Hiking trail Quick e-mail view

You didn’t ask for one, but here it is. The news of the day is that, Daniel A. Bernath, in his appeal of the restraining order hearing in which he failed last Spring, he’s also failed in the appeal of that decision. Probably more because he’s lazy and didn’t serve notice of the appeal to me or my lawyers, and he failed to file the opening brief. So, I’m free and clear of that scimitar hanging over my head. He had no case anyway. Our thanks to the lawyers riding herd on that whole thing.

And this weekend’s featured photo comes from Ex-Ph2 as we find our way out of the legal woods.

SMA Chandler is SHORT!!! 6 days and a wake up!!

Anybody have any news on Spec8 Moerk?? Too bad she’s not short.

streetsweeper

Wait, she is short…Why, she so short, she can play handball on the curb…

A Proud Infidel®™

I heard SHE’S SO SHORT she just puts an aspirin in her boot to get rid of a headache! 😀

The Other Whitey

I heard she’s so short the top of her head is level with a 3-star’s belt buckle, and that he sets his beer on top her head all the time.

What is the etiquette for wearing miniature military badges, such as a CIB or Parachutist Badge, with civilian clothing, like a tuxedo for a formal occasion?

Green Thumb

I wear them on my left lapel in order of presence and straight.

John Robert Mallernee

See my post, “PROPER CIVILIAN WEAR OF MILITARY MEDALS” and AR 6-70-1:30-6.

The URL is:

Miniature medals and badges MAY be worn on formal dress; id est: black tie (dinner jacket/tuxedo) or white tie and tails. Formal dress is after 6pm …

[And why do weddings have men wear tuxedoes before 6pm … men should be wearing morning suits]. And if you’re wearing a morning suit or business suit, you should wear full-sized medals, not miniatures.

[the US does not have a regulation, but our UK and Commonwealth allies do:

Wearing decorations with Morning Dress 2.51
2.51 Orders, decorations and medals may be worn with Morning Dress on special official public functions, memorial services, etc. In each case the host of the function or service should intimate whether the wearing of decorations is appropriate. With Morning Dress the following may be worn:
a. up to four Breast Badges or Stars;
b. not more than one neck badge (senior neck badge or the most appropriate to the occasion); and
c. full size medals. ]

Miniatures look sharp when worn properly!

Guard Bum

Minor correction there, shouldn’t any suit worn to a wedding be a mourning suit vice morning suit?

Some Chevy activity at an old thread http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=56903&cpage=1#comment-2447431. Scroll down to yesterday. Just in case you missed it.

My dog just went outside a left a huge, steaming pile of Phil Monkress.

Thunderstixx

My dog just left a tribute to Monkeyress, turdbath, chevroturd and a couple other.
They are so lifelike I left them in the road where she plopped them so others can admire her work too !!!

Ill lay my M4 on the bed, then fuck around on this computer, put on a blanket then take the blanket off. Now here is the problem, sometimes the blanket gets on top of the M4. So I will look at my M4 every 2-5 minutes, suddenly its not there. So I jump up like a madman and scan the room, then my heart sinks, then I lift up the blanket, then I am overcome by a wave of relief. And that is about every 45 minutes to an hour of my life if I am in this room.

Twist

When I got home I kept looking for my M-4 whenever I woke up. Each time I realized it wasn’t there my first thought was of a pissed off Sergeant asking where my weapon was.

Jordan Rott

Hey Guys, I did this on Halloween and it worked:

Go in your bathroom and flush the toilet. Now turn off all the lights, and say “Nick Androski” Three times in the mirror. Now turn the lights back on. If your toilet is now full of shit, it worked and you successfully summoned the spirit of Nick.

Big Steve

I remember Androsky and that AF uniform with every AF and Army ribbon and badge imaginable. As far as phony uniforms go, that one was the all-time winner.

That said, I was sorry to hear that he offed himself. He was obviously troubled.

Jordan Rott

God damn I meant that to be a new post and to type on this one. I do the same thing when I’m at home to haha.

Ex-PH2

When you guys are concerned about your weapons at home, you should keep them where you know you put them last, e.g., your pants’ pocket.

Then you can touch them constantly and feel reassured that no one has touched your weapons except you.

