Col. Darron Wright killed in parachute accident
My old buddy, 509th Trooper from the old paratrooper.com forums, sends us a link to the Fayetteville Observer which reports that COL Darron Wright was killed ina parachute accident at Fort Bragg the other day;
Fort Bragg officials have not officially identified the 18th Airborne Corps soldier killed. His identity is expected to be formally released today.
“He was an inspirational officer with contagious enthusiasm, motivation and energy,” Col. John Norris, commander at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Hohenfels, Germany, wrote on Facebook. “Great soldier, leader, mentor, husband, father and very dear friend.”
Before taking command in Germany last year, Norris was commander of Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.

Although Fort Bragg officials have not said whether the parachute was a factor in the soldier’s death, the 18th Airborne Corps is transitioning to a new parachute.
Soldiers have to jump during the day without equipment, jump during the day with equipment and jump at night with equipment to be qualified to jump with the T-11, a square parachute.
By all accounts that I’ve read over the past few days, COL Wright was one of the good ones.

RIP Colonel.
He was not jumping a T-11 as is implid in the article. he was jumping an MC-6 parachute.
@1: Nobody should be jumping the T-11, unless they got all the problems sorted.
RIP, COL Wright. May God comfort your surviving family and friends.
The profession of arms is a dangerous one, even when no one’s shooting.
Well, this sucks as there are too few good guys as it is. Losing one in training hurts hard, but underscores the reality of life in the military where danger is a daily part of the existence. Something those without a DD214 never truly understand.
Sir, you will be missed. I hope you find your way quickly to the pearly gates and gain admittance immediately. Indeed I hope your family can find comfort in the knowledge of a life well led by a man of honor.
Why oh WHY couldn’t it have been Dullass Shitgenfield???
I served with COl. Wright in the mid 90’s he was an outstanding commander and a great Soldier.
AATW, Sir
He was my Company Commander back in C/3/325 AIR back when I was a young grunt.
His death is all anyone is talking about this morning here at JBLM. He will be missed by a lot of people.
My condolences to tour family, friends and Soldiers.
Rest well, Sir.
DDB,
Charlie Rock! CPT Wright was one of the very good ones. That whole C Co CoC was stellar, not to mention Waggoner’s leadership.
What VOV said. Doesn’t seem to be enough good officers as it is, with the draw down. To lose one of the good ones … no bueno. That it comes from a training accident, is just salt in the wound.
Condolences to his loved ones, and his Brothers-in-arms who’ll miss him. See you in a while, sir.
Wonder what happened? MC6 behaves very well. A bastard to pack, more lines- but It makes me abit nerves. But the article says T11. Ill dig around some more
