Parent gives school failing grade

| March 21, 2013

Gary sends us a link to a local TV station in Corpus Christi where a parent was shocked when she that the school was teaching her child stuff in direct contrast to the lessons she was teaching at home;

One worksheet on the Bill of Rights names food and medicine as rights, not personal responsibility. “He got marked wrong, because it is, it is our responsibility for shelter, its our responsibility for food for medicine, its not the government’s responsibility,” [the mother, Kara Sands] said.

I guess she was especially upset, and rightly so, that the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001 were blamed on the US rather than the terrorists and that her son was marked for a correct answer.

I’d suggest that if you read the entire article at the link, you should probably stay out of the comments, I guess there are more hippies in the Corpus Christi area than I thought.

And people wonder how Obama got elected TWICE.

Twist

The comments on the article make me want to kick a puppy.

Puppies can’t vote. Hippies can. Tell me where is the justice in the world again?

NR Pax

You know what’s worse Sparky? Punching hippies is still considered wrong.

This and the Amazing Race……there are days when I feel this country is doomed….

@NR Pax…that doesn’t stop me from scary the piss out of them.

I’ve heard this happening at a few places, it’s one of the reasons they frown upon home schooled because you can’t be brainwashed into being an Obamabot.

Texas is experiencing a problem with the CSCOPE curriculum, and parents in lots of communities are crying foul.

The weird part is the district that this school is in is one of the more conservative and typically goes conservative in elections.

But the people who live in the area (Flour Bluff – physically separated from CC by bridges) are known as “Bluff Rats” because they are more independent; have a beach bum attitude (some) since it right next to Padre Island; is right next to some of the best fishing; hosts the Naval base (along with what that brings – although all the strip clubs are in town?).

Sadly, the elementary school is right next to my father’s house. I went to the high school, and since early 2000 it has one of the best Navy JROTC programs in the country. The school is considered one of best in education in CC, because of the transfer of military brats into this school and it’s not part of the overall CC school district. It is a real kick in the nuts to see this happen!

ComancheDoc

isn’t CSCOPE an adultered version of the craptastic Common Core curriculum? Ugh, places worth living in seem to be getting fewer and fewer.

I found this article on “The Blaze”:

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/03/07/cscope-exposing-the-nations-most-controversial-public-school-curriculum-system/

This is in the first paragraph: “parents were allegedly not permitted to review lesson-plans”. There are links to more articles regarding what the teachers are expected to use as educational materials. The revisionist history approach (Boston Tea Party was a terrorist event) is beyond disturbing. The dumbing down of any school curriculum is inexcusable to begin with, but lying to these kids, and making teachers sign a gag order about the class materials is not about teaching; it’s about controlling them.

Then check this alternative online education site:

http://www.connectionsacademy.com/texas-houston-school/curriculum/high-school/home.aspx

There is also Khan Academy, which is free to everyone:

http://www.khanacademy.org/

More dissturbing is the note in the article that the White House wants to make CSOPE required teaching material in all school systems.

Twist, please don’t kick puppies. Kick a football instead.

ComancheDoc

Love Khan Academy; I also recommend openculture.org for the sheer variety of classes available for free.

I looked up the 6th-12th grade school curriculum for my county. It’s pretty standard, posted as a pdf online. I have seen the schoolbooks the kids use. One of the kids handed his history book to me. It weighs about 8 pounds. No wonder these kids have backaches. I also looked through it. The amount of material crammed into that textbook was incredible, and no, none of it was revisionist.

If parents don’t pay attention to what is going on in their schools, this kind of thing is allowed to pass. Contrast the CSOPE story with this from 2010:

http://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/headlines/20100521-Texas-State-Board-of-Education-approves-9206.ece

Looks to me like CSCOPE made a hell of a sale pitch to the SBOE without proper review of its classroom materials.

The real problem that no one in Texas has considered is that when these children apply to universities and colleges where they are expected to perform.

Oops, didn’t finish my sentence. Sorry. No caffeine in system.

The real problem that no one in Texas has considered is that when these children apply to universities and colleges where they are expected to perform, they won’t be able to do so.

Twist

Don’t worry, my son’s new Puggle puppy is safe.

You can buy a blowup doll, dress it up like a hippy slob and kick that, if it will help relieve stress and tension.

Hello! Anyone, I mean anyone, who has one iota of an idea about government school education is not surprised by any of this report – even in conservative – especially in conservative places. (Conservatives in such places are lulled into believing all others believe what they believe and can not fathom kooky leftest teachers believing it is their responsibility to counter the conservative values of these parent’s.) My suggestion is today; today! Pull your children out of their local public school and educate them at home. You don’t believe they should be indoctrinated into LGBT lifestyle but they are. You don’t believe they should receive sex education (“Health education” for those less informed.) until you say they are, but they are. You don’t believe this sex education should be presented without being presented alongside a message of fidelity and marriage, but it is. You don’t believe your children should be removed by strangers to receive an abortion at a clinic not of your choosing, by a doctor not of your choosing and all without your parental consent, but they are. You don’t believe school’s should, or can hide curriculum they are teaching to your children from you, but they are. You believe your Constitutional Authority trumps administrator’s authority when requesting transparency, but it doesn’t. You don’t believe your children should be exposed to popular media which undermines your values and authority at school, but they are. You don’t believe your children should be bullied and schools protect children from such behavior, but they are. How many more don’t’s are necessary before you realize your children need your protection from Government Schools?
