Andre Shepherd still waiting for the Germans to make up their minds

| April 29, 2013

We first met Andre Shepherd in November 2007 when he deserted from the Army while he was stationed in Germany and preparing for a second deployment to Iraq. Of course, his story was that he was tired of killing Iraqis in his job as an Apache technician. Some of his workmates later came on the blog and told us that it was total bullshit. When they were in Iraq the first time he was so incompetent that they wouldn’t let him near an Apache and had him running the unit’s recreation area. So unless he was counting zombies in the video games his mates claimed he played all day long for his deployment, he didn’t see anyone killed, not did he participate in any activity that would result in anyone’s death.

Another guy who knew Shepherd before he joined the Army told us that Shepherd was living in his car and ripping off his friends. In the article today in the Stars & Stripes, Shepherd says that among his hate mail he found a letter from the recruiter who put him in the Army expressing his personal regret.

The real story, according to his fellow troops is that Shepherd has a german girlfriend and didn’t feel comfortable leaving her alone for a year during his deployment – the foundation of any good relationship. But he’s still living in Germany and although the government decided to boot him out back in 2011, he’s still living there awaiting an appeal of the decision;

His personal life has settled in the meantime. Married to a German, finishing his education and working in an office outside Munich, Shepherd has come a long way from his life before the Army when, after failed efforts at school and work, he lived for a time out of the back of his car.

His attorney believes his current circumstances mean he’s unlikely to face deportation, even if he fails to win his case for political asylum.

In an interview earlier this year, the 35-year-old said, despite a lengthy case with little sign of resolution, he doesn’t regret his decision.

“I find this to be a really great adventure,” Shepherd said.

Yeah, treachery is just a great adventure. I hope he chokes on it. Oh, by the way, as if it needed to be said, IVAW’s European branch supported him for a while;

It must be OIF Deserters’ Day here at TAH…may this POS choke on his lieberwurst and be sent to the krankenhaus for some of that frie Deutsch krankenkare…

Political asylum? From what?

Which one of the puffinhalers in that photo is Shepherd? Oh, never mind, let me guess — the one with the dreads. Right?

Combat Historian

Ex-PH2: it’s the dingbat on the left of the photo…

“Einahme Zwei Motrin und im Morgan anrufen mich.”

LebbenB

Es tut mir leidt, “Morgan” should be spelled “Morgen.”

Á gauche? Mon dieu! Claro! Muchas gracias, CH.

Old Trooper

Fuck him. Leave his sorry ass over there. We don’t want, or need, his deserting ass back.

Hondo

Old Trooper: perhaps we can take him into military custody in Germany, try him there, let him serve his sentence in military custody in Europe, hand him his DD paperwork – and then physically throw his sorry ass out the front gate of the kasserne and let him be Germany’s problem thereafter.

It would be a hoot if his girlfriend took a hike while he was in custody, wouldn’t it? (smile)

Twist

I always got a smile when I dropped a dirtbag chapter case off post. At Ft Wainwright I used to drop them off at the gas station accross from Badger Gate. For those that haven’t been there, Badger Gate is on the side of post that is away from Fairbanks.

Every guy would do well to heed lesson #1 and #2

#1: For every good looking chick there is a guy tired of her crap.

#2: Don’t be a wuss.

Basic training needs to be harder. Weed these wussies there instead of in the field.

You are known by the company you keep, Shepherd’s compadres in that photo state pretty much what you need to know about him….

I am far less sympathetic to “conscientious objectors” who volunteered after the war started, or who volunteer at all to be honest…what the f$ck do they think the military is for any way?

If he had been drafted and told to fight or go to jail, perhaps I might have some empathy for his situation. Those who object to the war, as is their right as a citizen, have no need to worry about being forced to be a part of it as a combatant as there is no draft. They can certainly protest the war as civilians, and we can laugh at their silly hippie antics….but to join a war in progress of your own free will and later claim you have personal, moral objections smells like bullsh1t at every level. My tolerance for bullsh1t is relatively low, so after his DD I hope the krauts keep his sorry 4ss….

Re: the photo: now that I know who is who and what is what, ain’t that a nest of vipers!

@John I thought that it might have been George Clinton’s little brother

I agree- hard labor and a DD at the displanry barracks in Germany. He wants his German Citizenship- Oblige him. Just dont blame me when Aldo finds him and collects his sclap.

2/17 Air Cav

He’s only 35. Give the young lad a break. He’s just confused and uncertain what he wants to do when he grows up.

Old Trooper

@9: Yeah, I agree with giving him a Double Douche, but I don’t want to spend a fucking dime on incarcerating his deserting ass, whether here or there. Staple his DD to his junk and drop kick him over the fence.

No, that is what I call with affection to my litter-box avoiding cat Snowie, three “piles of love.”

In other words, three worthless turds.

Nice pic of Larry, Curly and Moe. With apologies to the 3 Stooges.
