Legacy Governor Cuomo blames Bloomberg and Brady people for SAFE Act

| April 7, 2013

So you know that ate-up POS gun control law that rammed down the throats of New Yorkers called the SAFE Act? Well, the legacy governor, Andrew Cuomo wants you to know that it wasn’t his fault – it was the Bloomberg people and the Brady campaign who wrote it. I mean, disregard for a moment that Cuomo signed it and rode herd on the bill while it when through the legislature, but you didn’t really think he’d read it or try to understand the problems with the bill that Republicans tried to tell him about do you?

From the New York Post;

A Cuomo administration source is flatly denying the governor’s claim that his new anti-gun SAFE Act was carefully drafted, saying the governor himself wasn’t even aware of some provisions when it was hastily enacted into law.

“The governor thought the limit on the size of [gun] magazines would only apply to assault-style rifles, not to handguns,’’ said the source.

“That’s why there’s the big problem now with handguns, among other things in the statute.’’

The legal sale of virtually all semiautomatic handguns will soon be impossible because Cuomo’s law limits the size of bullet-holding magazines to seven shots, virtually none of which are manufactured for sale.

“Much of what’s in the law was drafted by people connected to Mayor Bloomberg and the Brady Center, not by the governor’s staff,” the source said. “That’s why there are so many problems with it.’’

Well, this only reinforces my contention all along that the only people who are against guns and gun ownership are ignorant about their function and uses. They’re totally ignorant about the entire issue – because they’re not interested in the fine points, they only know that “guns are bad” and that’s enough for them to have knee-jerk reactions and to try to legislate from that reaction.

The Washington Post runs an article today that blames the NRA for people losing interest in the gun control debate in the country, but that’s false. People have lost interest in the “national discussion” because one side is trying to restrict the rights of the other side, but they’re totally ignorant about the things they’re trying to legislate. Americans are not inclined to be seen as listening to total morons.

“Americans are not inclined to be seen as listening to total morons.”

And yet look who is still in the WH……

ComancheDoc

and here I was under the impression that the NRA and various other gun rights groups were and are instrumental is keeping the people aware and involved in the political maneuvering of the gun control people by preventing them from completely fabricating mindless doublespeak for people to consume with no adverse reactions. brb I have an appointment in rm101 i told…

Ex-PH2

@1 – That doesn’t mean anyone is listening to him, does it?

It’s almost time to look for eggs to launch.

Jonn, you certainly can’t be surprised by this now, can you? I think we all saw this coming. After all, the legislators in that state all felt compelled to “DO SOMETHING” in reaction to Sandy Hook, and they did. The other part of the problem is there are legislators that occupy the state house in Albany who don’t know ANYTHING about guns, how they operate, and confuse the facts about their nomenclature.

I’m sure you would agree that this is happening all across the country. The only people who are well informed about guns are the ones that have them and are law abiding. Everyone else is being reactionary and, at the end of the day, they’re the ones truly being irresponsible.

OK, let’s set aside the question of whether or not we agree with the law. Even the grabbiest of gun grabbers should have a problem with the fact that Cuomo is not only admitting he signed a bill into law without reading it, he’s actually USING IT AS A DEFENSE!

OWB

Here’s a clue, Gov: YOU signed it and it became law. Whether you read it prior to signing is quite irrelevant. You own it.

Sounds as if king Andrew is catching some political heat for the so called “Safe Act” and does not want to be held accountable when companies begin leaving that crappy state. So like all good commies, he blames someone else. Just as my daughters did when they were little; the wind did it, it wasn’t me, she did it, the dog did it etc. But in NY they are so ignorant they will elect this POS to another taxpayer funded position.

2/17 Air Cav

There are about 220 members of the NYS legislature. How many voted for Cuomo’s SAFE Act? I dunno. Of those who voted for it, name, oh, three or four. I can’t. Probably, neither can you. What do we know about its passage? That Cuomo wanted it, that Cuomo went on TV in support of it, that Cuomo speechified about it, and that Cuomo signed it. As OWB says, he owns it.

One final thought on this:

Jahwn Fawkin’ Kerry said it’s every American’s right to be stupid, so I think Cuomo, et al, are just exercising that right.

