Stolen Valor downunder
Storyteller sends us a link to the Brisbane Times which reports that criminals down in Australia are trying to scam the justice system there by claiming to be former members of the military.
The 51-year-old man from Runcorn in Brisbane’s south was arrested and charged over the September 27 restaurant brawl at Broadbeach, which involved up to 60 Bandidos.
He faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 19 and pleaded guilty to riot charges.
He allegedly told the court he had served for six years in the Australian Defence Force in Somalia and Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, and as a member of the SAS, in his appeal for a lenient sentence.
The man was charged on Thursday with attempting to pervert the course of justice and falsely representing to be a returned soldier, after detectives with anti-bikie Taskforce Maxima investigated the claims he made in court.
Strongman competitor Ian Ronald Crowden claimed to be a former military sniper when he faced Southport Magistrates Court last year charged with animal cruelty and obstructing a Customs officer.
He pleaded guilty to kicking a drugs sniffer dog at the airport and was fined $1000.
However, the 39-year-old was arrested and charged on Wednesday for falsely representing to be a returned soldier and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Speaking of Stolen Valor, Doug Sterner’s book, “Restoring Valor” is due out soon (Amazon says mine will arrive on Monday). Amazon is out of stock already, but Doug says the book is still at Barnes & Nobles. The Kindle version at Amazon will ship on February 4th.

Ausie news is hilarious as shit. “bikie” to describe biker gangs and lol @ the second bikie being charged for kicking sand in the lifeguards face.
Yeah, and you gotta love their legal language, too: “attempting to pervert the course of justice”. (smile)
While you are laughing at the “anti-bikie” term, take a look at the laws themselves: for instance, a woman was arrested for associating with guys wearing biker colors. In another case, two guys just got released from solitary confinemnet because they met in public. Those laws may sound funny, but they should be scary as hell, especially under a US administration that just loves using Australia as an example.
