Filipino peacekeepers defied orders from UN
The other day we mentioned how Filipino peacekeepers, with the help of an Irish quick reaction force, escaped al Qaeda insurgents on the Golan Heights. Today the Associated Press reports that commander of those Filipinos is charging that their United Nations commander had ordered them to surrender to the Syrian rebels;
Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang said he advised the 40 Filipino peacekeepers not to lay down their arms, and they defied the U.N. peacekeeping commander’s order. Instead, they staged a daring escape from the Golan camp over the weekend, ending a tense, dayslong standoff.
[…]
Forty-five Fijian peacekeepers who surrendered their firearms to the rebels last week are still being held by the al-Qaida-linked insurgents.
[…]
UNDOF did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
Catapang said an investigation would allow the UNDOF commander to explain his side and the Philippine military to explain why it advised the Filipino peacekeepers to defy his order.
Therein lies the problem of the UN – they don’t give a tiny rat’s ass about any troops. There’s no loyalty to soldiers under their command. Apparently, the commander thought that he could trade the Filipinos for the Fijians in a diplomatic negotiation coup and score big points with the UN civilian structure. The Filipinos were outnumbered more than 2-to-one by the al Qaeda Syrian rebels yet they still successfully held them off until they could be evacuated by the Irish armored vehicles.

Jesus Christ. The U.N is the most worthless institution on the planet. They’re a bunch of money hungry opportunists and nothing more. They don’t stand for anything. Worthless fucks.
C to G:
I disagree. The problem with the UN isn’t that it’s worthless, it’s that it is actively evil.
The UN serves no purpose except to ensure that the poorer nations stay poor and that the more brutally run nations remain firmly in the grasp of the brutalizers.
Yep that’s the UN we know and…hate. The decision makers are cowards every one of them. I am sure the commander was giving the surrender orders from a safe distance. No skin off his nose and no skin in the game. That is why I have said for decades, if we do anything as part of a UN combat effort, WE are the commanders in charge. If not, screw them and go it alone or with France…same thing. Not some dipshit coward. They cost lives and they have proved it in most every effort the U.S. has been involved in. Diplomacy belongs in a room at a conference table not on the battlefield. When the UN is involved every decision becomes a diplomatic one instead of a battlefield decision. Screw the UN and any nation who lets them lead their forces into any combat effort is going to lose lives. The UN is and was suppose to be a diplomatic and peace supporting agency no one with the capabilities to wage war. They are out of their league when it comes to “peace keeping efforts”. Because as soon as armed soldiers become part of the peace keeping, the UN always chooses some kiss ass, pansy ass to lead the force. Someone who will keep them up to date first and follow their every hand wringing decision.

“Guess the Irish troops are the mission’s quick reaction force (good choice, by the way) and they were able to extract all of the Filipinos without casualties”.
The Irish speciality units have for hundreds of years been the front line troops of choise for many nations. Continental Army, US, Britain, France, Cananada, Australia to name only a few.
Fighting is in their DNA. In modern day Ireland only the best serve in their DF and it is not uncommon to find Irish Counter-Terror Bubbas training and operating US SPEC OPS, SAS, SBS, GERMAN WAFFEN SEAL TYPES, the POLS, NORWAY’s WINTER WARFARE GODs, CANOOKs and AUSSIE SAS!