Jordan Rott

At home and here my weapon is always under my pillow when I sleep and within arms reach if I’m awake. The problem is staying in one place to long and blankets, for me anyway. I go to type or write shit down or read and move one blanket out of the way and the pillow against the wall to lean on, blanket covers up the rifle, then I realize I covered it, then I switch how I’m sitting, repeat cycle. Also you have a solid logic with the pocket thing, but that only works for pistols of which I don’t have right now haha.

Ex-PH2

Yeah, I know. When I take a camera into the bush to shoot dragons or wildflowers, I have a pocket wallet instead of my purse, so that there is nothing in my car.

Keys are in one pocket, pocket wallet in another, but I find myself constantly patting the pocket with the wallet, because it is quite flat and my keys are bulky.

Jordan Rott

Dragons and Wildflowers thing threw me into a downward spiral of confusion so deep and dark that a Cop shot at it.

David

nice singletrack, by the way.

rgr1480

Just our weapons??

John Robert Mallernee

M-4?

Since I’m just an old geezer and the M-4 hadn’t been invented yet back when I was a soldier in the United States Army, I reckon I just have to make do with sleeping with my Colt CAR-15 .223 calibre semi-automatic carbine with its collapsible stock, bayonet, Israeli style sling, and forty round magazine.

CLAW131

Reported to the Rigby,ID Barbershop at about 0845 hours this past Tuesday.

Was there for about an hour altogether. Our favorite tat-boy Matthew Beck was once again a no show, so was unable to verbally relay Green Thumb’s message.

Maybe next month.

Green Thumb

He was probably at the tattoo parlor getting the latest medals on his body.

John Robert Mallernee

Hey, that’s MY old stomping grounds!

I used to live in the “ROXY” Theatre in Saint Anthony, Idaho, and I traveled about performing at gatherings of the Cowboy Poets of Idaho.

One of my favorite cowboy poets (whose name I’ve forgotten) lived in Rigby.

You probably know him.

His most requested poem was, “THE TELEPHONE”.

John Robert Mallernee

I just now remembered:

His name is OREL ELSER, a rancher from Rigby, Idaho, and he is best known for his hilarious poem, “THE TELEPHONE”.

Look him up, and tell him I hollered, “Howdy!”

Google him.

Sparks

Crap…but Number 9…I think there are songs about 9. “Love Potion Number 9”, etc. So I good with being the ninth poster for the WOT.

Sparks

Crap…Well Green Thumb bumped me to number 10 before I could hit Reply. But it’s cool. He’s a great guy. However if I have to Reply as being number 11…I give up. 😀

CLAW131

Yep, you numbah 10, GI.

As far as Love Potion #9, your choice on the band, the Clovers or the Searchers. But either way, Madame Ruth will mix it up for you right here in the sink.

Sparks

CLAW131…I’ll take the “Searchers” as Number 1, but “Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders” did an okay job in 1963. Later “Gary Lewis & the Playboys” cover sucks and they can bite me…as always. Madame Ruth can mix me up anything she wants. At my age…I’ll take what I can get. 😀

Twist

I got all excited one day when I beat you to the open thread. I hope you are feeling better brother.

Sparks

Twist…Thanks for the thoughts brother. I am getting a little better each day. After surgery when I got home I felt like I had 100% more energy but asked the doctor where it all was. He said 99% is being used by your body to heal right now. As time passes though and healing progresses, the numbers should flip in my favor. Looking forward to Cardiac Rehab in 4 weeks. It will make a big difference in every aspect of my life and recovery. The heart healthy diet and change in daily eating patterns has me feeling full and sated and I am losing about a pound to a pound and a quarter a day. Not bad feeling smaller and slimmer and taking the best care of this new heart I can. Who knew eating only once a day, at supper and then eating 3 pounds of food and going right to bed was bad for you? 😀

Ex-PH2

I’d like to know what you’ll do with cardiac rehab.

I’ve been sitting at my desk all winter and I know I’ll be a bit short of breath when I start hiking again. Any suggestions are welcome.

Sparks

Ex-PH2…Haven’t been yet but I understand they start me off slowly with mostly walking while always monitoring my EKG remotely. Then as strength and stamina progress they add different exercise machines. The last thing being at the 12 week mark when they start upper body strengthening. I have to wait that long to be sure my sternum is well healed and not in danger of sternal dehiscence. (Not a pretty problem to fix from what I have been told.)

3/17 Air Cav

EX……..for cardio, I use a Bowflex Treadclimber for 45 minutes. I follow up with lifting weights on my Bowflex.

