Daily Show on the VA’s incompetence

| March 29, 2013

Paul sends us a link to the Daily Show a couple of days ago in which Jon Stewart explains the VA’s problems to the low information viewers.

I’m not a fan of the Daily Show – which is why someone has to send me the link – but Stewart, in spite of all of his other faults is good on veterans issues and since there are people out there who consider the Daily Show on Comedy Central their primary source of news, I guess we can’t have a better spokesman for the low information voters. Not that any of them are going to punish the Democrats for this single issue, but at least it will help them understand where we’re coming from.

That’s a heckuva piece right there. I still don’t care for Stewart but he did a great service in that 5-6 minute segment.

AC–even a broken clock gets it right a couple of times a day….

I don’t think you guys understand The Daily Show or The Colbert Report.

2/17 Air Cav

@2. Unless it’s a military clock!

@3. What’s to understand? They are comedians who share the DNA of Dick Cavett and the characters on Laugh-In.

Jeebus, between this, Maher complaining about being taxed too much and Darryl Hannah on O’Reilly and not sounding too crazy, my whole world is turned upside down.

That was all fine and dandy until the last part where apparently getting results equates to obstruction. How the hell are there so many claims? The rate of increase is insane and yet op tempo is down compared to when there was Afghanistan & Iraq.

OWB

Sounded rather like a claim that Reps are better problem solvers? Wow, just wow.

Mud

#6 All those Marines and Soldiers responsible for the high op tempo are now out and putting in claims…. Those not caught in this never ending circle of hell should be thankful.

If you’ve lost Jon Stewart, you’ve lost America’s college grads still living with ma & pa….

Its like he is just about there and almost has it and loses it at the end. Its like watching a kid do a simple math problem almost get the equation right then fuck it up. 5+5=11?

@10 – That’s a great analogy!

Sadly, for the under-informed, I’ll bet 2/3ds of the audience and T.V. watchers still didn’t get it, or really even care to begin with.

Shinsucky was the commencement speaker at my college graduation a few years ago. I did not attend because who wants to listen to that dickbag talk for 40 minutes? During graduation weekend I was walking out of a restaurant with my family when Shinsuckys black SUV with security pulled into the alley way. My biggest regret in life was not spitting on him.

Does anyone honestly believe a computer system is going to fix this entire problem? No, better doctors, more rating officers, a new ratings manual that isn’t littered with complicated and contradictory jargon, and employees who actually give a shit about the Veterans will cut this down. Shinsucky says the backlog will be no more by 2015. That is fucking insulting to every Veteran and the American people. So what the hell has everyone been doing for the past 10 years? If you could fix it two years from now, you could have fixed it two plus years ago when this problem started to arise! You want to know how that backlog will be reduced by 2015? Paperwork will get lost or shredded (happened before), or they will deny claims to juke the numbers and stats. It’s a game. There is no sense of urgency within the VA. As a VA employee and a Veteran it is sickening.

So, I came here looking to send this daily show piece, and this site apparently has an SEO wizard (nicely done, sir or ma’am), so it was the first one.

I should tell you some things about myself.

I’ve got a JD. I run a fast growing business and create opportunity for others across 3 states and 3 times zones.

. And I’m a progressive. About six clicks to the left of center-right Obama.

Why do you hate me? I can’t understand why you think I am stupid? Or evil, or what. I bet if I sat down and talked with any of you, we’d agree on a lot more than that the VA should take care of veterans.

But we won’t because there is some real condescending hatred going on here. Can’t we treat eachother like people? Get ahold of yourselves. Both sides get so worked up over their narrative that we allow the jackals on both sides of the aisle to allow immoral and fixable problems like this.

Anyway, it bummed me out to come on here and see all the venom.

Anyone wants to have a drink and civil conversation in LA, let me know.
