Israeli aircraft strike Syrian targets

| January 31, 2013

The Washington Post reports that Israel took it upon itself to strike an unverified target inside Syrian borders. reports are that it was a truckload of weapons headed for the countries’ shared border. Of course, Syria’s remaining allies Russia and Iran are protesting loudly;

“Those who have had harsh approaches toward the conflict in Syria must now take affective measures against this aggression by Tel Aviv and consider the security of the region,” Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, said in a report published by the Mehr News Agency.

Iran and Hezbollah said Wednesday’s strike was proof of Assad’s longtime claim that the civil war raging in Syria is the work of outside groups, rather than rebels from inside the country.

Russia, Syria’s strongest international ally, said Moscow is taking “urgent measures to clarify the situation in all its details,” AP reported, citing a statement issued by Russia’s foreign ministry. “If this information is confirmed, we have a case of unprovoked attacks on targets in the territory of a sovereign state, which grossly violates the U.N. Charter and is unacceptable. Whatever the motives, this is not justified,” the statement said.

I’m pretty sure that the Israelis saw a threat headed their way – they haven’t sent aircraft to Syria since 2007 when they bombed a Syrian nuclear facility, so it’s not like it’s an everyday occurrence. And it’s not like the community of nations would bother to listen to Israel’s protestations if they tried to use the diplomatic approach.

Israel is about as popular as the NRA and the Tea Party in MSM circles – the blame Israel crowd. B.B. Netanyahu being friends with Romney, and the lecturing he gave Obama a while back only adds to the scorn from the left…how soon before we see pictures of dead women and children caused by evil IDF air strikes?. Now you got Ghengis Jawn as Secy of State and Chuck Hagel, as we speak going thru confirmation hearings for SECDEF…yeah, with friends like these…

“Whatever the motives, this is not justified”

Wrong, the Syrians have proven themselves to be an enemy to Israel. Israel has the right to defend itself, doing so pre-emptively is a very wise choice in any conflict.

If we learn nothing else from the Israelis we should learn this simple lesson, when someone tells you they want to kill you it’s a good idea to believe them and act accordingly.

“If this information is confirmed, we have a case of unprovoked attacks on targets in the territory of a sovereign state, which grossly violates the U.N. Charter and is unacceptable”. Wait, the Russians are worried about the U.N. charter and “unprovoked attacks”? Are you sure this didn’t come from The Onion?

Boy Russia is with us all the way, glad Hillary and the boy kind were able to “Reset” thing with all their smart power

Twist

The same Russia that rolled into Georgia is complaining about attacks on targets in the territory of a sovereign state?
