Cuomo to NYS Sheriffs: Shut up!
The Albany Times-Union reports that New York’s legacy governor Cuomo recently called his state’s sheriffs to Albany. They thought that he was asking them to discuss the letter they sent him with recommendations to change NYS’ onerous SAFE Act, a restrictive new gun bill that Cuomo and his cronies shoved down the throats of New Yorkers. However, that’s not the reason the sheriffs were summoned to the court of the prince of New York;
Instead, Cuomo pushed the sheriffs to stop publicly speaking out against the act, Moss said.
“The governor was of the opinion that the sheriffs around the state should not be interjecting their personal opinions in reference to the law,” Moss said, adding that Cuomo said sheriffs can’t do that and enforce the law.
One person briefed on the meeting said Cuomo threatened to remove sheriffs from office, a little-used power afforded the state’s chief executive under the state constitution. Moss would not confirm this. He did say the meeting was heated at times, but overall he described it as “cordial.”
Kehoe did not return calls, and Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi declined to comment. An administration official, speaking anonymously because he was not authorized to discuss a private meeting, “strongly” denied Cuomo had threatened to remove any sheriff.
Last week, the Sheriffs’ Association as well as several elected sheriffs filed an amicus curiae brief supporting a federal challenge to the SAFE Act.
Yeah, I’m sure that Cuomo’s bullying tactics, the same bullying tactics he used to get the massively flawed bill through the legislature will work so well against the State’s sheriffs. I’m sure they’re shaking in their boots. Maybe Andrew should tell his daddy on them, too.

Hell hath no fury like a power and publicity-grubbing politician, I wonder just how much stupider Cuomo’s going to get on this issue?
Cuomo–keep pushing that attitude. I’m guessing you’ve already realized your shot at President in 2016 is pretty well gone.
“Sheriffs have been steadfast in their view that although there are some beneficial portions of the SAFE Act, many of its provisions are unworkable or unconstitutional. Thankfully, the SAFE Act contains a severability clause which would allow those constitutional and beneficial portions of the act to survive a legal challenge, while at the same time striking down those portions found to be unconstitutional.”

there are some beneficial portions of the SAFE Act
Such as? While I haven’t studied it closely, I’ve yet to find any significant portion of it which is legal and would drop violent crime or keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
Now MAKING a buttload more criminals, that I see.
Just another red diaper doper baby throwing a tantrum when he doesn’t get his way. Must admit that it is rather satisfying to watch them come unwound. Poor widdle darlings.
You don’t need ten bullets to kill a DEAH!!!!!!!!!
Andy Coumo introducing the S.A.F.E. Act.
Most Sheriffs have publicly stated they will not enforce the Act.
We will see.
The seven bullet limit for all weapons in the State made police weapons also illegal and there was a scramble to rectify that.
Also there was an arrest of an individual recently who was stopped for an unrelated vehicle problem, and mentioned he was a CCW permit holder and was armed and the Trooper inspected his weapon and found more than seven bullets. Under arrest. It will only get worse.
No meeting that is held by an elected public official, to discuss any governing law, should be private. Those are OUR lives those jack*sses are discussing behind closed doors!
AMEN to that, PN!
Yes….
God forbid you would have a brain of your own and disagree with my magnanimity !!!
For crying out loud…
Cuomo is using the same tactics he used when he was HUD Secretary to “fix” our housing and mortgage industries.
I’m surprised that no one is commenting on the similarities between the proposed lowering of blood alcohol limits to .05% and the proposed enhanced background checks. They both target a huge group of non-criminal people who commit a microscopic portion of any related offenses in the name of “doing something” about an already illegal act (selling a gun to a felon or driving drunk.)