As my late Father would say, in reference to the UN in general; “they’re about as useless as tits on a bull!”
Then he would love to further say to the UN (excluding the Irish, of course) with a big smile; “Pogue Mahone” – kiss my ass.
Like the US, Irish forces do not serve under UN command. They are OPCON with command residing through national chanels
Umm. If you are going to use a country’s name in your post. At least make sure it is spelt right. No where on any map or globe will you find a country called Cananada. One too many ‘an’ in the middle Canada.
Thank you
Almost as grievous as screwed up punctuation, isn’t it?
Spelt?
Either you’re referring to wheat or you’re British.
Either way you’re a knob.
I say Canadia. Drives people crazy.
Canuckistan.
Way to go Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang.
We need more like you, especially here.
Salute.
Great job by the Filipino and Irish troops. Screw the UN and their continuing policies of victimization.
I wonder why the commander is not named?
The UN wouldn’t want to hurt his feelings, would they?
UN commander: Fight to the death.
Filipino commander: If we die in battle, do we each get 72 virgins.
UN commander: Only if you are of the Muslim belief.
Filipino commander: Break out the white flag.
Did you even read the article?
I would sign up the Commander immediately.
Sounds like a good man.
Since when hasn’t the United Nothing been a ginormous whorehouse full of corrupt little snotspined milquetoasts that are only out for themselves?
In the old Navy fashion :: I like ” the cut of your jib.” When you quit quibbling please let us know what you really think. 🙂
Hey man, you need to lighten up. I’ll have you know The United Nations declared access to a broadband internet connection A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT in 2011. They have BIG BALLS. Not to mention the
sciencepropaganda they have funded onGlobal WarmingClimate Change. Don’t be so quick to place blame. Dude, just chill and stand by for thewhitewashresults of the multi-nationalclusterfuckinvestigation!Heh, I forgot to add IMPOTENT!
I’m glad the Filipinos and Irish had the sense to do what they’re trained to do. Nothing good can come of surrendering to a bunch of Islamist terrorists. I fear for the Fijians.
UN troops are typically pretty impotent. They have no mandate to actually fight (what soldiers are trained to do!); they have no leverage to actually ‘keep the peace’. And so, in a crisis they get orders to surrender.
They would simply get in our way in south Lebanon in the 80s. As I recall, the Italians were the only ones who manned up from time to time. The rest sat like dummies, and often obstructed our pursuit of terrorists. But sitting there, occupying space was all their mandate and orders covered.
I feel sorry for any troops who get sent on a UN ‘peace keeping’ mission.
Hope those guys get their hands on the guy who told them to surrender.
Proud to have some Irish blood today.
Hey now, UN troops from Nepal are thought to have started a cholera epidemic in Haiti.
So they have that going for them.

Aw, it only killed 40,000 people. No big deal!
Maybe the Filipinos heard about what happened to Col Higgins:

It’s a pity so few of you people can speak proper English.
37-year vet.
How many of us have you heard speak, wanker?
Probably a Chair Force Officer!
Sounds like some prissyass office POG!
What is with the grammar Gestapo today?
It’s a crying shame your mother didn’t swallow.
Funny.
What do you people mean, “you people?”
I knew a gent by the name of Bruce Hynes a while back. Certainly not at all a pompous ass, so I guess you’re not the same guy.
Right this is the other Bruce Hynes, you know the one I mean, the giant pussy who whined about everything the entire time he served. Now he’s a retired whiny pantywaist who still complains about everything.
Biteth me.
SGM Bruce Hynes of the WI ARNG?
Its a never surrender environment.
God bless the Pinoys. They have over a century of experience in fighting radicalized Islamist scum.
The U.N Indian commander should be fired immediately. I know this may be stereotyping but Indians in general are good business executives because they are willing to sacrificing everything and everyone just to advance themselves. In corporate America that is fine but in the U.N they should not treat it as a business, the U.N should not put ppl with career mentality instead of really believing what it stands for 🙁
That’s what also came to my mind. He is willing to sacrifice those people under him to advance himself for a seat in the UN. Some people say think that the Filipinos are not disciplined for not following the chain of command. But I think Filipino commanders have already got it all figured out. Coming from a country with a lot of corrupt leaders.
The UNNDOF commander has finally broken his silence to say that the Filipino peacekeepers’ “great escape” is “an act of cowardice”. How could that be?
Apparently, india wants a seat in the UN. So the general must have been willing to sacrifice other nation’s troops to build up an image that would take him to that seat.
