Wednesday feel good story

| December 17, 2014

Today’s first feel good story comes from Florida;

Police believe the victim attempted to break into the apartment through the front door.

“It appears the homeowner was woken up by someone coming into the apartment, retrieved a firearm and shot and killed the person coming in the apartment,” said JSO Sgt. Jay Farhat.

The tenant had no injuries, and investigators said it doesn’t appear that there was a fight.

Chief Tango sends us some more stories, the first from Alabama. Scotty sent us this one, too;

A home surveillance system captured video of the suspects breaking into the Wyatt family home on Gobbler Knob Road on Friday afternoon.

The surveillance video shows a woman knocking on the family’s home.

When no one answered, a male accomplice kicked the door open. The woman and two men helped themselves to two TVs and several of the family’s Christmas presents, including gifts for their 1-year old-son.

The three suspects then drove away in a black Ford Ranger pickup truck.

[…]

Two days later, around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, deputies investigated a second burglary, this one in the 1600 block of New Bethel School Road.

The victim said someone forced open the door to his home and stole a computer monitor, trumpet, knife collection and jewelry, according to Chief Deputy Randy Christian.

While deputies were still on the scene investigating the second burglary, the Wyatts called the sheriff’s office to say they had found the suspects who broke into their home and were holding them at gunpoint.

Sarah Wyatt said that by chance, her husband Chris and other relatives recognized the suspects and apprehended them on Sunday afternoon.

“They happened to drive by and we seen them drive by and we knew it was them and we stopped them,” Chris Wyatt said.

The sheriff’s office says Wyatt followed the suspects’ vehicle as they turned down Gobbler’s Knob Mine Road and blocked them in. He and his friends then held them at gunpoint until deputies could get to the scene, Christian said.

Another from Florida;

The victim ran to a security guard and said a man, later identified as Ben-Belarrio Ulysse, 28, of Lantana, pointed a gun at him. The victim said he then pulled out his own gun because he was in fear for his life, according to the report.

The victim told deputies Ulysse initially got on the ground, but jumped up and ran, leaving the gun, a .38-caliber revolver, behind.

Another man in the area, who said Ulysse also held a gun to his neck and stole about $900, said he recognized Ulysse because Ulysse frequently walks around the area.

The next story came from Georgia;

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police say it happened in the first block of Weiner Drive around 11 a.m. Saturday morning. They say 50-year-old Steven Neal was intoxicated when he arrived at the home and the 67-year-old owner told him twice to leave. Neal then kicked in the door while threatening him.

The homeowner shot Neal in his hand.

The next is from New Mexico;

Luciano Acuna, 24, pointed a gun at store employees and demanded cash from them. Police say that when he became distracted, one employee grabbed a gun and fired several shots, hitting Acuna in the head, killing him.

Police said the employee likely won’t be facing any charges for the shooting.

In August, employees at the Oasis smoke shop in Albuquerque shot and killed William Corrie who was also attempted to rob store employees using a gun. No charges have been filed in that case.

Finally, the last story comes from North Carolina;

Joseph Jaccob heard a loud bang at the front door. It was 5 a.m. Sunday.
He ran out of the bedroom, meeting his aunt in the hallway. They both worried his aunt’s 88-year-old mother had fallen down the stairs.
The bottom of the front door bowed as another bang came. The door flew open and three dark figures appeared in the doorway. One ran into the house. Jaccob could see one of them held a gun.
An Army veteran, Jaccob, 25, followed his first instincts and ran to his bedroom for his shotgun. With his aunt screaming, Jaccob aimed his gun at the front door. A man on the steps outside yelled, “He’s got a gun.”
The man outside fired his rifle, leaving two bullet holes in the side of the stairway just inches away from where Jaccob’s aunt was standing.
Jaccob fired back.
The robbers ran. Police said Sunday there probably were three involved. Police tracked down one suspected robber and learned he had been shot. Police found out he had been treated for a gunshot wound to his shoulder in a hospital more than an hour away.

My goodness, Chief, you have been a busy little bee!

Glad those stories had happy endings.

I like how in the last story the suspect went to a hospital an hour away for treatment for a shotgun wound to the shoulder, too bad it couldn’t have been like five hours. But an hour with a wound from a shotgun has got to sting just a tad bit. But, with practice there is no need for treatment.
