“Sniper nest” found in Chicago
Chicago’s Fox 32 reports that Chicago Police Department found a “sniper nest” about a block from Kennedy King College overlooking a soccer field. The police claim to have found a “high-powered semi-automatic rifle”. The rifle was actually a pistol – a Mac-10. The Mac 10 comes in 9 millimeter and .45 caliber pistol cartridges (there’s also one in the 9mm Kurtz or .380 caliber).
I’ve fired the .45 caliber version and, trust me, in no way can it be used as a “sniper” weapon, per se.
The so-called “sniper nest” was a block from the college and I’m pretty sure that you can’t accurately hit a target a block away with the Mac-10 irrespective of the cartridge.
It’s a “spray and pray” weapon, not very accurate out past about 30 yards. Don’t get me wrong, someone may have been injured if this “sniper” had opened up on a crowd. It’s not a “point” type weapon at any distance, though.
Since the police don’t seem familiar with this type of weapon, I’ll help them in their search for the gun man – he’s really, really stupid and doesn’t know a thing about guns – he may even be a member of the Chicago PD, if the article is accurate. By the way, I used a picture of a non-working model of a Mac-10 in this post so as not to scare any visitors.

I’m a long range shooting enthusiast and this kind of stupidity causes me physical pain.
They’re lucky that ‘sniper nest’ wasn’t occupied. It’s breeding season and damn are they dangerous during breeding season…all hopped up on Jameson and protein powder!
LOL! 🙂
I thought guns were banned in Chicago?
Why cops there have no clue about ’em…
OMG an evil 666 black assault gun. At least their were no assault shovels found.
So if that is a “high-powered semi-automatic rifle” … the “sniper’s nest” was probably just a “pigeon coop”!
Just sayin’!
I am hoping it was the reporter’s term to label it a “sniper” nest.
I am hoping the cops don’t refer to a mac-10 style weapon as a sniper rifle.
I am also hoping that the cops realize those who carry a mac-10 tend to be involved in something besides “sniping” at college students. Especially in a hideout over a garage….
VOV…I can’t believe CPD doesn’t know a Mac-10 is NOT a sniper weapon. After all how many of their SWAT members use one? In fact how many Mac-10s are even in the CPD arsenal? I’m betting…NONE. It was a Mac-10 found in an apartment. Now maybe the idiot had evil intentions to use it as such but my guess is it was just another Chicago thug type with a gang style weapon who got raided.
Hey, you can shoot the gun out of a person’s hand with one of those from 100 yards away! I know, I saw it in a movie once!
/sarc off
As always, the stupid is strong in Chicago. First, will they please stop the “high powered rifle” crap? I’m a gun guy, I do a lot of shooting (when I can afford ammo, at least), been shooting and collecting guns since I was a small child, and I have NEVER come across a “low powered rifle.”
Second, they clearly don’t know what a sniper is. The fucksticks likely think any weapon with optics is a “sniper scope gun”–clearly they never heard of Simo Häyha. And they are self-proclaimed experts because they put ACOGS on their virtual shotgun in Call of Duty, think two guns at once is anything but retarded, and don’t know the difference between a clip and a mag.
And finally, an SMG is not a rifle, especially not a compact SMG! That’s like pointing at a Harley-Davidson and calling it a minivan! Fucking idiots…
Gallery gun in .22 Short? That’s pretty low powered…
They found a Mac-10 and claimed it was a Sniper’s weapon. If they found a shotgun instead, those idiots would probably call it a “Shoulder-Fired Mortar”
Damn liberal booger-eating bedwetters!!
Yet another good reason to never visit a college campus, particularly if it is in Chicago. Wouldn’t want to be caught snipe hunting there.
Oh, for pete’s sake – it’s Chicago. What did you expect?
Intelligent cops in Chicago?
That is one bodacious oxymoron!
No, I have no confidence in the ability of either Chicago media or the CPD to distinguish between a Saturday night special revolver and an actual rifle, or any other kind of firearm.
Ex-PH2…I have a somewhat off topic question but it relates to Chicago. I watched a series on TV called “Boss” staring Kelsey Grammer as the Mayor of Chicago. Now, I knew that Chicago had long been a political hotbed of corruption, inside dealings, and out and out, kill or be killed politics. If it was a true depiction of Chicago political workings I was still amazed at the level of influence the Mayor had. Even the Governor kowtowed to the Chicago political machine. Believe me, according to this series it is a well run, hammer handed, heavily controlled machine also. My question is, since your old days of familiarity with all things Chicago, are the politics and power of the Mayor of Chicago that real? Does he really “rule the city” as depicted? I am not surprised when I see political corruption, I am not that naive. It was just an eye opener about the inner workings of the Mayor’s office and to that, I was surprised at the power wielded and cut throat practices in play every day. Probably the same in New York, New Orleans, Washington DC and many others. Just an off hand question if you have time.
