Jason Truitt the phony SEAL/POW

About two years ago, we helped to bust this clown, Jason Truitt. who claimed to be an OEF veteran SEAL and claimed to have been captured by the Taliban twice, but managed to escape. Of course, it was all false, but he parlayed that story into a free hunting trip and a free Weatherby rifle by preying on good folks who truly wanted to help veterans come home.
Well, I’m mentioning it today because Mary finally got his records from the National Personnel Records Center;

Yeah, he had seven months in the Navy, and 4 months at sea. Almost like multiple tours in Afghanistan, huh? There were two more blog posts about him, one when the Cortez Journal pulled their article, and another when a local TV station interviewed Truitt.
His excuse for the fakery was that he had bumped his noggin when he was in the Navy and that made him lie about his service. Of course, he had a pretty lengthy criminal record, so he had experience as a prisoner, but not of the Taliban – the California Corrections System. He still couldn’t beat the Jake Diliberto juggernaut in the tournament that year, though.
Category: Phony soldiers
I wonder if the people who gave him the rifle and hunt will apologize to everyone they ignored or insulted when they were defending their decision to give an obvious phony free shit.
Truitt will NEVER be sorry over anything than getting caught, he’s in the same class as Church, Banks, Wickre, Phildo,…
Piece. Of. SHIT!!!
Proud, left out bernutsless. Geez, I’m tired of finding these cockroaches everywhere.
@1 In the two years since that photo was taken and we busted him, I have exchanged e-mails with both individuals in that photo with Truitt. They were VERY APOLOGETIC. They didn’t have a military background and were duped by a con-man. The weapon was returned. They meant well and everything appropriate to make up for not fact checking better. Remember this tool spent an entire hunting trip with a group of actual vets, and fooled them too.
Here’s the real ballbuster, kids–TR wasn’t even deployed when he was on it. He has “4 months at sea” because he was attached to a sea-going command, but TR came back from their 1999 deployment in late September, and hit the yards in January of 2000.
So no, this kid likely spent a few WEEKS (if that) at sea. Most likely he was a druggie and/or a thief (and if I could see those discharge codes, I could tell ya.)
And to the veteran’s organization, yeah, we accept your apology, dumbasses. Next time try vetting these clowns a little better, eh?
@3, Ex-PH2, yes, Ma’am, I thought I did, in a way, that’s why I finished that post with the “…”!
Yeah, I hit my head so many times my wife tells me I speak in “tongues!” Whatever that means….:)
Only good thing out of this story is he gave that rifle back – I have a similar one in a .257 WM. Sweet!
Just curious, did the Feds ever do anything about this asswipe? I did a quick search and didn’t find anything current.
Man…if I had a buck for every time I whacked my melon on something in service, I be a richer man today. But, knocking LIES into ones self…I don’t think so. (Nice rifle though!)
@7 LIRight…your wife too eh!
@7 LIRight what is the reasonable kill range on your .257 WM? Sorry for off topic posts folks.
Geez, I have more time eating in the forward galley than that stupid fucker had in service.
Why can’t we have open season on them with no bag limit?
@11, because these guys are all fat and gristle, and when you bag one of them the noises they make (IT’S A MISTAKE! I WAS WEARING IT TO HONOR THEM! I WAS HACKED! I HAVE A TBI! I COULDN’T HELP MYSELF!) will give you nightmares.
Well, if he bumped his head and it made him a liar….I wonder if smacking the sh1t out of his head with a 2×4 would bring it back? Even if it didn’t bring back his memory it might dissuade him from further adventures in storytelling…
More like he was such a shitbag he fell up a few ladders on his way to Captain’s Mast before they shitcanned him.
You’ve REALLY got to fuck up to get the boot after just 7 months in. Drugs are one way. Thieving from your shipmates is another.
Either way, I can see this douchetool doing something that jacked up.
Hmmmm . . . . discharged at 7 mo TIS w/no indication of severance pay due to disability at pay grade E1. That suggests a few things. One possibility is an admin discharge due to severe or repeated misconduct.
There are, of course, other possible explanations.
Hondo–even in the late 90’s, they tended to be pretty forgiving of shitbags. Nah, it took some weapons-grade fucktardery for this guy to get tossed just over 4 months after he hit his ship.
I’ve known guys on carriers that stayed so under the radar their LCPO’s barely knew their names, let alone what they looked like. To get that much attention that quickly takes some serious doing.
@10 Sparks
“…. reasonable kill range on your .257 WM” – great question, but since I hunt upstate NY and the area that I hunt (Schoharie County) has a few long fields to shoot….kill range? Whitetail in NY tends to be a bit smaller up there but certainly a 120gr. round going out at around 3200fps would work well depending on the skill of the shooter. 100 yards for one, may be 350 yards for another – personal skill, quality of the rifle, scope, ammo, etc. I’ve never killed anything out past around 275 yds. and that was with my .270 Rem. With the .257 WM my longest was just over 100 yds. “Kill range” is certainly subjective.
I’ve read stories of hunters killing deer out to 600 yards with the .257 WM, which either takes great skill or just the ability to BS. I don’t consider myself a good enough shooter to take (or even see!) a deer out to 600!
Great rifle, accurate, but expensive to shoot like any Weatherby ammunition.
I remember the scuzzball.
A true. hybrid cross between Dildoberto and Matthew beck.
@17 LIRight, Thank you for the info and ROCK ON with the .257! Where I live the Big kill up here is to bag a good sized elk. But I haven’t hunted much since I got out of service. Just target and range shooting. I love fishing though.
Looks like the “Scumbag Steve” meme