The Treadclimber is the compact model. Does not take up a lot of space. I know you like old movies. So do I. Just time the workout around a movie like the Quiet man, and the time just flys by!

Since I live here in Bernath country. I’m thinking of taking a road trip to see Claw and Sparks. That will be when my personal situation changes here one way or another.

Take Care All!

Big Steve

Your attitude is good, which is a big part of the battle when it come to medical problems.
Just keep getting better and better, my brother-in-arms.

WrenchS2/S3

Sparks, welcome to the club! I had 4 new hoses put on the pump 14 months ago and am doing quite well. The only down side – I used to eat like a predator, now I eat like prey…

Wishing you all the best and you will be amazed at how quickly you’ll rebound with the cardiac rehab program.

Thunderstixx

Four years ago I was #6 on the list for a heart transplant at the Milwaukee VA hospital. I have since recovered much of the original strength of my heart prior to getting the diagnosis of CHF and a host of other things.
My E/F was 15 at that time but has now returned to 45-50 with o surgery whatsoever.
I still have the same heart and it continues to work quite well.
Prayer and medication got me back from another trip to the edge of the abyss…
I only bring this up to let you know that I can empathize with you whatever procedure you had.
The VA saved my life 3 times now and my soul once.
Whatever they tell you, do it. I prayed a lot of Rosaries and that, if nothing else, gave me time to talk to God and calmed my nerves and relieved me from the terror I felt 24/7.
Take care my friend.

charles w

Had my mitral valve replaced 6 weeks ago. The energy will come back. It is amazing what they can do these days. Good luck.

Sparks

Thank you to all of you above for your posts and support. It is a bit of a lonely feeling at times and it is good to read and remember…I’m not the first one to go through this. Thank you all again.

Instinct

Sparks, they had to cut my dad open many years ago. Quad bypass with 80% blockage in all of them.

Funny part was he was in excellent health. The doc looked at him and said “Sir, your cholesterol is normal, weight is good, your active and have no stress in your life. You really shouldn’t be here”

So my dad says “Great, can I go home then?”

“No, were still going to cut you open.”

After the surgery they did rehab and if they said do 15 of the exercise he would do 20. He pushed himself and was out of rehab early and hasn’t had to go back or have any other surgeries because he does what the doc told him to.

So, with any luck and some dedication, hopefully this is the last time you’ll have to deal with it.

OWB

Keep on keeping on is all I an add tonight! Sounds like you are doing all the right things.

SJ

As much as I enjoy the Chevy et al threads, I like these that we can give buds like Sparks a bit of encouragement. Sparks is in the barrel now, one of will be soon. Sparks: 2 salt tablets and drive on!

John Robert Mallernee

“2 salt tablets and drive on!”

SJ, you sound like you might have “been there, done that” with the 101st Airborne in Viet Nam.

That “take two salt tablets and drive on” was part of our instructions from our Black Hat when he was teaching us our very first lesson, “How To Properly Tell A War Story”, in the Screaming Eagle Replacement Training School (i.e., “SERTS”, also called, “P” Training) at Camp Evans, Republic of Viet Nam in June of 1970.

So, who were you with, and when?

I was in the 501st Signal Battalion at Camp Eagle.

Sparks

SJ, thanks my friend. Yes I remember “take 2 salt tablets and drive on” very well. Long ago memories. Thanks for the thoughts.

MrBill

“Revolution 9”. Try getting that out of your head. You’re welcome.

20 plus Navy diver. That is a Navy man that Birdbath doesn’t even rate to lick his boots. Rest easy, warrior.

A Proud Infidel®™

Yeah, he was a Real Man, a Warrior, and a REAL US NAVY CPO!!

Big Steve

Yes, RIP. America, and the world, need more men like this.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Here’s hoping all of you have a great weekend under whatever conditions you find yourself in these days. Hopefully you are comfortable and warm where you are and not expecting a pile of snow as we are here in the Northeast…enjoy your weekend folks.

Sparks

Veritas Omnia Vincit…Thank you Sir. All my best thoughts for you and yours as well. We are at 50 degrees where I am in the Northwest but I live in a unique high desert. We usually have easy winters.

Ex-PH2

Expecting snow in my kingdom. Might get off easy, though.

Just in case, I will set a pot of beans to soak tonight for bean soup.

