Legacy Governor seeks to repeal his gun law

| March 21, 2013

From our buddy, JammieWearingFool, Legacy Governor Cuomo has decided that his law restricting firearm magazines to seven rounds isn’t practical since there’s no such thing (well, except for standard 1911-style magazines – but I think even those have been generally expanded to eight rounds) so he has to remake the law;

As a result, he said, he and legislative leaders were negotiating language that would continue to allow the sale of magazines holding up to 10 rounds, but still forbid New Yorkers from loading more than 7 rounds into those magazines.

“There is no such thing as a seven-bullet magazine,” Mr. Cuomo said at a news conference. “That doesn’t exist. So you really have no practical option.”

You’d almost think that they don’t know what they’re talking about, either while they were writing their law or now. So, let’s recap, shall we? First they didn’t realize that they had restricted magazine capacity for the police and police retirees, now they’re coming to the realization that no one makes magazines for their specifications, although we’ve been telling them for weeks.

I’m still wondering what they meant when they said something about arresting a homeowner who is “found” to have more than seven rounds in a magazine. Are they going to start searching homes, or is that on tips from their new hotline for snitches with axes to grind with the neighbor?

I’ll bet lawyers are moving to New York State in droves.

“forbid New Yorkers from loading more than 7 rounds into those magazines”

New York is getting the government it deserves.

The arrests will come. The Rat Line will work and police will come to one’s home and ask permission to come in and, whether or not entrance is permitted, will saythese or similar words: “We are investigating a report of illegal weaponry in your home. Do you own any firearms?” And that’s where the fun begins. Most law-abiding folks are nervous when a police car is behind them on the road but when police come to the house, they’re truly frightened. And that’s the police advantage. People are not inclined to say, “No, you can’t come in.” Nor are most inclined to ask, “Am I suspected of committing a crime?” This is going to be ugly. Very ugly. Good citizens will now either become lawbreakers or begin divesting themselves of guns and magazines. Oh, they’ll mutter and curse but will comply. You can bank on it.

Well, I see stupid has gotten any smarter since the last time I checked.

“…stupid HASN’T gotten…” Sorry. Stupid of me.

Judging from the headline I thought maybe Cuomo’s poll numbers were dropping faster than my ex-wife’s pants.

NHSparky

Nothing dropped that fast, Twist.

HEY-YOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

This is a classic case of the Pelosi-ism of passing the bill to find out what’s it. Then they find out this knee-jerk bill holds up about as well as cotton candy at Niagra Falls? Unpossible!

PN, it’s like Ron White’s saying, “No matter what you try, YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID, stupid is forever!!”. Liberals perpetually prove he’s right !

In Minnesota, while hunting for ducks you can only have three rounds in your shotgun. Since most shotguns are designed to hold more than three, you are supposed to put in a plug by the spring that limits you to three.

I imagine New York is thinking along those lines-having a plug or spacer in with the spring to physically stop you from loading more than 7 rounds. Of course, this wont be visible without a detailed inspection, so this is more of an after the fact type law, or secondary. Only when the cops arrest you for something else are they going to be able to see and prove that you have more than 7 rounds in a magazine.

The dumb fucks all grunt “ugh” in unison and pass a law without a clue that, except for the 1911, there are no seven round mags out there. And, as someone pointed out above, 8 rounders are as common as dirt. Can they really be that dumb?

Herbert J Messkit

Is there evidence that the 7 round limit was a planned scheme to limit people to revolvers?

Frankly Opinionated

How would New York view the 12 round tubular magazine on my Henry Carbine?

To all the LE-types out there from NY: since this ‘law’ is ‘unenforceable’ how can you honestly answer a tip to the hotline? How is it possible ANYTHING would be unlawful that they would report?

If it were that bad, wouldn’t they dial 911 instead?

NY should abolish the gunline since apparently, they couldn’t enforce anything found anyway…

Chicago has an anonymous hotline. It’s called “911”. They don’t pay ‘informants’, either.

There’s also one up here in the sticks where I live. It’s also called “911”. No informants get paid for tips here.

Shorter Cuomo: Damn that O’Malley! Damn that Hickenlooper! Copycats! Send me money!

Now I think Cuomo’s talking about them evil assault magazines, but still, he did say “There is no such thing as a seven-bullet magazine . . .”.

Now, technically he’s right, because magazines don’t hold “bullets”. But TAH readers know that. And I’m sure Cuomo doesn’t know the difference, so he’s wrong.

See, I’ve got a James Bond gun that comes with wither 6 or 7 round magazines. The Walther PPKS. Or as it’s most commonly known, the Smith & Wesson.

Proof positive that Cuomo doesn’t know WTF he’s talking about.

Just read “Chicago has an anonymous hotline. It’s called “911? . . .”

Have I got news for us all! 911 is not anonymous. It is easy to trace, and they don’t need your name. Even cell calls can be traced within seconds. Once a 911 call is logged, police assert they have every right to search the location, the “immediate vicinity”, including forcibly enter your home and threaten until names are given.

Wrong though they are, since 911 calls can be used to make false reports, they cannot meet the standards set forth by the 4th. But then, the courts are complicit.

Bear that in mind when considering where to store the bulk of your … gear.

Ex-PH2

@20 — So you’ve never heard of borrowing someone else’s phone, burn phones, turning off GPS nodes, using calling cards, using pay phones? Yeah, pay phones still exist.

And 911 emergency calls are free of charge. I still have my old cell phone. I can still use it to call 911, still has my old number, but doesn’t exist as a working line. And for your information, ALL 911 calls are anonymous, so anyone in the world could be spoofing your phone number, dumbass.
