Scary black guns stolen in Chicago
Ex-PH2 sends us a link to NBC News which reports that more than a dozen Smith & Wesson M&P15 rifles were stolen from an unguarded freight train car in Chicago last week;
Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent Thomas Ahern said Friday that 13 semi-automatic rifles were stolen from the rail yard near 61st Street and Lafayette Avenue in Englewood sometime between the Sunday morning and Tuesday morning.
“Hopefully they’re not used in a crime and we can recover them before something happens,” Ahern said.
Yeah, well, wish in one hand…. I mean, they stole the weapons so why would we think that they’d commit another crime with the rifles. They were stolen along with some 30-round magazines. Those are deadly enough even without the rifles, if what I read in the news is true.
This never would have happened if we had a better background check system and tightened that gun show loophole.

OH, THE HORROR!! Next, they could, like, put BULLETS in those guns, and like, use them to commit crimes!! WE NEED TO OUTLAW FIREARMS THEFT!! Wait, doesn’t Chicago ALREADY have heavy-duty Gun Control laws? That ought to take care of it, just ask any liberal!!

They need to arrest that boxcar for failure to maintain security of those weapons. Then they need to arrest the Engineer for transporting weapons through Chicago.
Frikkin’ morons.
Inside job all the way.
Sounds like someone got a tip something was coming through. I love the “Community Activists” outrage.
#bringbackourguns
There, that will make them give the guns back.
Haha! Yep! That should do it.
A community activist was killed last week at what amounts to pointblank range at a traffic stop. Someone drove up to her car and shot her twice.
I’m surprised that more of those scary black guns weren’t stolen. Only 13? That’s SO conservative. It means gun control is alive and well on da sout’ side.
Can we have a Stolen Guns Awareness Week? That should do it. We can kick it off with a candlelight vigil for the abducted guns, followed by a few words from 164 politicians, and, of course, a 5K run the following morning. Ribbons? Hmmm. Black would work but that might send the wrong message. I got it! Black and white twisted ribbons. Oh, and wrist bands.
Have the thieves registered their stolen guns in accordance with local laws yet?
“They were stolen along with some 30-round magazines. Those are deadly enough even without the rifles, if what I read in the news is true.”
Yep, those full thirty rounds mags, up side the head from a kid with an 80 MPH fast ball, are another gun problem that will need to be addressed.
This happens all the time in the Chicago area. I remember a guy coming into the bar I was bar tending at who had 2 plastic cases with a Glock and 2 magazines in each case. He was selling them for $250 each and said he had a trunkload in his car outside. Apparently him and his buddy had stolen them out of a shipping container at one of the local railyards in Northwest Indiana. This was about 20 years ago and I tossed them both out of the bar. Thing is, these guys break into railcars and most times don’t know what’s in there. It could be guns, clothes, electronics, but they’ll take it if it’s portable. While it could be an inside job, it’s most likely just dumb luck that these rifles were what they found.
Now that’s Great Gun Control and Security. The problem is us out siders see it as the “Norm” for the USA. Not my problem so stuff it if some junked out bozo gets his hands on one of these and brass’s up the local school. Thank heaven my kids aren’t there.
That crew already knew the contents of the railcar and more than likely it was equipped with door alarms and satellite comm system. Unless the railroad po-po releases photos of the railcar, I am even willing to bet they knew the placement too. If I recall correctly, they’d have 15 minutes to get in, out and gone before the satellite system set off an alert on a console somewhere.
Maybe it’s a cover story for a new BATFE sting operation.