Sparks

Ex-PH2…As coincidence would have it, I have a crock pot of pinto and red beans soaking right now for tomorrow. Some low fat turkey bacon for flavor, a lot of fresh onion, some garlic and season to taste in my bowl and that’s good eatin’ there! I hope the bad stuff passes you by and you don’t have to shovel.

Pinto Nag

Don’t forget the cornbread! 😉

Sparks

Pinto Nag…Roger That! Goes without saying.

CLAW131

My prediction is no snow for all states that begin with a capitalized vowel.

Do the beans and cornbread involve ham
hocks?

I always eat my beans with a couple of squirts of mustard in the bowl.

Toasty Coastie

@Ex-PH2
Here’s a hearty dinner for Sunday in case you get snowed in 🙂

Adjust recipe accordingly, as this one will serve 4-6 folks..I usually freeze the left overs…

Dublin Coddle

Ingredients
4-6 potatoes (or 4 lbs)
1 lb pork sausages
1 lb thick-cut bacon
3 onions sliced
20 oz ham stock (or beef or chicken will do)
5 oz Guinness
4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Salt and pepper

Directions
Preheat your oven to 300F
Peel your potatoes, quartering the big ones (small can be left whole)
Bring your stock to a simmer
Grill/fry the sausages and bacon until coloured.
Take a heavy, oven safe pot and layer your ingredients in the following order starting at the bottom: onions, bacon, sausages, potatoes. Season and add parsley to each layer.
Pour your stock over the top.
Place your pot on the stove at med high heat. When the liquid comes to a boil, turn off and cover the pot.
Put in the oven for 3-5 hours, but remember to check at 2 hours, adding more stock if necessary.
Serve with cornbread or soda bread.
Enjoy!

Ex-PH2

That sounds like a ribsticker, TC.

Yes, I am making cornbread, plus red bell pepper, celery and carrots to go with the bean soup, and I have leftover roast chicken marinating in the fridge for gravy with bodacious flavor on Sunday night.

Twist

We just got another 10 inches of snow and it is -30 right now. When I try to take my dogs out they give me the look that says “no thanks, I’ll hold it”.

Jordan Rott

A Special Forces Guy, A Ranger, and an Infantry guy go to Delta Tryouts. When they get there, the instructor leads them into a building with a locked door. The instructor tells them that whenever they go through that door they will find their family inside, and they need to go into the room with their M4 and kill them all to pass tryouts. The infantry guy goes in first, and 5 minutes later comes out and hands his M4 to the instructor. “I can’t do it” he says. The instructor tells him to leave and he failed tryouts and hands the M4 to the ranger and says “Your turn.” The ranger goes inside and comes out 10 minutes later, “I can’t do it.” The instructor takes his M4 and tells him to leave and gives it to the SF guy, “Your next” He says. The SF goes in and comes out 2 minutes later, and gives his M4 to the instructor. “I guess you couldn’t do it?” The instructor says. “No,” The SF guy replies, “The rifle jammed so I had to beat them all to death.”

Big Steve

Just visited Bernath’s pathetic website you provided the link for.
Crap, look at what a geek he was even when he was young.
And even a dummy like me was able to spot a number of words that the supposedly brilliant and accomplished Mr. Bernath can’t even spell correctly.

Those minor issues notwithstanding, he is one sick puppy. Seriously. Not grounded in reality at all. The Mental Health section of the Portland Oregon VA could possibly help him, but first he has to be self aware enough to know he needs help.

Flagwaver

I think Medford would be a better place for him. That’s where the in-patient funny farm is. The one that the 72-hour holds and “permanent” holds are kept at for the VA.

Ex-PH2

Well, if he’s angling for a little something extra in his ‘disability’ cart, he’s taking the wrong tactic.

He is not, never has been and never will be clever enough to fool anyone but himself. There is too much stuff to counter any argument he might present.

Flagwaver

He fooled his wife… and Witgenfeld and Wickre. Well, the last two doesn’t really take much.

