Doctors Without Borders making a run for the border.

| August 15, 2013

Well any border that takes them out of Somalia. It seems that the violence there has reached a point that they cannot operate due to the violence directed at them. It seems that according to the group that it is not just a few random attacks that are a issue but the environment that promotes theses attacks.

It (Doctors Without Borders) said civilian leaders tolerate or “condone the killing, assaulting and abducting ” of aid workers.

“The same actors with whom MSF must negotiate minimum guarantees to respect its medical humanitarian mission have in some cases played a role in the abuses against MSF staff, either through direct involvement or tacit approval, particularly but not exclusively in south-central Somalia,” it said.

So this will course have a very negative effects for war torn places like Somalia and any area that is next to it. It is a sober reminder that noble ideals often falter in the face of harsh realities.

But were is the stupid you ask? That is coming up next. While I do think that the risks that they do take is crazy I can at least sympathies with wanting to go out and try to bring relief to troubled areas. I mean I can relate to throwing caution and reason into the wind if it means helping someone.

I thought that about a similar group called. “Our Journey to Smiles“. In the past few years they have gone down the path from naive idealism to shameless political talking points. Even when the reality of what type of violence awaits them after we leave they are still continue on with the absurdity.

Which comes down to this video from them dreaming about “A world without borders” . Some noticeable points in the video.

I feel that I need to do everything I can to stop climate change & to stop the environmental damage in general. We need to transform society so that it’s actually sustainable.

With everything that is going on right now in Afghanistan, your worried about climate change? Tell me those are really “your” words there.

All human beings live under the same blue sky.
The sky has no borders! It has no borders..

Yea, that is adorable.

But here is the big one.

My mother is sick & I need to take her to Pakistan.I’m worried about encountering problems at the border.How I wish for a world without borders!

So all of this to do over worrying about not being able to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan? But because it has ‘meaning” somehow it is getting people to post comments like this one.

THIS IS BREATHTAKING!!!! SO POWERFUL!!! It MUST go Viral!! TASHAKOR & MOHABAT, from? the bottom of my Heart!

Yea, good luck with that.

Doctors without borders are some very good hearted people,,, I saw some of the stuff they had to do and the calls they had to make. Small things we could go to the corner store to fix here end up killing people there.
And its mostly because of the Animals that run the countries they work in. They cant cry and stomp their feet about the inaction of Europe and the US when there is no way at all that proper aid could be delivered or assistance provided without it being pilfered or sold by the warlords. The other action means us putting boots on the ground, which they would decry as tampering and we don’t want to do.

NHSparky

They want a world without borders but they’re not willing to do the hard work that it would take to create and sustain that sort of reality.

Naiveity can be deadly.

You know what birth pains are, yes? That’s what is going on now. Things are changing in ways that makes us all uncomfortable.

We can’t possibly foresee what will be happening in the next few years. The idealism that these people have is fine, but the reality that they keep running into outweighs their idealism. I see what’s going on in Egypt, mostly in Cairo, right now, and I wonder who, if anyone, will survive it, and what will come afterwards.

USMCE8Ret

I’m with NHSparky. Maybe if some of those folks who want a world without borders click their heels 3 times, maybe it will happen.

Beyond that, I saw Dr’s Without Borders do some phenomenal things in Iraq. Other NGO’s were too liberal for my liking.

By 2023, places like Somalia will be fighting over fresh water – then the shits really going to start flying.

You’ve got to be a real shithole to run the Doctors Without Borders off.

Wait…let me correct that. You’ve got to be a real fucking dumb shithole to run the Doctors Without Borders off.

I don’t know thing one about their leadership, but the line staff, they want, desperately want to help the people who need it the most.

And those dumbasses ran them off.

RobertM

I remember way back when- early 90s, cough cough- when agencies like DWB, UNHCR, IRC, AI, etc pretty much financed, early on, the insurgent groups, rebels, militias and gangs in Somalia by paying fees to them to operate their humanitarian missions. It was called “TECHNICAL” assistance on their expenditure reports.

@8

You know a place is jacked up when you have to pay a place to let someone help them out.

The kicker is that the libtards scream that the US doesnt do anything ( prime examples is Sudan) when they would be the first groups of assholes to scream we were warmongers if we went in and bashed some heads to get aid through,,, ewhich is what it will take.

