“Gun free” restaurant turns deadly
From Fox News, the story of Nicole Goeser a concealed weapon permit holder who had to leave her handgun in her car as she went into a “gun free” restaurant with her husband;
I noticed my stalker (a former karaoke customer) in the crowd that night and I knew something was not right. This was a man that I had blocked from my social network account due to inappropriate messages he had sent me.
He had never threatened me or my husband but he was definitely creepy.
My husband Ben had asked him to leave me alone before he showed up at this venue where I had never seen him before.
I realized at that point I was being stalked.
I asked the management at the restaurant to remove him. When they approached him and asked him to leave, he pulled out a .45 semi-auto and shot Ben. He then stood over him and continued to fire five more rounds into my husband.
I guess the only people who obey those gun free zones are the potential victims. Funny how that works, ain’t it? Or, is it tragic?

I really wish she would have ignored the sign. The only place that I don’t carry is Government building. I refuse to have my family or myself become victims.
I could not agree more. I am not going to put my family’s life or my own in danger because of misguided folks who don’t understand that you have to take care of yourself and the people you love.
I admit it. I ignore those signs regularly. I have a CCW. I carry. Don’t like it? Fuck you.
I also ignore these signs and toatlly agree with you Nicki.
Damn. That’s why I boycott places with those signs, only law-abiding folks obey them, and the criminals know just where they’ll have a cornucopia of unarmed victims the moment they see it.
Next time ignore the sign! The property owner and or leasee’s right to refuse (an administrative issue) does not and will never trump one’s right to life and situational liberty.
If the offender ignored … legal CCW holders should ignore too!
That is my view.
PS: A few exceptions: Fed and State buildings, courts, gun free zones such as schools, etc … get caught there and you are going to jail!
Just sayin’!
Why should state and fed buildings be an exception? I’m just asking, because I see that statement a lot and am curious why they are so special as to warrant jail time for carrying there?
That being asked, I can carry in my state buildings, because as a permit holder, I only had to put into writing my intentions to be armed on state property and give it to the state director of public safety and that was that. In fact, during the anti-gun legislation committee hearings, most people in the gallery were armed.
Reminds me somewhat of what Suzanna Hupp went through.
Nicole is a super nice and well-spoken lady. Following her husband’s death, she went on to lobby the Tennessee State Congress and actually had a major effect on carry laws in the state. She then started working as a legislative assistant while giving talks to news media and at various organizations around the country, which also had effects on the changes in concealed carry in various other states. She continues even now pointing out that only law-abiding citizens are effected by those asinine No Gun signs.
No linky.
I’d click the “Fox News” text, if I were you.
Jonn, that’s the “tweak required” I alluded to in the “bug” thread. The links previously were a noticeably different color than the text of the article. They’re now almost exactly the same color as the article’s text, and are damned hard to find.
Yeah, well, I’m working on it.
It’s just like Starbucks asking folks to leave guns out of the store. Screw ’em. I only go there to get that fancy coffee for my wife. If the shooting starts…I will not be a victim for lack of returning fire.
On another special little snowflake Starbucks issue, they have made it clear lately that if you have a problem with or don’t like gays…they don’t want your business. Suits me.
I don’t go to Starbucks, so I don’t care. I go to McD’s and Dunkin’ Donuts for my needs.
And KFC.
Dutch Brothers has better coffee.
Dunkin’ had me at “Maple Creme Drizzle.”
I never cared for snob coffee anyway. Or half the people commonly found in Starbucks around here, for that matter. Fuck them and their vente mocha metrosexual macchiato.
The real question is, do you really want to sit in the same space with some metrosexual dork who sits around on weekend mornings in his buffalo plaid PJs, holding a big latte cup and smirking?
‘Cause I don’t.
Dunkin’ and McD’s make great iced tea in the summer. And there are donuts at DD’s, apple pies at McD’s, and frequently, a bunch of real people having a party or something at either place. I like hanging out with real people.
The murder occurred on 2 April 2009 in a Sports Bar in Nashville, TN. It was state law, not private action, which barred firearms from commercial establishments that served alcohol, including the one where this crime happened. The law has since changed–in large part, because of this tragedy. Today, one can carry into a bar BUT may not consume alcohol in the place.
I agree with the change in the law. Guns and alcohol do not mix.
This is especially true if you are hunting with Dick Cheney.
It’s always been MUCH SAFER to go hunting with Dick Cheney than it ever was to ride with Ted *HICCUP!* Kennedy driving!
Maybe if people sued the owners of the “gun free” stores when something like this happened, things would change. If a store doesn’t want guns in it, then they should be held responsible for their customers safety.
Wait, the sign didn’t stop the criminal?!?!?! I’m as shocked as Steven Lowe at a church picnic. This is a sad story.
Stalkers, by their nature, are mentally unbalanced. More than once, they’ve used weapons on their victims. You do not, DO NOT, approach a known stalker unless you are very good at self-defense, both unarmed and against weapons. Expect to be attacked — because there is a very good chance you will be.
Stalkers can and or should be an entirely different discussion IE detection, documenting, reporting and defensive and counter-measures.
How is what I said not part of this discussion? I will refer you back to a common theme here, and that’s “situational awareness.” This story is only one example. STALKER + “GUN FREE ZONE” + STALKER’S TARGET = SERIOUS PROBLEM IN THE MAKING. Is it just me, that there are red flags all over this? It’s not even important that this was a gun-free zone; it was a public place. The stalker couldn’t give less of a damn who he hurt; the man defending his wife was normal and, even if he’d been armed, probably would not have drawn a weapon in time to prevent the attack he suffered. Predators pick the time and place of their attack, right? I’ll harp one more time on the fact that guns aren’t guardian angels, that there are more factors to be considered than whether you’re packing heat or not, and having a gun on you doesn’t excuse you from being willfully blind to your circumstances and surroundings.
Yup, “gun free zones” are the stupidest idea on the face of the planet, heck, in the solar system. But, how will anyone ever find out if a law abiding citizen is carrying? Unless, of course, that same citizen saves a bunch of folks by stopping some criminal douchebag from killing them.
So, “gun free zone” owners: kiss my Irish ass!
Off the main subject a bit, but I only buy my coffee from a plantation in Costa Rica. In fact, when I was there visiting, they told us that they sell their second quality, or inferior, beans to Starbucks. So if you go there, you aren’t getting the best coffee that is available. But even if they used good quality beans, I still wouldn’t visit them simply for their gun stance.
Criminals love these places because there is nobody to fight back. I carry into places that say a gun free zone. I just do not advertise that I am carrying.