Most of the time, I slept comfortably and warmly. But, thrice (03), I had to go to the Emergency Room because of excruciating pain or trouble with my innards. Medicare sure came in handy! A couple of times, it got so cold that I was very uncomfortable, even in my Army surplus sleeping bag. Sometimes, it was difficult answering the call of Nature while avoiding other people seeing me. I need a brainstorming favor. I’m doing a project on Stolen Valor for my Master’s program. I’m looking for examples where phonies based their scam on a movie character, or flat out said they were the inspiration for a character in a movie. Here is the list I came up with so far:
Jim Moats-based his scam on Steven Seagal in Under Siege
Jeff “Rock” Harris-Claimed to be soldier from Blackhawk Down with leg wound (Cpl Jamie Smith)
David Groves-Claimed stories from Apocalypse Now/and look of Tex Cobb in Uncommon Valor
Rick FIne-Tom Berrenger/Sniper

I know we’ve had other fakers who basically lifted plots and claimed them as their life story. Any other examples are greatly appreciated.

John Robert Mallernee

I like to think that whoever created the character, FORREST GUMP, had followed me around, but changed the names, places, events, et cetera, due to all the uncanny parallels in my own personal life.

Also, the attempted fragging depicted in, “CASUALTIES OF WAR”, really did happen to me, but under different circumstances than shown in the movie.

She is okay, she got out of the back end of her car, but I will repeat what the police told me a LONG time ago: do not drive with your doors unlocked. Ever Period.

And I will add, even if you have a gun, keep all of your car doors locked even in daylight.

Additionally, do NOT leave your purse in sight in your car at a gas pump. Thieves will drive up and steal it right out your car while you aren’t watching.

Or find another place to live. Believe it or not, there are many places remaining in the country where violent crime is relatively rare and, when it occurs, is not a random act between strangers on the street. I have lived and worked in high-crime areas and I will never, ever return to one of them. I now live where a drive-by is a few teenagers in a pickup cruising down a street and whacking a few mailboxes with a bat.

It’s the same weather here in NoVA – rain, rain, rain. No sleet or anything; just rain all the time. :o(

A Proud Infidel®™

HEY, you don’t have to shovel rain off of your sidewalk, your driveway or scrape it off of your windshield!! 😀

Big Steve

I’ll take rain any day of the week (and twice on Sunday) over snow and ice. Not only are snow and ice work to deal with, but they are messy, dangerous crap.

Don’t get me started.. 🙂

*Laughing* Are he and his imbecilic accomplices still offering that amount of dinero for my true identity? SHIT, Whatshisface would have to sell off his junky jags at at least three times what they’re worth to come up with that kind of cash, I’m sure they’d welch just like Phildo did with Psulmer McSoiledspandex!!!

More qualified to be POTUS than another Chicagoan we know, albeit not the nice guy depicted in the press.

Jonn, you are far too benevolent. Bernath didn’t fail in his latest legal pursuit because he was lazy, it’s because he’s inept.

NHSparky

Bobo–both certainly couple apply, although I’d agree ineptitude certainly played the larger degree.

Hell, ineptitude and laziness are close relatives of each other. Look no farther than his piloting “skills” as evidence of such.

God only knows how he hasn’t pancaked himself into a greasy spot somewhere. Maybe He really does look over fools and drunks.

A fact for which Bernath, DullASS, and the rest of the Dutch Rudder Club should give thanks on a daily basis.

Last week I noted the upcoming funeral of SGT Gilberto Sanchez, who was lost during the Korean War and only recently returned to his family. Today there’s a nice report of his funeral:

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/article/Korean-war-medic-missing-since-1950-buried-at-6035577.php#photo-7428617

The newspaper’s pay site has an expanded version of the article with additional information and photos, but this gives you some idea of it. The man in the wheelchair who was presented the flag is his brother, MSG Benjamin Sanchez, 85, who also served in Korea. The white-haired man in the dark coat in the fifth photo is another brother, Pablo Sanchez, 95. His mother lived to 104 and never gave up hope that he would come home. What a blessing it is that his family was finally able to lay him to rest.

The Other Whitey

I watched “The Interview” last night. It was pretty funny overall. Idiot humor, but funny nonetheless. It also featured a fair amount of Norks falling in a hail of righteous gunfire, plus a hot Asian chick going to town with an RPD, which was nice.

And the best part? Thanks to a tip from a coworker, I streamed it for free off rainiertamayo.com! Probably illegal, but given Rogen’s recent chickenshit, I have no moral problem with taking money out of his pocket.

The web site also had “American Sniper” available, but I skipped it for the same reason. I won’t pay to see Seth Rogen, but I would happily pay double to see Chris Kyle’s story–hopefully seeing it this weekend.

John Robert Mallernee

I just finished watching, “UNBROKEN”, at that web site.

