Magpul & Sheriffs sue Colorado

| May 18, 2013

The Washington Times reports that Magpul, the company that makes those excellent magazines for AR-style rifles along with other modifications to the popular rifle, has joined with 54 Colorado sheriff departments in a Federal lawsuit against Colorado’s new gun ban legislation. Magpul says although it’s joined in the lawsuit, it’s still leaving the state, according to a post on their Facebook page.

Just to clarify, we are still moving, regardless of the outcome of this legal action. That train has left the station, and we are well into the selection and negotiation process as well as arranging many elements to be prepared to launch and already moving some production out of state.

This lawsuit, however, could have national implications. If this suit can get a mag ban struck down as unconstitutional, the nation may see a ripple effect across other states who choose not to trust their Citizens with their natural rights. That makes this fight worth fighting even more than just the implications for CO, which would have been enough to get us involved.

The Times reports;

“This isn’t good public policy. These are really awful bills,” said Weld County Sheriff John Cooke at a Friday press conference. “They are unenforceable and encourage disrespect for the law, which puts both law enforcement and the public in greater danger.”

The Democratic state legislature approved the bills, along with a third bill requiring gun owners to pay for their own background checks, with no Republican votes. Democratic state Sen. Mary Hodge issued a statement Friday accusing the sheriffs of “playing politics.”

“We can’t just sit by and do nothing while first-graders and moviegoers are being mowed down in one fell swoop with weapons equipped with large-capacity magazines,” said Ms. Hodge. “It’s time to stop playing politics and start protecting Coloradans from massacres and unnecessary gun violence.”

Yeah, the sheriffs and Magpul are playing politics while the hippies wave bloody shirts claiming that they’re “doing something” dredging up images of dead children regardless of the fact that doing something, this legislation, will actually do nothing in The Greater Scheme of Things.

54 out of 62. The others must be hippie liberal scum.

I have noticed that liberals are now screeching “20 DEAD KIDS!” as a way to end all opposition to taking away gun owners’ rights.

Lefties have never seen a piece of Government Control that they didn’t want to inflict on everyone but them!

CO is one part of flyover country the uber wealthy East & West coast liberals love. The fruits and nuts have taken over. Once a reliably Independent/Republican state is firmly in the blue now – no way a swing state. Magpul sees the writing on the wall.

Apparently “shall not be infringed” isn’t in the Constitution and lawmakers can simply vote parts of that Constitution void as they wish.

I wonder how long this is going to last before the nation resets itself. It’s not of matter of if, but when.

“The Blueprint” describes how this came about, how Colorado went from a reliably conservative state to dominated by the Dems in just a few years, how rich “progressives” used campaign finance regulations and a tractable media to take control of the state and how they think they can export this model to other states. They already are competitive in North Carolina and Virginia (to say nothing of Ohio and Florida) and expect to be competitive in Texas (of all places) very soon. The left is relentless and they never concede defeat on any issue. Unless conservatives and libertarians can develop an effective counter-strategy expect this stuff to continue and spread.

There are a few of them, to be sure. I’d be more than willing to bet that Jefferson, Denver, and Boulder Counties are three of the eight that aren’t signing on. Unfortunately, they’re urban/suburban counties which are heavily populated.

CO is kind of like CA. Get out of Denver and Boulder and it’s a pretty conservative state, just like if you got out of LA or SF, CA is pretty conservative.

Born and raised in Colorado. Actually Republicans out number Democrats but independents out number both. We have always swung one way or another. We have had democrat governors as well as republican ones. The problem is both houses are democrat controlled. A few years ago the gay marriage was voted down by a majority. So what happens is we will not put it to a vote. Since the democrats have the majority we will just legislate what we want. Gun control, civil unions whatever else. Our governor is bought and paid for by the likes of Bloomberg and he will take his marching orders. Trust me, there will be a reckoning and it will not be pretty for the democrats. As a warning to other states, be proactive in the politics because if it can happen here, no one is immune. Even Texas is one amnesty away from this.

John Morse, the State Senator from Colorado Springs behind these gun bills, was only elected (by 346 votes) because a Libertarian got 13% of the vote. There is a recall effort in place to remove him from office. East Coast money has poured in to pay for a bombardment of radio advertising on Morse’s behalf.

The advertisement warns residents to be concerned, demand that these petitioners leave their property, and even to report them to the police. At one point, the narrator says: “Criminals, convicted of forgery, fraud, and even sexual assault – if they are not already, these workers will be in your neighborhood soon.”