I think I remember one of the real vets that were on the hunt with him telling how Truitt emptied a .45 into an animal he had wounded. Good sniper there.
At least he didnt get his wife’s leg cut off. Of course the people that gave him the rifle were pissed off too, unlike the hayseeds in Texas who dug in and defended “Shame”Ladner een after the truth peter-whipped them in the face.
@21.
By the looks of this clown, I am surprised he did not sexually assault the animal as it lay on the ground.
#19 Sparks – last of the off topic.
.257 WM, IMHO is way to light for Elk, but if Carlos Hathcock (sp?) were still alive I think he’d point you to the .300 Win Mag or one of the new Lapua’s.
Sill glad the subject of this article gave that rifle back – he doesn’t deserve any accolades, especially a beautiful rifle.
Wonder of the people who gave this clown the rifle have talked to the feds about it. Maybe they’re just happy to have it back and be rid of this fucktard.
He also looks high as a kite in the photo above.
I was a level 3 combatives instructor, had one tour to Iraq as an infantryman, and remember sergeant’s time Thursdays with organized athletics (read…football) in the afternoons. I’ve had a f***ton of concussions. I must be one of them Delta Ranger Forces guys.
For some reason, Truitt plucked the right nerve when I first read about him. Most of the clowns put up on here I forget within an hour or two but he stuck. I doubt I’d lose any sleep if he was throat-punched
@27.
It may be TBI but I think Truitt also said he was shot multiple times on multiple occasions. not to mention the torture from his two POW “tours”.
LIRight: returning the rifle was probably more self-preservation than anything else. If he did time for a felony crime (and I believe he did), possessing a firearm of any type is legally very much an issue.
Once again, we find another individual checking all the blocks for employment at All Points Logistics….
#29 Hondo
The photo above, showing him handling, thus possessing the rifle, is enough for law enforcement to lock his ass up backed up by a few supporting depositions. Plus it appears the he participated in the “Hunt for Heros.”
If memory serves me (wishful thinking)here in NYS it’s an “E” felony for a convicted felon to possess a firearm, in CA it’s probably close to an execution offense. 🙂
Ultimately Hondo, we’re on the same page.
@28 Green Thumb…yeah how many servicemen and women from the last 13 years have mild to severe TBI and don’t completely fabricate stories? That’d be an extremely weak argument from him.
