Washington Post: PTS killed Chris Kyle
Abby Phillip, a general assignment national reporter for the Washington Post has determined that Eddie Routh, the fellow who shot and killed Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield almost a year ago, did it because of PTS, you know, regardless of the evidence to the contrary.
A 2014 study found that veterans who had problems with PTSD or alcohol abuse were seven times more likely to engage in acts of “severe violence” than other veterans. And in 2011, a New York Times analysis of some of those cases found dozens of examples of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans accused of murder; some of the veterans even turned weapons on themselves.
There are no current and official nationwide statistics about veterans who enter the criminal justice system.
While there are efforts to create alternative courts and sentencing guidelines for veterans accused of crimes who suffer from PTSD and combat-related mental illnesses, those efforts have been slow to apply to those accused of serious violent crimes.
“Violent crimes are excluded, which to me is a real shame; you should look at it case by case,” said Duncan MacVicar, a retired Vietnam veteran who began working with California jurisdictions to establish veteran treatment courts in the state. “Is it really true that someone with PTSD can commit a crime because of that problem? I can guarantee you that it’s true.”
Experts who treat PTS daily, agree that violent and criminal behavior itn’t necessarily caused by Post-Traumatic Stress. Veterans who suffer from PTS are more likely to turn their violence inward on themselves than to harm other people. PTS is an excuse more often manufactured by people who want sympathy from their victims and the public at large who are willing to believe that they are victims of the evil military rather than look for more accurate, more believable excuses.
Routh, for example, is said to have been a unit armorer and a vehicle mechanic who never left the wire during his time in Iraq, but the Washington Post and Abby Phillip find it easier to believe that he was traumatized by his military service, regardless of the fact that real PTS experts would disagree with them.
Classmates of Routh told the New Yorker that he was a “standard troublemaker” who “didn’t show a whole lot of respect” for the teachers, even as far back as high school before he joined the Marines. Workmates said “Routh was “always ready to fight” and “had a chip on his shoulder.” But, you know, it was PTS that made him a murderer, even though there are thousands of veterans who really saw bad stuff in real war who are suffering from PTS who don’t kill anyone every day – many have been functioning normally for decades, Abby Phillip and the Washington post are shitting on those good veterans while they try to tear down good soldiers like Chris Kyle and the millions of veterans who behave themselves every day.

