Remembrance of Elections Past
In “loving” memory of the Duke of Duval, Landslide Lyndon, Da Mayor and his Daley Machine, JFK/1960 – and with apologies to the late Warren Zevon:
They Vote When They’re Dead
There’s plenty to do after they buy the farm
They vote when they’re dead
Who says it’s wrong? This will protect our cause from harm
They vote when they’re dead
The election judges all are bombed on gin
They vote when they’re dead
Election results, they’re twisted again
They vote when they’re dead
Well, they “cast” their votes just as prescribed
They vote when they’re dead
And if that don’t work, then somebody gets bribed
They vote when they’re dead
I’ve got a .38 special up on the shelf
They vote when they’re dead
If our side don’t win, maybe I’ll shoot myself
They vote when they’re dead
There’s plenty to do after they buy the farm
They vote when they’re dead
Who says it’s wrong? This will protect our cause from harm
They vote when they’re dead
Remember that “progressive” mantra, everyone: Make sure you register to vote. Then vote early, vote often – vote forever!
. . .
PS: Just in case you’re having trouble recognizing the tune – here’s the original.
Category: Pointless blather, Satire, Who knows
sometimes i wonder why i bother voting when some dead guy up in Chicago will cancel it out anyway.
this state needs a voter ID law.
No, korea95 – ALL STATES need a voter ID law. And it needs to apply during registration as well as voting.
like X1000, Hondo.
Hondo…THANK YOU SIR!!! Yes indeed.
Hold on a minute there; you mean I have to prove who I am to vote? What the hell? I thought I only had to do that to buy beer, smokes, anything a bank finances, get on base, buy something on base, pick my kids up from school, when stopped by a police officer, or use my credit card. BUT NOT TO VOTE, THAT’S INSANE AND A VIOLATION OF MY RIGHTS!
//sarc//
Did anyone besides me get the news story that about 6000 election judges in Chicago were hit with robocalls telling them they hadn’t had enough training and were not qualified to sit in as election judges? It was, of course, untrue, but about 2,000 for various precincts stayed away, delaying precinct openings and making people stand outside in the cold weather.
It is grossly illegal to do that, of course, and it’s being investigated, but this does sound suspiciously like the Chicago machine at work.
Been teaching my 8 yr old grandson about voting since I am watching him while school is off today. Just not sure how I am supposed to justify voting for the lesser of two evils…sigh
Took him with me to vote, I was surprised they let him watch me fill out the ballot! Of course on the way home I had to explain a protest vote lol, that was interesting 🙁
the short funeral comment above reminds me of the hanging of a famous outlaw… the sheriff was nervous and fumbled a bit – he told the outlaw “please excuse me, it’s my first hanging” The outlaw said “Mine, too.”
ROFLMAO!!! 😀
For those who are able and willing, voting with one’s feet does help. I did it. Jonn did it. Others have done it. At some point, the notion that staying and trying to change something from within becomes a fool’s wish. I wouldn’t live in NY, MD, MA, ME, CT, or a number of other states if you gave me a free home and paid my property taxes.
I was working as a civilian for DoD in Maryland and hated the place enough to pay to move the family all the way back to Texas. I had to stay in the job a year to avoid repaying my initial moving expenses – I put in my notice at 54 weeks to the day. Lived or worked here 25 years since then. I won’t even interview in CA, OR, WA, NY, MD. MA, or IL.
Voter ID – Yep! Term limits for Congresscritters – Yep!
Neither will likely happen while I’m still able to vote… So I’m passing the torch.
BTW, Just got back from Voting.
I never took campaign dirty tricks seriously until I was in law school, and watched both sides lose their heads over an election to a student committee. I can think of no elective position less important than this, and yet these allegedly smart people were cheating with zest and vigor. Both sides.
Ever since then, I have believed in strict security of the electoral process, because I know that somebody, somewhere, is going to go nuts over it.
Like the saying goes “My Great Uncle up in Chicago ALWAYS voted Republican till the day he died, now he votes demo-rat every time!”.
Did my duty, put my ballot into the slot, watched it go into the box for counting, and gave the pen back to the judge, who, by the way, checked to make sure the ballot was initialzed properly before I put it into the slot.
Then I came home and made cookies.
