SAN ANTONIO — An alleged shootout between a burglar and a homeowner broke out early Saturday morning, police say.Around 3:23 a.m. a husband and wife were sleeping in their home located in the 100 block of Evandale Drive. The wife then woke up the husband saying she heard something.
The husband grabbed his handgun and went to investigate. That’s when he saw an unknown man “glancing at him from one of the rooms.”
The husband, fearing for his safety, fired several gunshots at the suspect. Fleeing, the suspect jumped out the window and began shooting back from his own firearm, striking the house.
No injuries were reported.
The suspect as of Saturday morning has not been located.

Mail carrier who delivered for late Vietnam War vet adopts his dog
By Sydney Persing
DENTON, Texas (WFAA) – Every single day, there are dogs inside the City of Denton Animal Shelter in Texas waiting for a human to take them home.On Tuesday, a 70-pound pup named Floyd finally got his forever home.
Mail carrier Ian Burke said knew he was meant to be Floyd’s family.
“I’m taking this guy home with me,” Burke said.
It was not the first time the two met at the shelter.
“I don’t take it lightly, you know. Like this is just some random dog that I’m adopting,” he said. “This is a dog that was loved and cherished by a former customer of mine.”
Burke met Floyd three years ago while delivering mail to Floyd’s then owner, a wheelchair-bound Vietnam vet on his daily route.
“He got out the door and charged at me, a little puppy,” Burke said.
Burke said he looked forward to seeing Floyd and his owner each week.
“I checked his mail, which I liked,” he said.
A year and a half ago, Burke’s route changed. Saturday, the mailman who took over let Burke know Floyd’s owner had died, and the dog was in the shelter.
“I went down to the shelter at about 10 a.m., that’s when they open, I got there at about 9:50 to make sure I was first in line,” Burke said.
Burke was the first and he quickly adopted the dog.
“I kinda felt responsible to take care of him,” he said. “I think he’d be pleased to know his former mailman is taking good care of his dog.”
Burke said he hopes sharing Floyd’s story might encourage others to head to the shelter and give a dog a second chance.
It’s only been two days since the adoption and already Floyd is Burke’s best friend.
“Probably one of the best things that the postal service inadvertently issued me,” Burke said.

Alien Remus……is there an Alien Romulus?
“The suspect…….has not been located.”
Should be easy. Just follow the trail of yellow stains and brown lumps.
Should have issued a tissue alert with this one. I love a happy ending doggo story.
I’m not crying, YOU’RE the one crying…ya big softy.
Amazing how laying down some grazing fire will cause a dirt bag to remember pressing business elsewhere.
If the politicians had to fight the wars…There wouldn’t be any wars.
For $6+ very large that damn thing better be able to fetch me a cold beer, make me a sammich, and orally gratify me.
Well, KoB, that barrel looks like it should be MORE than capable of fitting…..

(Bro, don’t be leaving any softball sitting around)
Glad I could help you make a “score”, Chimpy. A softball is about the only thing you could “hit” and score on.
“70-pound pup named Floyd”
dats a big puppy…
Homeowner needs some range time, IMHO.
Glad the pup found someone who will love and appreciate him. BZ, sir.
The grass around the adoption place looks very clean and comfortable.
A good story and will have certainly the attention of people in the Denton area and beyond. It’s not easy to go to a rescue shelter and come home alone.
Floyd looks good in his red bandana. Haha, Floyd is term I use when my dog gets “excited”. Lamont ‘s having a “Floyd”.