Sparks…from my time at Ft Sheridan I can somewhat answer your question, YES the Mayor of Chicago rules all. Mayor Daley the younger wanted a waterfront park, only problem Meigs Field (was the default airport in early MS Flight Simulator games) was already there. But that didn’t stop Mayor Daley, in the middle of the night of Sunday, March 30, 2003, Mayor Daley ordered city crews to destroy the runway immediately by bulldozing large X’s into the runway. He gave no notice to the FAA or the folks that kept their planes there. It’s now a park. Here’s one quote I pulled from Wikipedia – “”He ruined Meigs because he wanted to, because he could,” columnist John Kass wrote of Daley in the Chicago Tribune.”
Got the Blu Rays both seasons 1 & 2 for Christmas…I like Kelsey Grammar & he’s a conservative as well (takes flak from Hollyweird & don’t care).
– Chicago has a weak mayor & strong council set up like many other big cities.
– Very unique aspect…no term limits ( Richard Daley Sr & Jr both served over 20 yrs as mayor).
– The “weak” mayor still has broad powers over the budget & high level appointments. The Daleys father & son were exceptional at building broad coalitions of political, business, and labor leaders to circumvent the limitations of the mayor office & crush opposition.
– Most mayors for various reasons don’t last long in the Chicago political pressure cooker…one term and out is largely the rule. Some exceptions are the Daleys father & son 20+ yrs apiece, Edward Kelley 3+ terms, and few others. Yeah for the last 80+ yrs its all Democrats.
tc and Devtun, thanks for the info. I remember in the show the Mayor doing something just like that to an airport or something he wanted for other uses. No notices, no talking to anyone, just had city crews show up in the night and destroy the property from its original use and intent. Pretty powerful I would say.
“High Powered rifle”?
Please, Michelle Obama’s queefs have a longer effective range that that piece of crap.
I truly hope you are surmising, and don’t actually have “first hand” knowledge of Mooch’s lethality.
That’s a BAD mental image.
Jebeebus. The TV station’s news page reads like a Grade B horror movie script. Teen killed another wounded in shooting. One killed, 6 hurt in shootings. Man and woman found deadd. Woman and dog found dead. Woman killed in fiery crash. Man commits suicide in hospital as wife gives birth. Father of babysitter molests child. Teen tortured by father and grandfather…And here I am wondering whether I should take the chance of fishing w/o a license.
police made a ‘frightening discover”??
a “sniper nest”??
A mac-10 found on the roof of a garage sounds more like a thug tossed it up there to avoid it being found if he was in danger of being searched by cops…..I’m sure the Chicago machine will use this as an excuse to find more ways to undermine the second amendment
I’m just glad it doesn’t have a bayonet lug or a shoulder thing that flips up. The news told me that makes these guns even more accurate and dangerous.
And if it had a barrel shroud! Look out!!
But what if… If it can accept a “30 clip magazine” (something I heard some dildoheaded self-proclaimed ‘expert’ reporter say as the numbnut held up a 30 round mag during a video rant), OH THE HORROR!!!
Wait a hog hair minute…A 30 clip magazine? LMAO! I’m struggling to remember how many clips I carried in my ammo pouches…along with three spare magazines BUT, I don’t recall ever banging a 30 clip magazine in the well. Anybody have a picture of a 30 clip magazine?
Let’s see, a magazine that will hold 30 clips…. I’ve seen clips that will hold 10 rounds, so if the magazine holds 30 of them we are looking at 300 rounds.
Awesome!
Another one for the “narrative”… OMG, ban those evil “assault weapons” with “high capacity clips” big gov’t!! (Thanks, Democrats!!)
Yeah but its got one of them threaded barrels so you can screw on one of them flush supporters.
Many moons ago a close friend, who happened to be a parole officer, kept two of those in his top desk drawer. He said they kept his clients from getting too frisky.
As seen on Facebook: “You couldn’t use a MAC-10 to ‘snipe’ inside a phone booth….”
Chicago police found a sniper’s nest with a phaser with a pistol style handle. Opps, it was one of their tasers that they dropped by accident.
Notice no pictures.
Gun found within some brush = sniper’s nest!
The article body now refers to the weapon as “high-powered semi-automatic weapon”. The title remains, “Sniper nest discovered near Kennedy-King College”. We have laws called “truth in advertising”. There are people who want laws to enforce truth in politics. Apparently right here we have an excellent case where we need truth in journalism. Moving right along.
In a fit of boredom, I looked at the location using Google Earth. On the west side of Lowe is the sports field mentioned in the article. On the east side of Lowe, there is a restaurant on the north side of 64th; on the south side of 64th there is a tall building with a garage behind it. I hunted around for another garage in the area, I didn’t see anything — YMMV.
So the top level of the garage behind the tall building is just a little above grade. Finding something on the roof of that garage would not be particularly challenging — just drive around looking for a parking place.
I spent half an hour on google looking for information. I see a report from Fox and another report from the Blaze and Blaze points to the Fox report. Everything else is a copy of one of those. So far I have been unable to see any photo or description of the actual weapon or the “sniper nest”. Actual information is very thin on the ground.