It’s a movie I highly recommend.

The Other Whitey

I saw it too, but I paid for that one. Louis Zamperini shaved more manhood off his face every morning than I can ever hope to possess.

That site will be pretty much the only medium through which I might ever see a new Liam Neeson movie, for the same reason as Seth Rogen.

A Proud Infidel®™

I saw “American Sniper” last week, I definitely think it’s worth seeing in a theater, especially one that serves beer!

DUTCH

I would imagine that this will get lost in the shuffle, but feel it needs to be said.

My son left the Army 2 yrs ago as a SGT after 8-1/2 yrs of service, including two tours in Iraq. He have his younger sister one of his Army jackets as a memento of his service.

She called me the other night, almost in tears. She was wearing the jacket at Kroger when some clown came up and made a big scene in front of a whole bunch of people. He asked if she was in the Army; and when he found out that she wasn’t/isn’t, he shouted that she is not allowed to wear that jacket without a full uniform. She tried to explain that it was given to her by her brother who had served two tours in Iraq; but he would have none of it, and told her to tell her brother that he should not have given it to her to wear.

She was ready to tell him to fook off, but saw that he had an approximately 7 yr old daughter with him; so she took the high road and just walked away.

I sent a photo of the jacket to a retired Navy O-6 to ask him about it. I’ll post his comments in a reply to this message.

DUTCH

My retired Navy O-6 friend sent the following response before he saw the photo of the jacket:

“Did your son go through jump school? Did he become a member of Airborne? Some of those guys get wound up over someone wearing the insignia. F’em.

“The guy was an asshole. She should have yelled/screamed for help and stated repeatedly, “I am afraid of this man. I am afraid he is about to hurt me. I don’t know who he is.” The asshole had no right to harass her. none. The stolen valor only comes into play is someone is claiming to be something they are not…the pretender. She was wearing it out of respect for her brother and by extension, everyone who serves.

“Send me pics. Usually rank is not Velcroed except for camis and its not on the sleeve.

“He could have politely struck up a conversation, learned the source, thanked her for supporting her brother and let her know to be careful about assholes.”

DUTCH

The jacket did have a US Army, rank and name tapes on the chest. After my O-6 friend saw a photo of the jacket, he sent the following:

“I would recommend to her to sew the rank and name tape on the inside front of the jacket. Something she’ll see every time she puts it on and takes it off. She should wear it more often at the grocery store. Carry pepper Foam (not spray) to zap the jerk. Foam is good because she won’t get fragged by the mist of a spray. He brother can teach her how to use it.”

Nuff said!

2/17 Air Cav

Yeah, my sister was a nun. When I wore her old habit–out of respect for her–I got some shit sometimes, too, especially when I wasn’t clean shaven. I got tired of it so now I wear a shirt that reads, “Proud brother of a nun.” That covers it.

Flagwaver

That’s kind of funny. There was a nun in my old Parish that often wore a t-shirt that said ‘Nun of your business’ when she was out and about with the youth group, especially on beach-trips.

2/17 Air Cav

Well, I kind of meant it to be, while making a point. We have seen too many people who claimed that they were wearing their brother’s medals to honor them. The problem is that they lead everyone to believe the medals are theirs, until they’re caught. This doesn’t apply to the young lady but I would hope she and others in sympathy with her would understand that the rule is, “Wear ’em only if you earned ’em.”

DUTCH

There were no medals or awards on the jacket.

DUTCH

And the rank and name tapes have since been removed to be sewn on the inside of the jacket where she only will see them and be reminded of her brother’s service.

2/17 Air Cav

Well, Dutch, to be crystal clear, if the fellow who confronted her acted like an ass, then he acted like an ass. After I ETS’ed, I wore my fatigue jacket with blue jeans and my appearance was not what anyone would mistake for military. Yes, it was my jacket, but it most certainly was not up to buddy boy’s reported standards so I guess he and I would have had a beef back then. As a rule, I’d say, no Veteran would have berated your young lady, especially in public. I would not be surprised to learn that he was a reject or a wannabe himself.

DUTCH

I told her she should have asked in what branch of the military, his rank and where he served. Maybe next time. She was too upset by the scene to be thinking clearly; but she obviously handled it better than I would have.

OWB

Good plan, DUTCH. Wearing with name and rank exposed is probably technically wrong, and not advisable these days but not worthy of such a bad reaction.

