My squad took him on a foot patrol on the west side of Ramadi in ’05. He seemed so old at the time. I guess its the lack of makeup and primping for TV…..
Being the old man in the platoon no else knew who he was other than he was a Marine and had a TV show. I remember watching him testify at Iran-Contra.
The only time I ever broke discipline on a patrol was when I got him to sign my mission book while waiting for the trucks to come pick us up. Higher didn’t want to make his group walk back to the wire. He was cool.
