Anti-Gun trolls
MCPO Ret. in TN sends us a link to Guns America which warns about some trolls dropping off posts on blogs and discussion forums that are being spammed with conspiracy theories that they think are generated by Bloomberg’s Mayor’s Against Gun Owners organization. The story goes like this;
It is a “whistleblower” post about the explosions at the Boston Marathon, warning that it is some kind of false flag to ban the private sale of gun powder. I believe this “warning” is meant to be re-posted on gun blogs and boards, and on a quick Google search, I see that it has already hit the FAL Files and a few survival boards. We am not going to include the post in this email because there is no benefit in spreading it, but it begins “I work on a security commission and I’ve just received word to start on a campaign we’ve been working on for the last two months and now it all makes sense.”
The “warning” then goes on to say that that explosions were a pre-planned event meant to result in the banning of the private sale of gun powder, and that a young person is to be arrested Friday with NRA magazines in his possession. The creators of this farce are hoping Alex Jones and all of the conspiracy websites pick it up, and some of them already have. We believe that this is a Bloomberg shill to make us look stupid, and ruthless, that we would co-opt a tragedy to further our cause.
I just did a quick check of Google and saw where that line in the Guns America post has been repeated on a couple of blogs. We don’t fall for conspiracy theorist trolls here normally, so I might have discovered it on my own, you know, if I had the requisite amount of coffee coursing through my veins at the time, but now we all know. In fact there are several conspiracy theories that I’m ignoring this week – so if you email me something and you don’t see a post on your tip, it’s not because I’m ignoring you, I’m ignoring the story. I’m not telling you which I’m ignoring, because that wouldn’t be ignoring, would it?

WGN reporter in Boston reports on mid-day news that the FBI conference is being held this afternoon and that CNN is reporting that someone is being held.
People say they smelled cordite after the explosion and the burns are pretty much what every deployed soldier who sees a home-made explosion knows about peroxide bombs. This wasn’t a false flag, this was a homegrown or homemade. A false flag wouldn’t look so disorganized.
However, I know it isn’t being reported, but I wonder what happened to the black duffel bag that was reported in the hospital ER waiting room… Now that we know the bombs were stuffed inside black duffel bags.
To be honest, I would not be surprised if some group or another doesn’t try and use this to gin up support for banning gun powder sales but that would just be standard blood dancing that we expect from the anti groups.
#2 Flagwaver: was it cordite, or was it gunpowder (black powder)? Heard tale folks said they smelled gunpowder.
Not that I expect anyone beyond the bomb dogs in Boston to know the difference. I don’t.
I have to agree with Instinct. It won’t be long until someone uses this cowardly attack to push an agenda.
I doubt we will see an agenda until the perps are caught; but afterwards…hold onto your teeth, maw!
PintoNag: I take it you haven’t seen these stories, then?

OK, we need to enact regulations and register all that buy or possess pressure cookers. (Sarcasm intended)
Pressure cookers don’t need explosives to blow up.
Developing story is that an arrest has been made in the Marathon bombing.
Well, if freakin foreigners could take flying lessons and skip the landing instruction w/o sending off bells, I suppose a fellow could clean a store out of pressure cookers w/o creating a buzz. He had to have more than two, if only for practice. We’ll see. This despicable bombing will not hurt those who desire a police state, that’s for sure.
Forget restricting sale of gun powder. We need to ban the backpacks. At the very least we need a background check first and a registry after the fact. Then the next time something like this happens, we’ll have a ready made list of homes to search. On a more serious note, if they restrict gunpowder, bombers will just make it at home, which might make it harder to trace.
FBI to make an announcement at 1700.
The MSN mainpage leader disappeared. What source are you using, Twist? Is there a link?
CNN is also announcing there will be a briefing at 17:00
Both CNN and Fox are reporting that:

Apparently the spam filter got me, but what Hondo posted works as well.
PN, Try the ‘breaking news’ section on MSN’s front page.
Thanks, all. On it now!
The obvious answer is that scary looking black backpacks and transportable bags of all sorts should be made illegal. Tough if you happen to already own black luggage.
Hardwalled black luggage could be grandfathered but all soft sided black luggage (to include purses and totes) should be made immediately illegal. Black leather purses with a capacity of less than 1 quart liquid volume would be exempt, if it has a handle or shoulder sling of less than 14 inches.
AirCav, buying up every pressure cooker in one store is the wrong thing to do. Any spy novelist will tell you that. You buy one here and one there, and you pay cash. Then you go and find a rock quarry where you test out your product.
In addition to Monday’s events, someone has been sending ricin-loaded envelopes to the White House and several Republican senators’ offices.
Another lone wolf or a copycat? Good question.
@21. Yes, of course. Renting a truck so that it can be traced back to you and loading it with explosives is also the wrong thing to do. Buying a shitload of ammonium nitrate from one seller AND renting a truck is also wrong. Nevertheless, these murderous clowns do such things.
An envelope laced with Ricin?
It’s time to ban the mail.
In addition to #23, you shouldn’t go to the truck rental place and demand a refund after you blow up your truck (that’s how the FBI arrested the truck bombers of the WTC in ’93)
By the way, now they’re saying that there is NO arrest of any suspect.
@25. I forgot about that!
“There has been an arrest.”
“There has not been an arrest.”
These guys must have attended the ABC News School of Reporting. (‘Reagan wasn’t shot. Reagan was shot. Jim Brady is dead. Jim Brady isn’t dead.’)
@26 & 27 And it’s just this kind of nonsense that starts the conspiracy theories in the first place. It smacks of a cover-up, when it’s more likely that it’s a rush for the breaking story on the MSM’s part causing all the confusion.
Reporters don’t investigate. They only repeat what someone tells them. This is no longer a news reporting environment that got verified facts to you.
Most of the current crop of reporters are chosen for how good they look on TV, not on their IQs.
DaveO and Flagwaver – Cordite is almost an obsolete propellant – unless the bomber was breaking down a bunch of old .416 Rigby or .500 Nitro rounds, most likely someone was referring to the more modern ammonia smell of most modern smokeless powder. Of course, there is always that lovely rotten egg smell to true black powder.
And agreeing wioth PH2 – if there is a modern reporter who knows smokelss powder from smokeleess tobacco, I haven’t seen him/her yet.