NavCWORet

The reasons they run the groups off is because they make the people healthy. Healthy people may decide they want to fight back against the warlords who rule them. They can’t have a healthy opposition. Keeping them sickly and impoverished means they are too weak to oppose them.

@10

That’s a fair assessment. Very likely true.

It just goes to show what shit people they are. Then again, that’s not the only bit of evidence on that score.

Idealism is fine. It has its place. But that discolored soil on the road to nirvana hides some nasty reality. ‘Doctors w/o Borders’and a world w/o borders are two distinctly different objectives. I support the first but not the second. I like a world with borders just as I like private property and the right not to consult with you regarding the disposition and use of what is mine. On the other hand, the notion of ‘Doctors w/o Borders’ is in keeping with the civilized approach of the International Red Cross and medicine generally: noncombatants who treat sick and wounded w/o discrimination on any basis–other than triage, that is. When members or supporters of ‘Doctors w/o Borders’ start chirping about global warming or some such thing, their real objectives and goals become suspect and politics ‘uglifies’ their noble goal.

Oops! It’s 0730, I have to go feed skittles to my unicorn pony…(sorry, but I feel fairly cynical this morning…)…

MAJMike

Sad to say, but some places are beyond help and should probably be fenced off and allowed to implode. No matter how much money and effort is poured in, they will never be places fit for humans.

Old Tanker

“….the sky has no borders!…”

Let’s launch you into orbit and check that theory, eh?

Veritas Omnia Vincit

@12 Bang on my friend….

Everyone here gets it, these doctors and their staff personnel are great people fighting impossible conditions to deliver basic medical care to sh1tholes everywhere…..some of these sh1tholes are so far gone they can’t afford a single healthy opposing view point….

USMCE8Ret’s comment is correct and disturbing, so many of these sh1tholes are being run by instant gratification j3rkoffs who use extreme violence to maintain a tenuous grip on power that the infrastructure throughout their nation is failing at every turn…..that one nation is rapidly becoming a despotic, post-apocalyptic vision for all of Africa. Nations are disintegrating there, and there are very few easy answers to address that reality. Africa is devolving into a continental Lord of the Flies on a grand scale, and the pace seems to be quickening.

PintoNag

@15 Spot on.

David

@14 – MAJ Mike, dead on. One of the unforgivable things Jimmy C did was killing the neutron bomb program… a whole lotta places need instant depopulation solutions.

I read an article last week about how the firefighters that were killed doing their duty were victims of environmentalists. I would tend to agree with their assessment. Their explanation states that it’s the environmentalists that refuse acts that would clear out the undergrowth. It’s the old, dead, dry undergrowth that makes these fires much more dangerous than a “normal” fire would be. It enables rapid and easy expansion. If nature were allowed to take it’s course, the fires wouldn’t be as bad and as difficult to control.

So the supposed defenders of nature, by imposing unnatural conditions have gotten unnatural and horrific results. Is anyone surprised?

The same thing is true of places like Iraq, Syria, Egypt, et al. If we were to let the natural course of things run in Egypt, the country would be much more stable. If we inhibit that, such as helping one side or another or stepping in on someone else’s behalf, we run the very real risk of unnaturally influencing conditions there.

The people must want democracy. They must want it bad enough to fight for it. They must want it bad enough to die for it. Until and unless they do, if we step in to influence them towards democracy, it will always appear to be the result of Western manipulation. And they’d be right, because that’s exactly what we’d be doing.

The best and most humane thing we can do for Egypt, Iraq, Syria or any country in the midst of such turmoil is to stay the hell out. Let them resolve their problems in their house. Otherwise it will last much longer, and with more problems, than it needs to.

Nik

Shit. Wrong thread. #19 was meant for a different post. :p

Have family members who have volunteered with several of these organizations, and invariably they look for another because of political considerations with which they do not want to be associated. They have found groups which provide medical/dental services to those in need in Central and South America without the extreme security considerations. A win for all.

Yeah, most of the well known groups are political arms of someone whose interests are not mine. Some started that way while others devolved to the same philosophy.

Green Thumb

Oh, wow.

This shit is for real.

And it applies to me?

I thought I was special.
