Man dead, police investigating self-defense claim after shooting in South Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating a claim of self-defense after a deadly shooting Saturday morning in South Nashville.The incident was reported at 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, May 10 outside of an apartment in the 200 block of Tampa Drive.
According to authorities, an investigation found that the 48-year-old man victim arrived at an apartment and repeatedly knocked on the door asking to speak with a woman he knew.
A 60-year-old man who reportedly lives at the apartment with his girlfriend answered the door and asked the victim to leave. The 60-year-old told authorities that the other man continued knocking, and during the third interaction, the 48-year-old man and the woman started fighting.
According to police, the woman’s boyfriend said he saw the other man reach for an item in his waistband, at which point the 60-year-old shot the victim once.
The man called emergency services, but the victim — who had a BB pistol in his possession — was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are working to notify his next of kin.

Hero: Army Medic Saves Teenage Girl’s Life During Shooting Incident
The Stupid was strong with this one. Was.
One good definition of “hero” is someone who rushes to another’s aid, disregarding their personal safety to succor a fellow human being.
There are other definitions, but this is the one that applies to the 82nd Airborne’s Sergeant Brian Lieberman, a medic assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, who rushed to the aid of a person not in the line of his military duties, but when a shooting occurred outside his apartment.Army Sgt. Brian Lieberman, 22, said he was “just doing my job” when he saved the life of a 14-year-old girl during a shooting at his apartment complex. But the United States Army believes Lieberman is an American hero, meriting the Soldier’s Medal.
Lieberman, an Army medic, is assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
The Soldier’s Medal is a significant award and is only presented to someone who has accepted a risk to his or her own life to carry out their duty.
In Sergeant Lieberman’s case, he saw a teenage girl hit in a drive-by shooting, rushed to help her, and protected her with his own body when the shooter returned.
On June 5, 2023, a gunman attacked the Carrington Place apartment complex in North Carolina, shooting a teenage girl in the back. Army training instincts kicked in, and Lieberman rushed into the line of fire.
Lieberman said to Fox News Digital.I looked out my window with my roommate and we heard people screaming and saw people running around by my complex pool, at which point I grabbed my weapon and ran out my front door while my roommate dialed 911.
As I got downstairs, I approached a group of people and I threw my hands up and stated that I am an army medic and they pointed to an individual that was lying in the street. I was only able to locate a single gunshot wound to her lower back.
Sergeant Lieberman, as he was trained, started to treat the wound. Then the gunman returned.
The shooter’s vehicle drove past us again, and my roommate yelled at me to get down. I threw myself over the girl while the shooters drove by [and] shot at us again, and then that was when I pulled my weapon out to return fire into the suspect’s vehicle.
Lieberman then continued seeing to the young victim’s wounds until medical personnel arrived on-scene.

What’s not to like? An AR style rifle, in God’s own 45ACP, using Glock mags.
I’ll have to look and see if this comes in other barrel lengths.
A shortie 7″-10″ would be a great PDW truck gun.
And a longer barrel might give that little bit extra “OOMPH” for reach and hit with the 45.
(but IIRC, there was an experiment, long ago, caliber forgotten, where the Mad Scientists were trying to determine the optimum barrel length for a given caliber. Too long of a barrel for a 45ACP might not be the best thing. Reduced velocity, maybe even stuck in the barrel?)
There have been studies done…generally the optimum length for a .22LR is only about 15″, I read. I do know that running a .44 Magnum though a 12″ longer barrel gives it some serious extra punch, and turns a .44 Special into a .44 Mag.

This is one story I’d like to see a followup on (when info becomes available) on the status of the girl (hope she’s ok) and the shooter (hope at least one shot hit him, and he’s arrested)
