Leonard McQuown; reggaeton video star

| April 28, 2014

Leonard Dale McQuown

We’ve talked on few occasions about Leonard McQuown, the fellow who has been accused by the state of Virginia, among others, of being a scammer. He was indeed a Marine for six years, but he spent 200 days of that time as a deserter. That was back in the 80’s. You can see his FOIA at the link above.

He was caught scamming the residents of Louisiana back in March when he faked a donation to local homeless shelter by PayPal when he was questioned by the local news station, but then after the interview he got the money refunded. There is little evidence that the money that “Mac” has had donated to him on his “Project Foot” and “Operation Walk America” projects.

Basically, McQuown has found a way to be homeless vet without all of the begging. He walks slowly from town-to-town and people give him stuff, stuff like money and food.

About a year ago, McQuown caught the attention of reggaeton performer, SABO, another veteran who wrote a song, The Walk, which he initially dedicated to Mac and his endeavor. Until folks started pointing out to him that Mac was a phony. The irony is that the song is about stolen valor thieves, and there’s Mac in the video, but that wasn’t SABO’s intention.

When SABO found out about Mac, he put a weak little disclaimer on his YouTube video;

This video was made prior to any knowledge of any malpractice and/or wrong doing that the dedicated party may or may not be involved in.

The video still portrays McQuown as a modern day hero for veterans, when the opposite is actually true. He’s a thief who prays on the honorable reputation of veterans under the guise of being a saint, but as I said, he’s just a homeless guy a few steps ahead of the law. His defense is that he doesn’t actually ask anyone for money, folks just give it to him.

Now, I happen to like reggaeton, generally speaking, but I don’t like folks who don’t own up to their mistakes. SABO and McQuown have made a mistake in this instance and they seem to be profiting despite their errors in judgement and they don’t really own up to those mistakes. So maybe I’ll give up reggaeton and switch to cumbia instead.

Editor’s Note (3:42 AM May 2, 2014): I just got word from Scotty that he’s working with Sabo to edit MacClown out of the video. They tell me that Sabo’s late mother is in the video and that’s why he doesn’t want to take it down completely. I can understand that. But since all we wanted was MacSlease out of the video anyway, I think this works for everybody. Now we just need to keep an eye on it to make sure it happens, and we have Scotty running that part of the op, so there should be no problems.