Agree with the others who said that this “vet” was way out of line. Had most of us been in the area, there would likely have been a few clear instructions made on-the-spot. To neutralize the situation.

Is this what we get when the Supremes told every vet out there to pretty much do this sort of thing?

DUTCH

I all probability, her brother should have pulled the tapes when he gave her the jacket. Without the tapes, it just pretty much looks like a plain old grey fleece jacket.

I know that she felt a lot better about the whole situation when she read the comments and suggestions of my retired O-6 friend; and I think it turned out to be a good learning experience for all of us on this side of the story.

Thanks all here for the support, too!

I shave a request for the TAH community. A frequent commentator to this blog is suffering financial distress. He unfortunately has been out of work for two years this June, and his wife recently lost her job. He has a BSEE from Catholic University, an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, and an MS Law in Federal Contracting. He also excels at personnel management, and is quite talented when it comes to Internet marketing. He has an urgent need to raise $10,000 as soon as possible. If anyone on the blog knows anyone in the Bethesda area that can use this man’s skills to clean their gutters or spin one of those arrow signs announcing condo openings, please let me know, and I will pass it on.

Contact me or have him do it. Thanx

There surely must be a KMart closing nearby, one where he could stand out at the street corner with a sign that announces the ‘end of business clearance sale’ to all passersby.

There is also collecting smashed soda and cat food cans for cash recycling and, in addition to finding stray quantities of copper wiring here and there. Copper brings a higher recycling cash price than aluminum or steel, but he must be careful to not investigate private dwellings.

Lastly, there are plenty of stables still available in the WDC/MD/VA area. I’m sure that if he looked around, he could rind some facility that needs stalls cleaned and rebedded.

Green Thumb

I am sure there are some balls that need worked in the immediate area.

As I’m typing this, the time in Jensen, Utah is 2200 Hours plus 0008 Minutes on Sunday 25 January 2015.

Today was the two hundred and fifty-sixth (256) birthday of ROBERT BURNS ! ! !

If I had gone to church this morning, I should have worn my clan’s kilt and plaid, with full Highland regalia.

Ah, well, maybe next year – – – ?

“SCOTS WHA HAE”

By: ROBERT BURNS

Scots, wha hae wi’ Wallace bled,
Scots, wham Bruce has aften led;
Welcome to your gory bed,
Or to victory!
Now’s the day, and now’s the hour;
See the front o’ battle lour;
See approach proud Edward’s power—
Chains and slavery!

Wha will be a traitor knave?
Wha can fill a coward’s grave!
Wha sae base as be a slave?
Let him turn and flee!
Wha for Scotland’s king and law
Freedom’s sword will strongly draw,
Freeman stand, or freeman fa’,
Let him follow me!

By oppression’s woes and pains!
By your sons in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest veins,
But they shall be free!
Lay the proud usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty’s in every blow!—
Let us do or die!

John Robert Mallernee

“AS OTHERS SEE US”

First, there were the Scots,
Who kept the Sabbath,
And everything else
They could get their hands on.

Next, there were the Welsh,
Who prayed on their knees,
And preyed on their neighbors.

Then, there were the Irish,
Who didn’t know quite what they wanted,
But, were ready to fight
For it anyway.

Finally, there were the English,
Who considered themselves
A self-made people,
Thus, relieving the Almighty
Of a dreadful responsibility!

Just now, at the GUNS SAVE LIVES web site, I learned about VERY dangerous proposed congressional legislation, H.R.378, which will make ownership of body armor by an ordinary private citizen a federal felony, punishable by ten (10) years in the penitentiary.

The official United States government URL is:

https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/378

H. R. 378 – 114th Congress (2015-2016), “TO PROHIBIT THE PURCHASE, OWNERSHIP, OR POSSESSION OF ENHANCED BODY ARMOR BY CIVILIANS, WITH EXCEPTIONS”, is sponsored by Representative Michael M. Honda, Democrat, California, representing the Seventeenth Congressional District, and was introduced into the United States House of Representatives on Wednesday 14 January 2015, where it is currently before the House Judiciary Committee.

It is co-sponsored by Representative Alcee Hastings, Democrat, Twentieth District, Florida, Representative Robin L. Kelly, Democrat, Second District, Illinois, and Representative Danny K. Davis, Democrat, Seventh District, Illinois.
