Major General James Post fired

A10 Thunderbolt

The Hill reports that Major General James Post, the vice-commander of Air Combat Command was relieved from his position for warning Airmen at a convention to refrain from speaking to Congress or the media if they didn’t support the official policy of the Air Force to dump the A-10 Thunderbolt (the Warthog) close ground support aircraft.

Post’s “choice of words had the effect of attempting to prevent some members from lawfully communicating with Congress,” which is a violation of the U.S. Code and [Department of Defense] Directives, whether that was his intention or not,” said Air Combat Command (ACC).

His remarks had a “chilling effect on some of the attendees and caused them to feel constrained from communicating with members of Congress,” the command said.

So, the A-10 chalks up another casualty and survives yet another fight. Post made the Air Force look impotent because they have no real rationale to remove the indispensable bird from it’s inventory and the discussion about their plans doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.

I have been a HUGE A-10 fan and got my first A-10 boiner at Sheppard AFB while in Tech School. They showed us an A-10 round in a display case and then showed us an unclass but FOUO film of the A-10 in action.
HUGE Boner.
That was about 1984 and I’m not sure it’s gone down entirely yet. 😀

At last:

Someone with balls and brain within the Airforce.

Good choice to fire that General´s ass…

…Sadly, General Post got relieved for being stupid enough to get caught, not for what he did.

Grimmy

Seems to me to be an indicator of just how loud and closed circuit the echo chamber is within the USAF senior “leadership”.

Dude felt perfectly safe to run his sump like he did. I wonder why.

Save the A-10, save soldier’s lives!

IronMike

haha, ChipNASA said it all!

I thought they did away with the ‘Dont ask, Dont tell’ policy. Maybe if they change the name of it to something like “Pretty Piggy”, painted it pink, and got rid of that big phallic symbol sticking out of it, they would consider it upgraded with the times.

E-6 type, 1 ea

I’d take a Pretty Piggy Pink A-10 over an F-35/F-22/F-16 any day of the week.

The Air Forces Obsession with the A-10 goes but to the 90s every time they want money they cry well we have to Cut the warthog it’s as bad as the pentagon crying about Tri Care. It’s time to shut up it’s getting old

GOOD RIDDANCE MG POST, I hope the door slams on your ass and bruises it while you’re cleaning out your office!

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Chip … That is funny and so appropriate.

Last time someone hinted I (and my associates) could not go to Congress and/or the press on an issue … I contact my Congresswoman and the press immediately.

The system really works well when you are given unlawful orders in front of many witnesses.

I remember 30 years ago, that you could not write your congressman or at least not without going through the Chain of Command. We had an incident that a Sailor wrote his congressman saying how sucky it is where he was at and we received a very nasty letter from the congressman demanding answers right away.

Good. Fuck him. Now he can work for Lockheed full time instead of part time. He’ll have a cool six figure salary if not more waiting for him when he officially separates.

Robert

Flew Rescue in the AF for several years. Nothing better than 2 A-10s in a wagon wheel with the and 2 more at the survivor location. Nothing else could come close.

Thunderstixx

All he did was say what every other moron higher up ass kisser for ovomit was thinking and got caught…
The sycophants that inhabit those higher echelons of command all deserve to be tossed out.
They don’t care about anyone but themselves and only enough about the political machine in DC that is destroying a great military and a great assortment of men and women…

Well said

Why does the Air Combat Command have a general in charge of vice?

Doesn’t the Air Force have enough problems without also creating and condoning an entire separate department of SIN?

“Vice Commander” indeed!

Eric

Well when you aren’t “really” in the military, you can get away with that kind of thing I guess.

Badum-tish!

Big Steve

F*** this guy, who is either too stupid or too “bought and paid for” to understand that the A10 is an awesome aircraft that saves American lives in situations needing CAS. And unlike attack helicopters, they are damn hard to bring down.

Is it just me or are an unprecedented number of our top military leaders getting dumber?

Frankie Cee "loud and clear"

The Air Force says they need the space taken up by the A-10 to use with new fighters. If that is the case, just transfer the A-10 program to the Army, who gets the most use of it anyway. No one has asked the troops on the ground under the A-10 about what they think of ditching it.

I worked for Gen Welsh,CSAF in one of his fighter squadrons when he was a colonel and wing king at Kunsan AB back in the late 90s. He was a dynamic speaker and leader and the wing did very well that year. (I saw numerous wing commanders come and go at the Kun). We all knew he would go far and some predicted he would end up in his current position. He has gotten on board with the scrap the A-10 mantra and the only thing I can figure is that it’s political and he is being told to shut up and color. That said, I have been aware since the early 80s that the Air Force didn’t like the A-10 or its mission. It is disheartening to see someone I believed in toeing the party line like that. Thank God I’m retired!

Having served in the Air Farce, no, I did not misspell it, for over 43 years, 20 active duty and 23 plus as a silly servant and just observing a few of its happenings and oh yes, graduating from its supreme academic institution, the Blue Zoo, and before everyone keeps hooping it up, let me address a couple of things. The reason the Air Farce wants to get rid of the A-10 is because they need the A-10 maintainers for their new pride and joy, the F-35 flying pig (Pierre Sprey, father of the A-10) a program that is so messed up that even the Marines, which I love having been the bastard step children of the Navy forever, but doing more with less, as drunken the Lightning II Kool Aid. There are a few of us in lowly places, the old Fighter Pilot Mafia who are clandestingly fighting to keep the A-10 alive. Luckily we have large power brokers like Senators McCain and Ayotte on our side along with Representative Martha McSally a former A-10 pilot and A-10 Squadron Commander. Even Chuck Norris has rolled into the fight to save the A-10, but the Air Farce is doing everything they can to get rid of it and just one example was using falsified data about friendly fire and civilian casualty data. Enough on the fight to save the A-10. The last thing is yes, General “Hawk” Carlisle, “fired” (relieved of command) MG Post and really punished him by giving him a “written reprimand”, I wonder what he can do with that, but what isn’t said is what is MG Post’s next assignment going to be, Thule, Greenland or Shemya, Alaska? I doubt it. Or will MG Post do the honorable thing and retire and like someone else already said, be hired by one of the big defense contractors at a six figure salary. Se la Guerre
