SFC Cory Remsburg earns longest applause of SOTU address
No, I didn’t watch the president’s speech last night. I’ve heard it all before and throwing things at the TV screen isn’t going to fix anything. But Fox News reports that Sergeant First Class Cory Remsburg earned the longest applause last night;
Obama described how he first met Remsburg in 2009, at ceremonies commemorating the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France. The president described Remsburg as a “strong, impressive young man [who] had an easy manner [and] was sharp as a tack.”
A few months later, Remsburg was nearly killed by a roadside bomb near Kandahar, Afghanistan. his fellow soldiers found face-down in a canal, underwater, with shrapnel in his brain.
“The next time I met him, in the hospital, he couldn’t speak; he could barely move,” Obama said to the now-silent crowd in the House chamber. “Over the years, he’s endured dozens of surgeries and procedures, and hours of grueling rehab every day.”
Obama said that Remsburg remains blind in one eye and struggles to move his left side. But he’s slowly learned to speak, stand and walk again. He’s been awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
“Like the Army he loves, like the America he serves, Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg never gives up and he does not quit,” Obama said.
He earned the applause, but the sergeant didn’t earn those benefits that have made the rest of us independently wealthy. It’s pretty disingenuous of Congress to give SFC Remsburg a standing ovation, while they hike the cost of his healthcare and cut his cost of living allowance. Remsburg didn’t give up and doesn’t quit, but the President and the Congress have no problem with failing him and the rest of the disabled vets who have given the last full measure.
Category: Barack Obama/Joe Biden, Congress sucks
No, I didn’t suffer it either. It’s a show with applause counters and false smiles and empty words. in short, it’s an unfunny sitcom with canned laughter. Yeah, I saved my TV, too, and kept my BP down. The idiots don’t know how utterly ridiculous they appear to so many of us. Utterly. Ridiculous.
I watched of all things Gilligans Island, and then True Detective with my girlfriend. I could not stomach watching the Charade of the Union.
God Bless SFC Remsburg!! May he continue to live a good life. It is my only regret that I missed his appearance. Despite what I perceive as a POTUS who could care less about the men and woman who serve this Nation using him as a prop.
Newish TV so didn’t watch it also.
FB comments are trending, “so how about giving him back the benefits he earned!”.
White House definitely does not war game COA’s.
I watched the first 20 minutes before the entire family agreed that it was just more theater, circular logic and long stories. There was absolutely no meat or content to the entire SOTU address. Using the Ranger as a prop was just more theater, sadly.
Yeah, I had better things to do last night than listen to the inane droning and specious claims. Like getting some sleep.
I also wanted my blood pressure to stay below 180/120.
They pre-empted “La Teninte” on Spanish language Azteca TV last night for the SOTU, so I had to watch Lifetime because I surrendered control of the remote.
Yep, I find it pretty fucking pathetic that those jackwagons in congress would stand for him, but stab him in the back the second he looks away.
Jonn,
What about THIS guy and the others at Ft. Hood, who still have not received what they fucking deserve, too…I truly despise the poser known as the C-I-C.

In another thread, Sparky referred to the SOTU as STFU. I like it. A lot.
@6 Jonn,
You should have just picked up your copy of Cosmo, eaten a doughnut and drank your Blue Moon like The Hair did in Jailjerkoff Jay’s video.
I hae no working TV, which meant watch it online or do something much more useful. I spent exactly 20 seconds on it with the sound turned down so that I could do the ‘blah-blah-blah’ thing, watch biden trying to stay awake and boner trying to avoid weeping.
And then I called Valkyrie to discuss something I sent her for feedback. Much more useful way to spend an hour and a half. As she and I agreed, get rid of cliches.
Much more constructive use of time than watching biden, bodaprez, and boner.
@6 Jonn, I feel your pain. I did the same thing and ended up watching the Hallmark Channel. I didn’t watch it because I knew it would be blah blah blah Republicans fault blah blah blah Republicans fault.
Id rather have a pair of dysentery-ridden hobos shit in my ears than listen to that pompous asshole stand and lie through his teeth.
A re-run of “Agents of SHIELD” was’way moe believable.
PH2 – best literary advice ever, “Avoid cliches like the plague”
@13 Dog, you do have a way with words! 🙂
The STFU (thanks, AirCav) has become a rah-rah speech for the President and his political allies for years. It’s barely believable, and only serves as a springboard for programs and policies which are neither workable nor should they be under the control of the federal government.
That being said, last night’s “speech” went to new heights/depths of this presidency. Basically, he told the American people, “Fuck all ya’ll, I’m the SCOAMF, and I know better than you, so I’ll just pencil-whip this shit I want.”
So much for the “Constitutional scholar” who was never published, never held a “real” teaching position, and frankly, wasted three years at Haaaahhhh-vahd Law if this is how he treats the rule of law.
God Bless SFC Remsburg!
I did not like the expolitation, however I stood in the living room for the entire ovation!
Oh … that rhymes.
I am a poet and did not even know it.
Oh … that rhymes too.
WE ARE NOT PROPS!!!
It’s because he is being used merely as a propaganda piece. “Look here, look at how much we care about veterans!”
Is the guy still under the UCMJ?
Should have booed the President right then and there.
“Lower unemployment”
Flat.Out.Lie.
That is all — good night.
