Criminal serving for life completes sentence (UPDATED)

| February 19, 2014

Jilly and Andy send us links to an Associated Press story about convicted rapist/murderer Steven Dale Green, a former soldier who was convicted in 2009 of murdering an Iraqi family and the rape and murder of 14-year-old Abeer Qassim al-Janabi in 2006. Three others were prosecuted as accomplices, but tried in the military court system. They are eligible for parole next year. Green, however completed his life sentence yesterday when prison officials found him “unresponsive” in his cell. His death is being investigated as a suicide;

In multiple interviews from prison with The Associated Press, Green frequently expressed regret at taking part in the attack and frustration that he was tried and convicted in the civilian system, which does not afford inmates parole, while the others involved went through the military justice system and have a chance to be released from prison.

“I was made to pay for all the war crimes. I’m the only one here in federal prison,” Green said in an October 2013 interview. “I think they plan to throw away the key in my situation.”

I’d like to thank Mr. Green for saving the tax payers untold thousands of dollars to keep him alive. He should have been sentenced to death for his particularly gruesome crime, at least he had the decency to commit justice for the rest of us, if it turns out that he did indeed commit suicide. If it turns out that he had some help, I also send my heartfelt thanks to his assistant.

UPDATE: According to Stars & Stripes, the Medical Examiner has declared that Green died from hanging. I suppose the rope around his neck was their big clue.

Twist

If you ever get the chance read the book about this. It is called “Dark Hearts”. I was stationed where I’m at for a year before I read it and was surprised to find out that this turd’s BN CSM was now my BDE CSM.

Twist…I googled it and I believe you meant “BLACK HEARTS
One Platoon’s Descent Into Madness in Iraq’s Triangle of Death..”

Some time after this story broke, I read a follow-up in the Washington Post by a reporter who had met and talked with Green at some length, and quoted him quite a bit. I concluded that the reporter did not recognize the difference between a soldier and a sociopath.

The flames of hell have been fed a bit more.

“I think they plan to throw away the key in my situation.”

You were convicted of multiple murder plus rape, jackass. Sounds to me like that’s about right – if not less than you deserved.

Don’t you just love a good news story!! Rot in hell you sick fuck.

Just An Old Dog

Piece of shit until the end, calling what he did a “war crime” It was murder and rape, This asshole would have done the same ting to a family in the US if he had a chance.
Hope Satan is sodomozing his ass with a red hot poker.

There are many ways out of this life…he took his way. His choice.

The Other Whitey

The multiple-murderer and rapist was sad because they wouldn’t let him out of prison. What a tragedy. No, really, this is my serious face. I don’t know about you, but I’d bet money he wouldn’t have gotten locked up had he not forced himself on a young woman and/or deliberately killed innocent people.

Well, shit. Now that I think about it, the shitbag had a point. He shouldn’t have gotten life, he SHOULD have been sentenced to death, as should all rapists. Good fucking riddance to this piece of rat shit, and I’m sure he’s being sodomized in hell as we speak.

@9 – most any war crime is definable as a civilian charge, like murder, rape, etc. Having committed these against civilians in a war zone, it probably shold be considered war crimes…. with the appropriate sentence deferred until last night.

Satan’s got some fresh pineapples waiting for you, Green.

Black Hearts…horrific yet essential reading to see leadership failures on so many levels it boggles the mind. I hate to MMQB because I wasn’t in Yusufiyah, but know enough who were in the unit who corroborated a lot of the book’s conclusions. That platoon was allowed to run amok because of a variety of factors and lack of supervision

As for Green- sociopath…burn in hell.

@15; As I stated above I know the CSM in the book. He was correctly portrayed in the book.

Me too, Jonn.

I remember when this happened. If it would have been my decision, upon a guilty verdict, he’d a been transported back to the scene of the crime, and with as many relatives of that family as could be found watching, he would have been systematically stripped of every award , badge, rank, and name tag, bound to a post, spit on and shot in the face at point blank range.