Let me guess, Ms. Phillips thinks the hurt locker is one of the greatest war documentaries of all time.
(I refuse to capitalize the name of that movie)
Edward R. Murrow, Kate Webb, Ernie Pyle, Michael Herr & Marguerite Higgins all piss on this ignorant, unskilled, cowardly, spasmodic hectic shill reporter.
“[V]eterans who had problems with PTSD or alcohol abuse were seven times more likely to engage in acts of “severe violence” than other veterans.” Well, there you go. Separate the PTSD from the alcohol and the results will be starkly different. Alcohol is the 300 lb gorilla. It is behind a great deal of violence, from domestic abuse to killings, whether Veteran or not.
Agreed, one exacerbates the other regardless of which came first. Remove those who were under the influence of Drugs or Alcohol when they committed the crime that put them in prison and 77% less people would be there.
I’m going to quote comedian Auggie Smith; even though this is no laughing matter.
“Stop blaming the alcohol, if your an asshole when you’re drunk it’s because you’re an asshole. There’s no magic equation of add alcohol make asshole.”
That sums up my opinion on folks who choose to blame alcohol for being murderers, spouse abusers, or just plain assholes.
Agreed alcohol doesn’t create bad moral character it reveals it….
Sorry, alcohol is a mood altering drug. ANY mood altering drug can affect your ability to make decisions and lower inhibitions. Translation: yes, you will do things under the influence of alchohol you would not normally do otherwise.
Not quite, alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, not a hallucinogen or mood altering drug. it doesn’t create a new personality or personality traits in someone. It only lowers inhibitions and allows a person to do things they typically would not do because they know they shouldn’t.
Wrong sunshine, on many levels.
Alcohol is clinically recognized as a mood altering substance that brings about changes in brain chemistry. It does not alter behavior by simple lowering inhibitions and/or unmasking a person’s ‘true’ self.
And no, I will not provide the literature, studies, and organizations that have proven this, anymore than you have provided information or evidence to support your opinion.
I’ll only say that the studies and findings exist, they are easy to find, and if you really care about whether or not you’re giving false information, you can go do your own research.
I will have to agree to disagree with you on this one “sunshine.” I can Find just as much literature to support my side as yours. The majority of my argumemt is from the courses I have taken and personal experience to include over 12 years as a police officer.
Cheers
Yep, I agree to disagree, because I find it amusing to think that 12 years as a cop is just like someone having a degree in neurochemisty.
😉
Im reminded of AWOLNation’s song Sail. Doesn’t matter what anyone does today, we will blame it on other circumstances rather then personal responsibility. catching the ptsd is the go to scape goat. Ive never met an infantryman that claims that shit, but im starting to think that the ptsd got out and infected people through the chow hall food. Thats why the infantry guys were safe, we were stuck with mres and hadji food.
Being under the influence of Drugs or Alcohol does not exclude someone from being held accountable for their actions. Their use impairs the ability to use intellect over emotion. When my mother-in-law start to bitch too much I ‘feel’ like pissing in her shoes but decide not to. Get me drunk enough and see what happens. (She thinks its been the dog all this time.)
A MURDERER killed Chris Kyle, not a psychiatric diagnosis. Mental illness is not an excuse for bad behavior.
Oh, and Abby dear…the only victims of anything to do with the Kyle murder are Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield. Your pet Pulitzer project murderer Routh needs to ride the lightening. Period.
The word ‘victim’ does not mean what you think it means.
Sociopaths are always quick to use any excuse. They’re the victim after all. Prison is full of innocent people.
I hope that motherfucker Eddie Routh gets killed by a firing squad of Chris Kyles family with nothing but rocks and other assorted small heavy objects. All these POS that want to claim they are SEALS when they spent 3 months in the military should’ve been in Chris Kyles spot that day. I wish they would’ve never even come up with the diagnosis PTSD. All it has become is an excuse for people to up their disability percentage and for lawyers to use when people fuck up. Then, the worst part of it, is the people who have PTSD just deal with it or are getting fucked over by people who had a mortar round go off 700 meters away from them but are somehow more important then the person who had their buddy get shot in the face next to them, so the VA is putting the mortar guy ahead of the guy who actually saw some shit. The fact that Eddie Routh even got to go out with Chris Kyle when their were probably 10 amputees waiting to go hang out with him and couldn’t because the Armorer Eddie Routh who saw so much terrible shit never going outside the wire was out getting help with his “PTSD” just makes me so fucking angry. Fuck Abby Phillip and Fuck Eddie Routh.
Routh said he killed Kyle to get his pickup truck.
Using PTSD as an excuse for robbery and murder is beyond lame.
Phillip is dead wrong.
End of story.
Oh, yeah – Seth Rogen is attempting to apologize for his crass remarks about the movie, claiming he was ‘misunderstood’. Uh, no. I graduated from 1st grade, Seth, you slob. I can read English, as can a lot of other people.
Ex,
Hopefully Phillip will soon be just “dead”.
Ans as for Rogen and the rest of that hollywierd Libtard crowd, that “think” a fart is the funniest joke ever — faqheem.
Naw, Texas will let him ride his sentencing out for a number of years before they stick a needle in his ass. all in the name of proving his innocence after he’s been convicted and shipped to whatever named housing unit at Huntsville.
Bunch of crap.
Routh was a REMF, PSD my ass. He was an unsettled trouble maker even before he joined the Corps.
Probably a jealous POS.
Damn, I think of people like John McCain and others who suffered a hell of a lot worse than most ever will and yet never let PTSD; which I’m sure a lot of them had/have, be an excuse.
Not buying it, quit writing stupid shit and try writing the plain obvious truth. Chief Kyle was killed by a murderer; plain and simple.
Well looking at this the big lesson is don’t take guys with a mental health issue to the gun range as a therapeutic option…it didn’t work out well with Adam Lanza and it sure didn’t work out well with Routh….
You wanna help a whack job come back down to earth, take him fly fishing and don’t let him near any sharp stuff…
The tragedy in both cases was a lack of appropriate mental health response.
Um, you said don’t let ’em near sharp objects, right? As I recall, fishing involves using sharp objects to gut and clean fish as well hook ’em. Just saying….8-)
Give them the net and let them watch you fish.
Egads. Using statistics in such cavalier and skewed ways just makes this reporter, or whatever she is, look stupid, unethical, and ridiculous.
“…problems with PTSD or alcohol abuse were seven times more likely to engage…”
Is that anything like saying, “People who eat breakfast or dinner are seven times more likely to be overweight than people who don’t eat?” Or, “Idiots who drink liberal Koolaid are twelve times more likely to act stupid in public than normal people?”
How about, “Criminals who illegally own guns or abuse illegal drugs are more likely to commit illegal acts than do non-criminals and non-drug abusers.”
The profundity of her blathering does not exist. That will not keep like minded fools from repeating it.
Hell, even if Routh did suffer from some form of PTSD, he STILL needs to ride the lightening.
Mental illness is not a blanket excuse for illegal behavior.
I hate how these “people” claim PTS. I also hate how phonies claim it to get paid. After years of arguments with my wife she finally get fed up with it and drug my a $$ to post where I was diagnosed. The first question I was asked was if I thought I had it to which I replied no. When asked why I didn’t think so I replied that I don’t want it. She told me that I was the first person in her career that replied that way. I will make the phonies a deal, they can have whatever VA compensation I may get as long as they take the PTS with it. My wife would love it if I don’t have it anymore.
Sorry for the rant.
Amen brother, amen.
funny, I don’t see a lot of medical background for Abby Phillips… maybe she went to med school under a different name….
Abby Phillip sounds like your everyday typical conceited pinkie-in-the-air, latte-sipping snotnosed candyass of a Care Bear crotch-sniffing, unicorn-lusting Sparkle Pony liberal with less brains and common sense than an inbred lobotomized cross eyed buck-toothed Swamp Donkey! Abby Phillip is toeing the left’s editorial agenda, I wonder how much more we’ll see crap like this being excreted by the liberal media like shit from a flock of geese, and I wonder if this isn’t the beginning of another gun-grabbing campaign by the left focused on us Veterans with us being tarred as kill-crazy nuts?

He said more, and I thought it was worth sharing again:

I went to the trouble to read the article, sign up for an account, and write a response similar to most above. I also included my view that most of the posters were lemmings and too ignorant of the subject matter to comment, to include the author. I did also use the words shitbird (with appropriate characters replacing letters) and pogue and fobbit, so maybe that was too over the top for them. Personally, I think it was too far outside the scope of what their thought police felt comfortable with. My comment was gone in ten minutes.
The killer’s atty is complaining that his client, the murderer, may be unable seat an unbiased jury b/c of the the movie, American Sniper. That’s rich. It really is, especially when the killer is using the insanity defense. In other words, there will be no dispute as to whether the guy killed. The issue will hinge on the expert battle as to whether the killer was insane when he murdered Kyle and Chad Littlefield. For that, I guess the atty wants jurors who don’t read books, follow the news, or go to certain movies. BTW, the movie has regenerated book sales of American Sniper. It is in the sales stratosphere all over right now.
