real name is. I have many vets that work for me and this will not be pretty.

  29. Sandman says:

Looks like Ole Lonewolf is back in the states, and back on FB. Drop on by and give him some love!

  30. John Doe says:

He’s back in Florida!! Thinks he’s a bodybuilder to add to all of his grandiose stories of being a war hero. I tried to help him at first not thinking he was such a liar. But it all comes out… He has so many different lies he can’t keep them all straight. I feel for the people that have reached out to help him. However, this man has made a big mistake!!! Where he’s posing there are a lot of veterans and these dudes will not take this lightly when they find out!!! I hope his wrestling background will help him!!!
