Sporting goods store stops selling sporting goods
Living up to their name, Dick’s, the sole vendor of Troy Industries‘ weapons inventory has decided that they won’t fill orders which were placed before Christmas for those semi-automatic rifles according to The Blaze in a link sent to us by Chief Tango;
Dick’s announced a week before Christmas that it was suspending sales of “modern sporting rifles” in all stores, “out of respect for the victims of the Connecticut massacre,” CBS News 11 notes.
I’ve noticed a lot of companies are doing similar stuff. For example, Amazon used to sell rifle magazines and before the end of the weekend before Christmas, they stopped. When I finally found some magazines for sale at Bass Pro Shops, I discovered that PayPal wouldn’t approve the sale because it was rifle magazines. It didn’t kill my order, but it was a minor inconvenience. Their loss.
Cheaper Than Dirt thought better of their initial decision to stop selling weapons from their online shop.
I guess, politically, it’s easier to piss off gun owners than it is to piss off the perpetually outraged of the Left. But would any of those companies be brave enough to deny a health care benefit that provided abortions to their employees? I don’t think so.

Added to Amazon’s millions donated to socially engineer us here in Washington State in the last election, and this is all reason enough to never spend another fricking dime with those clowns… as difficult as that is.
I’m glad Cheaper Than Dirt came to their senses and realized they over-reacted. Too bad Dick’s didn’t.

I find it interesting that the same ones that use something that isn’t explicitly written in the Constitution as a basis for a “right” and have no restrictions on it want to then put more restrictions on something that is explicitly written out in that same Constitution.
I was wondering what the deal was with Cheaper Than Dirt’s website. I have used them as a source for price matching on base.
Hobby Lobby has told HHS to pound sand. We will see how that works out.

Out of respect for the victims? Out of respect for the victims Dicks ought to be increasing its inventory to help people protect themselves from other would-be executioners. I wonder who suspended the sales of box cutters after the 9/11 attacks. I wonder which car makers suspended production of the their vehicles after certain car-bomb attacks. This is sheer stupidity and will not win over anyone from the left because they want ALL gun sales ended. So long as the head of Dick’s (yes, he is called the Dick Head) wants to play political games, he had better be prepared to lose mucho dinero.
Troy should make a direct offer to every person who ordered one of their offers. They should also sue Dick’s for breach of contract considering that they spent millions to support an exclusive contract with them for those rifles.
Fortunately, we have many other sources in our area so we don’t need to shop at Dick’s ever again. We have one Bass Pro and there are two Cabela’s that will open soon. My son found a teeny tiny gun shop close by that is selling the handgun he wants for at least $100 less than anywhere else.
My New Year’s wish is for Dick’s to go out of business within 12 months.

Schrank’s has been around since 1964. Their sales spiked with the recent hysteria on the part of the lefties.
They also sell cigars.
“Dicks” indeed. Too bad for them. They’ll eventually realise they’ve made a mistake by selling modern rifles since there’s a rush on them.
It’s always interesting to find out what a company’s posture is on things. I’d rather spend my money with one that has like-minded principles as I do. Dick’s (and others) have lost my business.
Dick’s is already being sued. There were several people in the Dallas/Ft Worth area that actually paid for the ARs that were being sold, and Dick’s refused to deliver them. The local news report said there is an attorney in the local area that is working on turning it into a class action suit. If they don’t want to sell an item, that is up to them, I don’t own the store, but it would have been way cheaper for them to deliver the weapons that they had already received payment for.
cheaper than dirt s website still lets you look at guns but if you click them a message pops up that they do not sell firearms…
I’m one of these: I went on Black Friday at midnight to purchase one of these Troys, and when it got to be my turn at the gun desk, I had forgotten I needed three forms of ID so I had to give up my place (I guess a VA driver’s license and CCW permit isn’t good enough, but shoot, add in there a voter’s card and I’m golden ).
So when I went back a two AM with my golden voter’s card, I was told that the Troy they had was sold, and helpfully, sold to an EMPLOYEE. They promised they would order it, and I proceeded to do that. I even opened a Dick’s credit card to pay for it as that gave an additional 10% off and bonus spending points…..I figured it would be worth it.
So, I’m going around thinking my rifle is on order, but is taking a long time…so be it. A month later-a month that they’ve had my money mind you-and no rifle, or even an update on the status (calls to Dick’s were no help).
Fast forward to Christmas eve and I get an overnight letter with a copier-copied form letter stating essentially “so sorry, we can’t fulfill your order at this time” (no other reason), that they’d credit my account, and a $100 gift certificate.
Un-freaking-acceptable. Days later, I even got a credit card bill with the whole amount.
And two days later-I got the first credit card bill too-with the whole amount.
I’m fuming.
Oh yeah-did I mention my wonderful wife got me ammo and Magpuls for Christmas presents to go along with the rifle and those gifts were moot? (I’m one thing, but making my wife feel badly really pisses me off.)

The statement from Troy’s, available through the link in Jonn’s post, makes absolutely clear without saying it outright that Troy Industries is about to slam Dicks with a helluva lawsuit.
Was getting ready to go spend some money at Dick’s myself, but that plan has changed radically.
This is going to get very interesting. Sometimes (and this is definitely one of those times) law suits are wonderful things to watch unfold, even for us non-lawyer types.
Bad decision, Dick’s. But it will certainly be entertaining for the rest of us as you are brought down a few pegs.
(Are there enough loony lefties to make up for the lost revenue Dick’s has brought upon itself??)
@18: It would do my heart good to watch Dick’s get dick slapped over this, but I think that is just wishful thinking on our part. They must figure that people who buy guns, only buy guns and nothing else. What they don’t know, and are going to find out, is that while losing the gun business, they are also going to lose other business and then reality is gonna hit them smack dab in the forehead. hopefully it will be too late for them to try and get some of that business back and the decision makers, who went down this path, will end up on the street. Others are more than happy to pick up the demand. I know I have heard from a couple of leftist relatives, with a bit of smugness, about the whole Cerbus thing. i pointed out that someone else will buy up their share and make money while Cerbus goes elsewhere and nothing is going to change. They didn’t like that very much.
Something else occurs, but a few of our lawyers might want to weigh in on this idea.
Since it appears that Dick’s is refusing to deliver a product already paid for by the customer, and at least one customer that we know of has been billed for the product Dick’s is refusing to deliver and apparently also is refusing to refund the money they took, shouldn’t this be something that the various states’ attorneys general should be addressing? Obviously, some of the more flaming libs among them would probably just laugh, but even some of those might be persuaded to do the right thing, if a state law has been violated.
It should be obvious that the various states would have variations in their laws, but perhaps still worth a closer look?
While not fraud per se, they should have provided IMMEDIATE refunds and/or contacts to Troy so that the customers could take delivery of the weapons they ordered through Troy.
I own weapons, and I do a LOT more than just guns and ammo. Ask anyone who goes hunting gets a lot of equipment besides that–knives, boots, camo gear, waders, camping equipment, tools, etc.
Yeah, like I needed another excuse NOT to go to Dick’s (overpriced anyway.) Give me KTP or one of the local sporting goods places. I just wish Thompson/Center was still open here…
If any of you are close to ND, come to my tiny little gunshop. I’ll keep selling any rifle, shotgun or handgun I can get to my customers. They can leave the money on the table, I’ll take a sale, and they can go belly up trying to appease the libs. Better to die on your feet a man than on your knees as a coward.
I quit going to Dick’s a few years ago when they would not sell me a duck stamp. Even took the boxes of steel shot back for a refund and told them why. They really are living up to their name.