PigmyPuncher

BS GOVERNOR! You knew what was in it, and now that there are a record number of voters pissed off, your looking for an easy way out…

DaveO

I agree with the Instapundit on this: set a waiting period between drafting legislation/rule/regulation and enacting it. Even better: post the new law so that citizens may crowd-review it. The thing about that is setting an auditor in place to ensure Soros and the Prognazis and their Ronulan allies don’t overwhelm the comment system with sockpuppetry.

As for Cuomo: folks have known Cuomo’s attention to detail doesn’t extend beyond the mirror. That is why he’s New York’s governor. Being a lawyer, Cuomo is unfamiliar with law, but he lives for his next promotion. The SAFE Act was Cuomo’s opening shot at the nomination for POTUS, so I’m not buying his sudden ignorance for a second.

Cuomo, the man who would be the face on the Big Brother poster… until this jacked-up royally. Sorry, can’t blame Bush.

Fen

“governor himself wasn’t even aware of some provisions when it was hastily enacted SIGNED into law.”

That should be impeachable. Of course, if he had any shame to begin with, he would resign.

Note to self:
1) move to NYC,
2) slip in a provision declaring yourself dictator for life
3) profit

…because the Governor of NY doesn’t read the bills before he signs them into law.

LIRight

I live in this GD state – – and am still getting over the fact that Republican Senate Leader Dean Skelos (as in: skel)from Long Island was THANKED by Cuomo for his support in passing the “safe act” in Albany some weeks back. UNBELIEVABLE!

Yeah, I know, move. I’ll just continue to bitch, since I can’t move…..too many ties here.

Rob

Fen,

Exactly. Voting for, passing, or signing any law should be an automatically impeachable offense.

It’ll never happen, but it needs to.

Old Trooper

@10: Yep. I don’t think he was forced at gun point to stand up in front of the cameras and crow and show his ass like he did. He was acting mighty arrogant while shouting and spitting in front of the media, as I seem to recall, too.

Ex-PH2

Is this because governor Andy C is getting a backlash from people who he did not let have a say in the matter?

B Woodman

Ummm. . . . . WHO’s supposed to be in charge?? WHICH is higher? Governor, mayor, or action PAC?
‘Fess up Cum-o, you own this, lock, stock & two smoking barrels.

A_Proud_Infidel

Like John *BLEEP*ing Kerry said “Everyone has the right to be stupid…” , but liberals ABUSE THE PRIVILEGE 24/7!!

It’s late. I have stuff to do tomorrow. Got stuff done today, but my mind wandered away from Norkland, so I checked back on it to see if it’s still awake and kicking its little feet. Norkmaster Li’l Kim Fatty da T’ird must have a full diaper. Looks like he’s getting ready to let one fly already. Last one was in February. He got scolded for that.

Here you go:

Oh, yeah, that missile launch thingy? I guess he’s moving the date up to this Wednesday, after all, instead of waiting for Grandpa Big Kim’s birthday on 4/15. I’ll keep an eye out and let you know.

Ex-PH2

Boy, I must be tired. Posted #20 in the wrong column. Goes in Norks are coming!

B Woodman

Ex-PH2,
Wrong column or not, thanks for the heads up anyway.

Guy dives headfirst into the shitpile, rolls around in it, then claims he was tossed into it by Bloomy and the Brady Bunch.

Whazza matter, Cuomo? Someone show you that your chances of the 2016 Dem nomination for president just went to warm runny shit?

Ex-PH2

@23 – Maybe he started getting “I hate you, you jackass” mail and didn’t like it.

If this isn’t a sign of delusional behavior, I don’t know what else you could call it. He promoted it. He publicized it. He refused to listen to reasonable arguments against. He rammed it down everyone’s throat. He signed it. His name is on it. He owns it. And now, he’s denying he had anything to do with it?

There’s only one solution to that.

FIRE HIS ASS RIGHT NOW.

David

Objection to all the statements that purportedly show “Cuomo owns it”: More to the point, it shows that Bloomberdg et al own Cuomo.

NHSparky

Which makes me wonder if Bloomy wants to run NY state after he’s done screwing up NYC at the end of this year.

MGySgtRet.

I love when the shit-weasels turn on each other….

What a whiny little girl he is!

Got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, now he’s getting scholded for it and doesn’t like it.

Tough bananas, Andrew, you slimy little pissant wimpazoid.
